The Motorcycle Diary

so tell me, what exactly does no explode do for you?.

Heh, here's a link with a bit more info and some positive and negative reviews. I don't use it exactly as it's intended because I can't imagine taking this stuff every day. Basically it gives me a ton of energy, makes me REALLY want to workout, and makes me feel like I should be in the garage bench pressing my car.

It can't be very good for you, especially in the long run. Even the manufacturer recommends taking 4 weeks off for every 8 weeks on. But for me, I just use it when I feel like I need an extra boost... and boy do I get it. RAWR!!!

but i'm thinking that you two might be too rational for that...ie think its a load of baloney!! :D

lol, my friends often call me a buzz kill because I object to their "feel good" perspective on things like religion, love, humanity, etc. I'm a realist and agnostic to a fault in the larger sense of what agnosticism encompasses - not just in terms of religious perspective.

Ever read any Alan Watts? I'm totally "Prickles" and I'm guessing you're "Goo." If you have no idea what I'm talking about check out this old Alan Watts audio tape set to animation by the South Park guys. Pretty funny.

Great day yesterday. I went shopping, got some paperwork out of the way, did another 30 min on the bike followed by 15 min of intense heavy bag and crunches, and ended the night by meeting up with a bunch of friends to play poker. The late night party was a lot of fun, and despite there being piles and piles of great looking food and booze available I managed to stick within my calorie range for the day.

I was hoping to get to the park today for another hike, but unfortunately the weather isn't cooperating. I'll be hitting my bike and my weights again today I suppose.

HA - I went out last night.Havent been out on a Fri/Sat night in forever...I just cant do it with working the nights and being a single mommy, sleep is sadly just more important.

We went for dinner and bowling.Bowling was a fundraiser were our friend/boss and her mom volunteer at. It was fun.Actually felt good o get out for a bit and without kids.

But I enjoyed myself, LOL, I had 2 beers there, and a vodka/coke at the resturant.I also had some chips, HEH!

Good for you for sticking wihtin your cals:D!

heh, I wasn't as good as I made it sound. I had several glasses of wine and a vodka tonic.. I just happend to budget for them :)

What really saved me was bringing some grapes and carrots to snack on at the party rather than all the junk food they had available.

HEH - were ya looked at funny:coolgleamA:that is brave of you:coolgleamA:

lol, no, but only because it was a work party and everyone there knows that I'm working hard on being fitness oriented. They see me everyday in our facility's kitchen making my own meals.

That being said, I have felt really bad from time to time at these parties when someone takes my vegetarianism into consideration and makes a vegetarian dish that I still have to decline (or sometimes I just eat a little).

True enough but they should talk to you abt it first instead of jsut assuming, i know the thought is there and that is what is important but vegetarian is very broad:D

I just had another awesome workout. I put together a good 2x/week full body lifting program to get myself back into good resistance training condition. I tried to pick up where I left off like a year ago and quickly realized that was a bad idea. I need to give my ligaments, tendons, and joint muscles time to get with the program to avoid injury and unnecessary grief. I've been pretty sedentary for the past year after all. At any rate, here's my starter program. Let me know what you think...

In the following order...
- Squats
- Leg Extensions
- Lying Leg Curls
- Lat Pull Downs
- Bench Press
- Chest Flys
- Triceps Pull downs
- Biceps Curls
- Military Press
- Crunches

Whew, thought I was going to puke in the middle of this one but I managed to hold it down. Btw, here are a few pics of my home gym. I mean honestly, do I have any excuse not to work out? No, no I don't.

A note on my nutritional intake. I read some pretty damning articles on the long term effects of soy protein intake. Being a vegetarian a pretty hefty amount of my protein comes from soy. I have 8 oz of soy milk before I leave the house in the morning, and other 8oz combined in my pre and post-workout drinks. And that’s not to mention all of the faux meat products I eat that are made from soy! BAH!

Oh well, I'm going to have to reexamine my diet to limit my soy intake. I already use whey protein, and I think I’m going to pick up some cage-free eggs tomorrow so that I can add egg white protein into my diet as well. I know that whey and egg whites are two of the fastest absorbing proteins you can find.

but vegetarian is very broad:D

So true. We vegetarians are a funny bunch... and quite elitist within our own ranks it seems.

Some people call themselves vegetarians and still eat fish (which makes no sense to me), and then there are folks who won't consider you a vegetarian if you eat eggs or dairy products, and still others who won't consider you a vegetarian if you wear a leather belt. With the exception of someone who still eats meat (like chicken or fish) and still calls themselves a vegetarian, I try not to get involved in the in-fighting. lol

Weigh-in day today and I'm down another 5lb since my last weigh-in. Woah!
That puts me at 302 pounds, just 3 pounds away from getting out of the damn 300's.

i told you you were going to catch up to me! i don't know what's up with me, but its driving me insane that i am not dropping like i used too!

Thanks much Cinderelly!

Hey man, you haven't weighed in yet this week and may be a lot lower than you think, lol. ;) Besides, I count calories every day so perhaps I have a bit of an advantage. :D

So yeah, my great day of lifting yesterday got me thinking about nutrition and I spent much of today and last night researching all sorts of crazy information on weight loss and muscle gain. As the day progressed I found myself overly focused on resistance training, thinking about drastically changing my food intake, reconsidering my supplements and all that jazz.

Then this evening I found myself stressing over what I was going to eat for dinner, and I realized that I need to chill out and take these lifestyle changes one step at a time. Fat loss is the most important task ahead of me at the moment by a huge margin and I need to focus on that for a long while. Resistance training will continue to play a part, of course, but I’m not going to get caught up in the mind numbing amount of nutritional and fitness information out there until I find myself in a position where I can afford to experiment.

It's been a great week. I've really been feeling "up" and in good spirits which makes exercising and controlling my eating very easy.

Speaking of which, I realized something today. With the exception of that one party where I pigged out and drank too much (and the following day) I've pretty much been sticking to my dietary plan completely since the end of January. Honestly, I haven't even had so much as a single piece of candy, cookie, potato chip, or cracker (again, with the exception of those two days), and to the best of my knowledge I've only gone over the calorie range I set for myself twice!

I'm sure it sounds like I'm being too strict with myself but I really don't want to eat junk food or candy anymore anyway, so I don't feel like I'm denying myself anything at all. My meals have all been very healthy for the most part with essentially zero bad fats and a good mix of everything else. I'm 100% off refined sugars, I'm no longer drinking diet soda, no white flours, I’m having much less alcohol and I'm feeling f-ing fantastic most of the time.

Here’s hoping the rest of you are feeling as good ass me! Oh, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!:troll: <-- because he has green hair

oh yes i'm gooey all the way baby!! you old prickly thing you...

apparently i'm disgustingly vague too hahaha but isn't it a bit dreary to have your feet firmly on the ground all the time??? i'd much rather have my head in the clouds...now if i was an out & out dippy hippy chick...i would guess you were a very practical, grounded earth sign too...but of course i'm not so i won't!!

anyway i would say that the prickles vs goo thing...comes back (sort of...) to what i was saying about us needing to learn 'stuff' (no i don't know what exactly i'm nebulous remember :Angel_anim:) from each other...so maybe i could (possibly) do with a bit more practicality in my life ie prickly goo...& ppl of your ilk need us gooey types to bring out your less prickly side ie gooey prickles...now don't tell me that doesn't make a teeny tiny bit of sense (ok gooey 'sense' :D)

edit...

btw just listening to george harrison's album 'all things must pass'...& thought how fitting that was re convo...thats b/c i think everything meant/has meaning...while you i guess would think NOT!! LOL

The title and lyrics of the song probably come from the last words of Buddah: "All composite things pass away. Strive for your own liberation with diligence" (often shortened to "All things must pass away".)

a jump about/feel good tune even for those of a prickly persuasion surely??!

love this!! no not in a happy clappy bible bashing way LOL...i don't follow a specific religion...i'm open to all (like a 7/11) so my name will be down at the pearly gates whoever is on the door so to speak...:) but this track does get quite hypnotic...you can just imagine the hare krishna devotees twirling about in their orange robes...but robes don't really go with heels though so i won't be!!

i noticed there are clips on youtube about alan watts on nothingness...& buddhism too. oooooh i could ramble about those topics all day but i won't...i promise!!!

Yes, I suppose you made some sense there ;) Just don't expect to find me trying to heal myself with crystals, search for ghosts, open my heart chakra, check my horoscope or worship a "god." I'm not that gooey! lol

Nice to see ya back, Amanda.

Yeah, Alan Watts was pretty major influence in terms of introducing Eastern philosophies and religions to a Western audience.
