The long and winding road hurts my fat feet

Wow! That's impressive that you plan to do triathalons next summer.

Glad you got a bike. Hopefully you'll get plenty of rides in before it gets too cold.

Just enjoyed reading your diary and wanted to say hi. So many people here are inspirational and you are one of them.

Triathalons--pretty impressive and training for them is great way to stay in shape. What I'd like to do when I get under 250 again is to walk the Appalaichan Trail one summer.

I am just back from a 20 mile bike ride. What a blast! I went with a much thinner, personal trainer, and kept up with him the whole time. Either bikes are the great equalizer or I am in better shape than I thought.

After the ride, my legs were a little jello-y but I think I could have ran about 5 k if I had to, so thats a good sign that I will meet my Tri- goal.

Right now my biggest obstactle on the fitness side is my face. Sounds weird I know, but basically I went swimming on Tuesday, and they had "shocked" the pool on Monday, so I got some kind of chlorine burn/ rash on my face. It feels like hives, but itches and burns like a sunburn. It was hurting pretty bad on the bike trip after I started sweating. This is a rerun for some. Sorry.

On the diet side, I eat out too much. Tonight I ate out, and got a salad. The salad had 200 calories...however I forgot to get low cal dressing...so there was 300 cals. If I ate at home all the time, I would drop weight fast.

Ahh i have bad skin and get rashes often on the face, i know the feeling
Nothing is worse than having a rash and then sweating into it to make it sting!

Good on you with the biking!

You are right about not eating at home!! I used to get take out, or do the drive through thing so much before I changed to this way of eating. You don't realize the cals you are eating.

No joke! Its like "hey spark says I have 1000 cals left....hmmm...maybe some pizza..."

A short while later:

"what do you mean I ate 3000 cal of pizza in 4 slices?>??!!!??!"

Hey FGT,
It's great to have you as a fellow Vampire! Are you drinking your water?
:D

Teriffic job on the bike ride and keeping up with the trainer!

So after having an incredible weekend, this week has sucked. Its a chain reaction really. Saturday I had to go to a parade and festival all day, and typically Saturday is clean the house/do laundry/ grocery shop day. None of that got done. Not a problem, usually. We just go to church and then get that stuff done if we haven't yet on Sunday. Well not this weekend. I went to Fort Wayne to see my folks. We were just going to go to church with them, and maybe dinner...ended up spending all day there. Long story short, I was really active this weekend, including a 20 mile bike ride Friday, and about another oh, say 10 on Saturday around the festival. Sunday played a lot of football.

Now, Monday comes, and I typically for lunch eat like lean cuisine or healthy choice TV dinners. They aren't too bad for you, fill you up...etc.

I have none of those at home, because I missed grocery day! So its been like fast food and garbage so far this week....yeah and about a thousand calories of donuts. Darned vending machines and their convenience.

Now as far as the workouts go....yeah....

I have been spending my evenings trying to get caught up on the house chores. Good grief...snowball effect.

Anyway I was down 6 pounds Monday morning from Friday morning....and today its like break even. Argh. I am drinking a lot of liquids...but I won't reveal what kind of liquids they are.

I'm turning into Homer Simpson, when I read donuts I zoned everything else out for a few seconds thinking...mmmmmm.....donuts....

I've to got to go cake shopping tomorrow for my cousin's baby shower... at the donut bank.

donuts are NOT my friend, donuts are NOT my friend, donuts are NOT my friend, donuts are NOT my friend...

Diet soda. lots of it.

yeah, sure....... diet soda, what ever!!!! ( just kiddin) keep up the good work and i hear ya on the house chores and laundry thing, it never ends at my house and i never feel caught up no matter what, but Kudos on the exercise, it lessens the donut thing;) :D

FGT,

sounds like you're doing a lot better than I am lately. I've been in a bit of a funk but plan on picking myself up again. Don't let a bad week frustrate you... just dust yourself off and get back in the saddle ;)

Ok, I dont know you guys are familiar with Body for Life, but its a big time weight training program, and people honestly change their bodies in 12 weeks. They go from Chris Farley to Vin Diesel in 12 weeks basically. Its hardcore, very strict, and time consuming, but you see really fast results. People lose between 40-50 pounds of fat when they are really obese. Its amazing honestly. bodyforlife.com to see some of the before and afters . I did it, and lost some weight, but bulked up muscle like crazy. So that said, I have created my own endurance sport body for life type program, that I am starting today. Here is my workout scheduele.

I had to do it as a pic...because I couldnt get me formatting to stay.

Here is what I am allowed to eat.

6 times a day I will eat a "meal" A meal is one protien, and one carb. at least 2 of these meals i must include at least one veggie serving. Before a workout I must eat a meal, but if it is a cardio workout, the meal is 2 carbs, no protien. As a recovery meal after cardio, I will do the same. After weight traing (wt-l = lower body weight training wt- whole- whole body wt) I will drink a recovery shake of whey protien. The foods I am allowed to eat are the following:

Proteins:
Chicken breast
Turkey breast
Lean ground turkey
Swordfish
Orange roughy
Haddock
Salmon
Tuna
Crab
Lobster
Shrimp
Top round steak
Top sirloin steak
Lean ground beef
Buffalo
Lean ham
Egg whites or substitutes
Trout
Low-fat cottage cheese
Wild-game meat

Carbs:
Baked potato
Sweet potato
Yams
Squash
Pumpkin
Steamed brown rice
Steamed wild rice
Pasta
Oatmeal
Barley
Beans
Kidney beans
Corn
Strawberries
Melon
Apple
Orange
Fat-free yogurt
Whole-wheat bread
High-fiber cereal
Rice cake
Popcorn
Tortilla
Whole grains

veggies- Broccoli
Asparagus
Lettuce
Carrots
Cauliflower
Green beans
Green peppers
Mushrooms
Spinach
Tomato
Peas
Brussels sprouts
Artichoke
Cabbage
Celery
Zucchini
Cucumber

fats-

Sunflower seeds
Pumpkin seeds
Cold-water fish
Natural peanut butter
Low-fat cheese
Low-fat salad dressing
Low-sodium nuts

A portion of a protien and a carb isnt much food. Half a tuna salad sandwich is a "meal"

I am making myself the guinea pig for this so it could be some interesting reading for the next 12 weeks.

I got something in the mail from them a few weeks ago..;. and haven't done much about it - i think i had signed up on their site... the eating 5-6 times a day is rough.... you really have to completely change your mindset about meals... good luck with it...

I've done this..............wow a long time ago. And I have to say out of everything I did over the years to lose the weight (my ticker is misleading i've lost well over 50 pds at this point) BFL taught me a few things that has stuck with me over time.

Here's the negatives. I honestly do not feel it is enough cardio. I struggled to lose weight on BFL until I added much more cardio then he recommends. And I wasn't the only one who felt like that either, I've met a lot of BFLer's who have had the same problem. I can't remember if men had as many problems with that as women though. So it may be a non-issue for you. Just be careful the newer bikes (which he uses an old bike which is more like a spinning cycle) are SO easy on people its tough to do heart healthy cardio on it. If you go to a gym go use a spinning cycle. Just make sure to REALLY crank it.

The diet is actually pretty incredible. Considering he started using that formula well over seven years ago. Its proven itself since then. Doctors will tell you its better to eat mini small meals. I've even read recently its good to keep off your strict diet for 1/5th of your diet. Which is what he recommended way before anyone else (as you know). I carried his diet ideas with me when I gave up BFL. I can't eat that much i'd explode but I did realize about every saturday I get nothing short of starved. So I go and have something bad usually for me its a fattening Mexican meal. And what do you know I have usually lost weight by Monday.

If you can maintain the stamina needed to get through this program it really can be an incredible amazing experience. It certianly will not hurt you. And will probably learn loads from doing it. GOOD LUCK!!
