Hi Tri Guy--
Just wanted you to know that you are an inspiration to me. I have lost most of the weight I want to lose, and I have severe asthma. I'm beginning to think I could try to go for a triathalon type of activity if I worked hard enough to get in to shape. I walk about an hour to an hour and a half a day, but am lousy about toning exercises. You and others are spurring me on!!
 
I just skipped through your diary, and learned about your fight with the nail gun. uh..... ow? No wonder you say you jog slow. *big grin* :p
 
Last night I did whole body strength training, but low intensity- I am mostly just trying to strengthen my joints.

After the workout I still had some in the tank, so I did ellipticals for 20 minutes.

7 down, 64 to go.
 
Tonight I am scedueled for biking for 35 minutes. However, Its raining and I like to avoid sationary bike. They are soooo boring. I think I am going to swim instead. Its the weakest of my tri legs, and its awesome excercise.

I forgot to post this- my wife went to the gym with me on Monday. How cool is that? The bad news is Mondays I am at the gym for about an hour, and she got really bored. So whether or not she comes back is yet to be seen. I was pretty excited she went though.

My diet is horrible. I need extra calories for my increased workouts, in order to keep my body burning extra fat at a nice rate, but I have over done it. I need to eat a fair amount of carbs too, doing the endurance type stuff. Well, I have found that I am a total carb addict. I eat a sandwich, and then my stomach says.."That was good, now give us donuts!!!!"

I usually deny it, but still.
 
OK - donuts don't really count as carbs.
I don't think they count as food either.

There's nothing nutritionally sound in donuts AT ALL!

Either way, it is hard getting the calories up where they should be with all this exercising isn't it? It boggles my mind!
 
they should make donut flavored water..lol. I'd be all over that!! Keep up the great work Tri - youre very inspiring!!

glad to hear your working on the swim. Running is where I need my improvement, but the way things have been going, next year's trilon should be cake!

Keep up the great work, and don't beat yourself up over a bad day on the calorie intake.... True, you messed up and we're all shocked beyond belief, but we forgive ya!
 
Well, I have been planning a camping trip with my best pal from childhood for about 2 months now. I have aquired wood, cleaned all my gear, arranged for my son to go to my mom's, booked the campground, invited a couple of other guys, and whatever else. The whole trip is based on the idea that my wife is going to be out of town (by the way, she rescheduled her trip to accomadate my friend's availability). So anyway, being a pretty boring married guy I REALLY was looking foward to drinking some carbs and getting away with the guys.



I check my voicemail, and its my friend, Jed. He says "Ive got a wedding to go to that weekend, sorry bro, no can make it. Guess I should get a calender huh? Laugh Laugh"

Not funny.

This is not the first time he has done this to me.

Hes single, works a very flexible job, and is able to be very impulsive. Hes in a totally different place in life than I am.

SO, I call him up, and say "Hey man, I gotta say something this time. Youve burnt me too many other times. You are screwing up, me, my son, my parents, my wife, her friend shes going away with, the campground, all because you and your smirky laugh can't be responsible. I like you man, youre my best friend, we have fun together, but dont ever do this to me again. Your in a different place than I am, and I understand that, but if we're gonna be friends you've gotta respect that!"

Freaking A man.

Old Joel would eat to resolve this. New Joel will just work the crap out. I'm off to swim.

As an avid camper, I know how much goes into the planning - not to mention all the extra issues with your wife, son, etc. How utterly frustrating and RUDE of him and AWESOME of you to tell him what you think!

Not to mention - the old Joel would eat - the New Joel swims - that is a great testament to how far you've come!
 
ooo.. I heart new Joel.. congrats on working the frustrations out some other way than eating. Sorry your friend is so flakey - I have one just like him. She ditches me for the new flavor of the month, doesn't call, then all of the sudden is my best friend again and wondering why I'm not calling & dropping everything to meet her for coffee.. pffft some people just don't get it.

I thought about going this weekend with my wife and son, but its supposed to get pretty cold for a little guy.

I swam for 30 minutes tonight, and really improved my techneque however you spell it. I went from swimming 50 meters in 1:45 to 1:05. So I nearly double my efficiency. It was like everything clicked tonight.

I'm pretty much over the camping thing. I mean I know he has no hard feelings for me or anything, but its like he doesn't think enough of anyone else to try and keep his scheduele straight. How hard is it to write down "Oct 14- Wedding" on the calender. Then I can call, and he can say- "No good- lets do the 20th...." and everything is solved. He grew up in Thailand, and his parents were missionaries. They don't have the frantic American thing over there, so I will give him that.

My feelings went from frustration and depression to like "dang, I'm gonna have a boring weekend"

ND is on a bi week that weekend too. Geesh.
 
Ran 5 k tonight. Did it in about 40 minutes. Not bad for a guy on the closer side to 300 than 200.

Working ones butt off, and seeing how few calories it burns makes you want to, you know, not eat nutrional equivalent of feces.
