The long and winding road hurts my fat feet

I've done this..............wow a long time ago. And I have to say out of everything I did over the years to lose the weight (my ticker is misleading i've lost well over 50 pds at this point) BFL taught me a few things that has stuck with me over time.

Here's the negatives. I honestly do not feel it is enough cardio. I struggled to lose weight on BFL until I added much more cardio then he recommends. And I wasn't the only one who felt like that either, I've met a lot of BFLer's who have had the same problem. I can't remember if men had as many problems with that as women though. So it may be a non-issue for you. Just be careful the newer bikes (which he uses an old bike which is more like a spinning cycle) are SO easy on people its tough to do heart healthy cardio on it. If you go to a gym go use a spinning cycle. Just make sure to REALLY crank it.

The diet is actually pretty incredible. Considering he started using that formula well over seven years ago. Its proven itself since then. Doctors will tell you its better to eat mini small meals. I've even read recently its good to keep off your strict diet for 1/5th of your diet. Which is what he recommended way before anyone else (as you know). I carried his diet ideas with me when I gave up BFL. I can't eat that much i'd explode but I did realize about every saturday I get nothing short of starved. So I go and have something bad usually for me its a fattening Mexican meal. And what do you know I have usually lost weight by Monday.

If you can maintain the stamina needed to get through this program it really can be an incredible amazing experience. It certianly will not hurt you. And will probably learn loads from doing it. GOOD LUCK!!

Yeah, I did one cycle myself, and ended up losing about 5% bf, but not losing hardly any weight. I have changed it so it is 5 cardios and only one weight training for your very cited reasons..that and I am trying to do a triathlon.

Good luck FGT--That sounds like a heckuva program. If you can stick with it, it sounds like a good way to get fast results.

yeegads confusing.
Go for it if thats what works for you :)

o/~ 1 carb, 1 protein keep moooving ..

Well, I had to watch Luke (my 2 year son) last night because my wife had some kind of pampered tupperware candles party type thing, so I ended up jogging instead of doing what was schedueled. It was ok. I just swapped Thursday and Monday. I have to be better on the diet. Tonight, weight training, and some cardio machines. When I only weight train lower body I am going to do ellipticals or arc trainers on those nights. 1 night down, 71 to go.

Ok, tonight I did the arc trainer- a sweet machine- for 20 minutes.

This was after my lower body weight training, making those knee and ankle joints nice and strong.

I will be sore tommorow.

2 down, 70 to go.

First, I am not that lucky.

Secondly, Yes, he has a million times the energy I do. He could do an ironman right now.

I wish I had have of my daughter's energy...I think I'm going to put my pedometer on her tomorrow, just to see...:D

Ohhh...those naughty lingerie parties are FUN!

Maybe you wife needs to hostess one - then she gets free stuff!

Ok, today I present you with my nugget of knowlodge. Just thought I would pass along this bit of info that I have learned for myself in my triathlon training.

Ok class, today we will learn about heart rates. First of all, let me just say that my heart rate monitor was the best $20 fitness investment I have ever made. They are $20 on ebay all the time. I have a Bell F18. Good investment. You can also firgure these things out by calculating your beats over a 10 second span and then mulitplying by 6. Anyway on Monday, I did a max heart rate test. This works by warming up for about 10 minutes, and then doing an all out full force workout for 20 minutes, to the point where you are exhausted at the end of the workout. Then you take your average heart rate over that time- mine was 168 bpm- and divide that number by .9, and when you divide by a number smaller than 1, it gives you a larger number, so I ended up with a max heart rate of about 185. Then I wore my heart rate monitor to bed, and while laying there watching TV, I got a resting heart rate of about 58. Ok, so now I know my range. Next I went to fitzones.com and they have a calculator for each zone for my heart rate and the zones are as follows:

Zone 1- Warm up- about 50- 60% of you max heart rate. Good for a warm up.

Zone 2- Fitness zone- best for fat burning- about 60-70 percent of your max.

Zone 3- Aerobic zone- cardio endurance training zone- the zone I try for. 70-80% of the MHR.

Zone 4- Performance zone- this is when your body makes more lactate then it can get rid of. You start cramping and burning- exhaustion sets in quickly. People can train in the zone for as little as a minutes all the way up to 2 hours for studs like me...lol. No, I mean studs like Lance Armstrong- he actually can go at this zone indefinitely...what a stud. Not that I am gay or anything but that Lance Armstrong....anyway....lol this zone is 80-90% of the max.

Zone 5- Redline / heart attack stroke mode- not really but this is hardcore, people can only so this for like moments.

Ok...so zone 2 burns fat the most effieciently, but zone 3 burns fat well, and grows the heart and lungs. Zone 4 burns a lot of calories, but mostly depletes the glycogene in the blood, and the fat stays in place. THis all has to do with how much oxygen is required for metabolise fat. If theres not enough air coming it, then fat stays and carbs get burnt. This is why runners "carbo load' before a race.

Now, if you burn up your carbs while working out, like in zones 3 and 4, then fat gets used up to replace them, so its not bad to use those for a fat burn.

Also, another easier way to calculate Max HR is 220-age=mhr, but its not real accurate- especaily for overweight or sedintary people. You can go to fitzones.com to calculate your zones if you know your RHR and MHR. For me, I need to stay between 147-160 to stay where I want to be.

mapmyrun.com is a great website for people who either run or walk outdoors. It uses google maps to calculate distances. Easy to use as well.

Ok, so tonights workout-

Swam for 15 minutes

Ran for 20

Bonus: Cycled for 10 minutes.

I met a really great 77 year old guy at the rec center. Hes there every day and I see, but hes a very cool guy. He writing a book about the segragation for churches and colleges amongst religion and race...etc.

He was a physics prof for his career. Neat guy. Thing is he could probably beat me in a mile run.

Calories burnt- according to my heart rate monitor - 1040. Sweet action.

3 down, 69 to go.

Great info on the heart rate FGT :)

As for the wife, well, maybe she *needs* to host a party, then she could create a different screen name FGTSWILDWOMAN :D

How do you burn that many calories.... I do a mile and 1/2 on the elliptical (about 30 minutes) and it's only 250 calories. 1000 calories...holy crow, 4 of those workouts and you've lost a pound!

Please tell me how to get that many calories burnt!
