The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

329.0 this morning which heralds in the 320s and bumps me past the 20 pounds lost mark (-20.2). -16 for the contest. 2 servings of veggies with breakfast. I also finally went down another inch on the belly. I've lost -5" total with >15" to go.

I'm 40% to the new bike by weight and 50% there by the tape.

Congrats on the multiple milestone breakage. Going from the 330s to the 320s was an odd one for me because it just seemed like so much less: like one was close to 350 and the other was close to 300.

Keep up the good work, maybe I can hire you to come work on my parents' yard. The next time I catch my dad (70 years old now) out there in 98 degree heat trimming branches, I'm going to strangle him. It's not like we're running at a shortage of cheap landscapers down here. I'm going to wait until it's closer to summer to bug him about it.

That's a huge milestone, congratulations! I've only been measuring my losses by weight, but maybe I should take measurements too. Sometimes the changes are not so much in weight, but the way things are shifting.... thanks for the idea.

Congrats on the milestone! Thats awesome!

EEEK you just reminded me I didn't do my monthly measurements!!! I'm off to do it right now!

Congrats and keep it up!

Thanks everybody!

I just finished several hours of trying to get a huge dead pine on the ground. I cut it and got it to fall the direction I wanted (away from the carport), but it immediatly snagged in two live pine saplings. I was hoping it would miss/crash through them, but no such luck. It is currently trussed up with 2 come alongs, 100' of heavy chain and a tow strap. It's too steep and there are too many things under tension for another cut to be attempted, so I just secured it to where it can only fall away from the carport and that's all I can do.

It is in a part of the woods where there won't be anyone walking under it, but this isn't how I wanted things to go.

I had planned on cutting up firewood after I got this tree down, but instead I am worn out with a busted knuckle and a few blisters. Oh well time to get cleaned up and head to town for an evening of fun and excitement. That's a joke "town" is a craphole with nothing to do. We will go to Target, a bad coffee shop, and a bad book store and pine (pun intended) for the days when we lived somewhere with culture and progress.

You live in a craphole too? I have to drive 45 minutes to a Target....and pretty much everything else but the grocery store..haha!

Same drive time here (going 70mph). That's where my office is too. The small town closest has a couple gas stations and a walmart. It's only 15 minutes away.

According to Google Earth, I live 810.8 yards from the nearest Target. During rush hour that's also about a 45 minute drive.

Good job Quercus! You're doing such a good job and I know that you'll reach your goal weight, and maybe even more! :D Keep us posted and congratulations on the weight loss so far!

Hey...you are doing brilliant - happy for your milestone!!
& loving the bike!! :) motivation!

Hope you have a great night out in town :D

Thanks everybody! I didn't weigh myself today. I've had a pretty productive day. I spent most of it with the chainsaw. i finally got the big dead pine safely on the ground and I cut down four others. Two small and two around 100 feet tall. I still haven't gotten around to cuttin g dead trees for firewood as all of these were pine. All of the dead ones that could potentially hit the house, carport or me where I generally walk through the woods are gone. That means next time I'll be bringing back firewood.

I also installed an ice maker today which was more hassle than I expected. I just finished hunting for my supper, but I came up empty handed. I saw a couple armadillos and heard a raccoon, but no rabbits which is what I was hoping to have for dinner. I always enjoy being out in the woods whether I'm hunting or not, but a frozen turkey burger patty is a poor substitute for fresh wild rabbit.

In case anyone is curious:

You could eat an armadillo. during the great depression they called them "Hover hogs" and people still eat them in mexico as well as Central and South America. The also eat them occasionally in south Texas, but this is mostly by people of Mexican descent. I'd try it as I enjoy trying all sorts of food, but they are the only non-humans to carry leprocy, and even if the chance is slight of contracting it, I won't take the chance.

I've eaten raccoon once and properly prepared they are edible, but I'd rather have the turkey burger.

Hey, I enjoyed reading about your hunting. Very interesting and educational.
What do you usually catch when you hunt? Rabbits? How often do you hunt?
I really don't know much about these things. I now hunting is big here.

I most often hunt deer, but there is a season that ended last month. I did not get a deer this year, although I tried quite a bit. There is a season for squirrel which is over as well. There is no season for rabbits and feral hogs.

My father and I have built a trap for feral hogs on his property as they are introduced pests. They are good to eat as long as they aren't too big. I was going to help my Father run the trap this weekend, but we didn't catch any. It's basically a small coral with a trap gate that holds hogs while still allowing more to get in.

I only shoot animals that I eat and I only shoot animals from sustainable populations. It's an ecologically sound source of meat and healthier than commercial meat.

No weigh in again this morning. I'm having some digestive issues that I know is making my weight increase. I'm trying to remedy the problem through my diet, but since this is day three if things don't resolve by this evening I will resort to medicine.

I'll weigh in tomorrow either way.

I've eaten my fruits and vegetables every day and gotten in my full hour of exercise too. I went over on calories on Saturday (few hundred), but was on yesterday. I will come in under calories today to make up for Saturday.

There's a lot of javelina (collared peccary) hunting down here, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of javelina eating. Now they can be a bit of a pest (but only when some nitwit feeds them) so that's probably why, but apparently they don't taste very good. Weird looking things.

We don't have Javies, but I sometimes work in areas with them. They are a native species unlike the hogs we have. I don't know if they eat them in south TX or not, but they hunt them. They are pretty small compared to feral hogs. Here are some javi and hog tusks from the field.

The biggest are about 4 inches long.

On today's installment of No, Probably Not.: Don't you hate when someone corrects you one how you pronounce a Latin genus and species? It's a dead language so there is no "correct" pronunciation. That's why your professor pronounced it differently than mine.
