The New Me, miracles of modern science...

Hey there Cabbie! Happy belated Thanksgiving... (or as my other American homies seem to call it "turkey day" hehe!) This is gonna be the first Christmas I've dieted so will no doubt do what you're doing and lower the portion sizes. Glad to hear you're still weighing in the same - way to go! :) And well done with all the workouts... looking good mate! :) x

Happy post-turkey day everyone!

So let me see... even with gastric bypass surgery, its still extremely possible to overeat, if one just grazes all day... I started with bacon, eggs, cinnamon rolls, went through the nibbling on cookies process as my wife made home made oatmeal, PB, chocolate chip and pumpkin cookies. Then came turkey, sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes (made with real cream and butter), broccoli and cheese casserole, butternut squash, and of course, lots of gravy. This was then followed by pumkin pie, Dutch apple pie, strawberry Trifle, and finally by reheated leftovers and more cookies...

Yes, my portions were indeed much smaller than in previous years, but I'm fairly certain I still managed at least 4000 calories simply by virtue of the constant nibbling all day.

On the plus side. After my workout today, I was still hitting the scale at 243, which seems to be where I have plateaued for the last few weeks. I was chatting with a friend and we kinda came to the same conclusion though. Since I'm still consistently gaining strength with each workout (up on reps or weight every time), but staying the same weight, I must be recomping pretty well right now. I am definitely solidly into a 36 waist, which I have not worn since I was a late teen-early 20's. In those days I barely weighed over 200 lbs, so effectively I seem to be a bunch denser now. I'm happy with the results I'm seeing.

Workout Friday:

Squats - 5x5x205, I'll be here a bit longer. These still take everything I got.

Bench - 5x5x135, see squat note above, I'm absolutely garbage by the end of the last rep.

Inverted Rows - 3xF (9/8/7) +3 reps

Reverse crunches - 3x25, I think I'll go for 30 reps next time, then look for somthing more intense as an Ab/core exercise to replace them or augment them. They are not all that difficult anymore, so I feel like I need to up the resistance somehow.

Push ups - 3xF (12/11/10) + 3 reps

Okay, one thing I didn't mention in previous posts was that I was fooling around the other day at work. I grabbed one of the overhead sprinkler pipes, and did a chin up on it.. Yup... without even a jumpstart, pulled my way up through the 90 degree elbow bend and got my chin over the plane of the pipe. I then pulled it off again a little later. I was pretty stoked.

Cardio - 11.2 miles of spinning.

have you ever done pilates? the hundredths are amazing for the core.. grabbing an ovehead pipe and doing a chin up?? nah, not gonna perv that one. oops..did i say that??? :coolgleamA:

seriously great job!! you amaze me more and more each day with your dedication. well done mr cabbie, well done!

SO jealous of your chin ups! I hope to be able to do them again some day. I feel like I'm extra far behind on upper body strength because of breaking my arm badly last fall.

Like you, I'll get there someday!

Hey Cabbie
Happy thanksgiving, hope the family stuff went ok.

We obviously don't do thanksgiving over here, but I usually take the time to think about the things I am thankful for.

When are you off to Jamaica?(at least I think its jamaica? you're going to)

Your thanksgiving sounds lovely :) Me and Yank just ordered in huge pizzas and drank far too much--yours sounds much nicer! Hope you're having a nice weekend darling :)

Cab, I read your Thanksgiving dinner menu and may very well have gained weight in doing so.
Sounds incredible; there are no such talented cooks at my house; we had about half the food.

Also, congrats on clearly getting denser and more muscular.
I've been doing the gym thing for over 5 months now, and still cannot convince myself onto the weight machines.
Probably because they all look like you need an engineering degree to properly operate them.

Glad you enjoyed the holidays!

:iagree: I think that's why I dislike using them as well. I feel like an idiot fumbling around not knowing what I'm doing or if I'm doing it wrong or what!

Ahaha, i apologise for the dirty humour, but i thought the conversation had not yet drifted from the ben wa balls and these last two comments made me laugh!!

I actually ventured on to a couple of machines last night for the very first time, since I was all by myself. I figured out (sorta) what about 2/3 of the random knobs and levers did before calling it quits. Way too many adjustments to be made for my liking!

Maybe I might start some kind of thread about beginning weight routines, but I'm no expert. I know what seems to work for me. I tend to like free weights and compound lifts (as in lifts that work more than one muscle group at a time), and the routine I do is pretty simple really, although the form is important to get right. I used to use the machines, and they do good things too, but I tend to stay away from them now.

Speaking of which, I did a "B" workout today.

Seated leg press - 5x5x355 (+5lbs)

Overhead press - 5x5x85

Rack Pulls - 2x5x315

Lat pulldowns - 3xFX195 (+5lbs) 8/7/6

Planks - 3x60 sec (+5sec) this is a new P/B

Cardio - 25 minutes, HIIT (including warmup and cooldown) peak H/R upper 158-160 each interval.

So, somehow I am keeping up with the workouts this week. I hope this week does not drag out too much, but mentally I think I'm already in Jamaica. I'll be leaving saturday morning for a week. I will miss people here and think of you often...

Yesterday was strictly cardio, 15.9 miles of spinning, kept my H/R around 140ish.

It's not going to be so much fun here next week with both you and Flumes absent but have a great time. We can have all our conversations about bras, periods, menopause and all the other girlie things while we are a women only zone. :D
Don't stress about weight while you are there just enjoy yourself and repair any damage when you get back. You'll automatically make better choices than you used to anyway.

Yay have a great time away :)

See you when you get back with that great all over tan

:D yup... the best kind IMO

Listen, Ecky... First off, Moonbeamish can attest to the fact that I have never been squeamish about any of that kind of stuff to begin with, seein' as how she was my g/f back when we was jus' teenagers an stuff, she knows me pretty well. Add to that I am the married father of 2 adult daughters and work the night shift. How many times you figure I got a call at 6:00 am asking me to pick up pads or tampons on the way home from work?

What a sweetie doing that for them! My hubby made it ABUNDANTLY clear before we married that he would NEVER buy that sort of thing, so don't even bother asking! LOL!

Does it bother your wife at all that you are friendly with your old girlfriend? I wouldn't say my hubby is friendly with many of his, but he'll talk to them. And I'm ok with that, EXCEPT for one. I can't stand the woman and want to rip her face off any time she goes near what's mine! Probably because for the longest time every time we'd run into her she always asked who I was. It seemed to me that she was purposely forgetting I was his wife! She even called our house a few times and when I answered she gave me the third degree asking who I was and if I was his new girlfriend.

It wasn't until the last 5 years or so that I realized that the woman has done WAY too many drugs and spent most of her adult life in a drunken stupor and has no brain cells left with which to remember me.

I still hate her though. :)

Aww Cabbie, what a good husband/father! I can say with confidence that in my 12 or so years of dealing with it, I can't remember ever asking anyone besides my mother to buy tampons for me! Boyfriend would fight me if I did, that's for sure!

LOL never thought for one minute that you'd get squimish Cabby but thought that it might bore you ;)
My son used to send me to buy condoms for him but I drew the line at getting special flavours and colours!!! and my husband and dad never had a problem buying tampons or contraceptive pills for us.

Tig, let me put it to you this way... Our best friends that we get together with practically every weekend are my ex-wife and her husband. The guy my wife was seeing right before we got together (okay, so like technically when we first started sleeping with each other - they were still living together), has been a friend of mine ever since.

Go figure...

Ecky, that one is funny! No flavored ones though? That's where you draw the line? I think about the only time I ever got squeamish with anything like that in my house was when there was a conversation between my wife and daughters regarding... "grooming habits" down below and some new shaving cream called "Coochy" showed up in the house... I got over it and laughed pretty quick but it was a little surreal at first.

mr cabs and i will always have a special place for each other, he was my first love after all. and i can support the fact that he is a perve, well at least from back then!! a good perve though!! but you must realize we are many many miles apart.

i'm sad for the grief that ex g/f has put you through. sounds like she has had a sad life. rise above and don't let her get to you. you have so many accomplishments to be proud of!! flaunt it baby, flaunt it!! hugs
