The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

That BBQ buffet description you did on my thread was really funny. But I cringed a bit because it hit soooo close to how the old me operated.

Get yourself healthy dude. Have you considered physical therapy? My wife is a physical therapist. I never tell her when my back hurts because she will just say "if you would do your back exercises like I taught you, you would not have a problem". This of course is correct, but she seems to enjoy saying it a little too much.

Vee I hope so!

Brawny I am hoping that whatever the issue is that it can be handled with PT. I've been doing some basic exercises intermittently with some effect, but what exercises I do is dependent on what is wrong. I may ask you to run the PT exercises past the Mrs. to see if she agrees if you don't mind.

10.5 hours in the field today + a 5K walk/run
53:39
145 bpm avg.
max 164 bpm
mile 1 16:39
mile 2 16:59
mile 3 18:14 Hit a wall

I felt really good the first 2 miles which was surprising, but mile 3 made up for it.

My first emoon. Nice!

Really tough day today. About 11 hrs with lots of machete work and hiking around. I should have left it at that, but I wanted to run.

I ran for 25 minutes with little walking. I forgot to charge my gps watch, but I was wore out so it sucked. Oh well I tried and got some running in.

Sounds like you get a lot of build in exercise working already.
Very good with the running you impress me, never get sore joints? I am affraid to try, just jog 100-200 meters now and then.

I found that once you start running you want to run more and more.
So you try to get your runs in on the weirdest moments, like after a tough day, or really early in the morning.

But it feels so damn good, to run!

Thanks Brawny! I'll be finding stuff out next week hopefully.

Clarissa it does beat on me a bit at times, but you can do it. My recommendation is to get a heart rate monitor. If you get one that has a chest strap and can set alarms at set heart rates you can set the alarms to keep your heart in the aerobic zone. That way no matter what your fitness level you can workout at the appropriate level and it doesn't need adjustments. At first you might have to walk, but to keep the same average HR you'll have to go faster each time until you are running. I started out mostly walking and now I run way more than I walk now even though I have been held up with back pain.

Guideon I agree completely. What I need is to know when to push myself to improve or when it is too much and counterproductive. I know I can run after the toughest field day eventually, but I can't expect to start out doing it.

Thanks Mandy, I'm not too worried about it. I may just need to rest today or hit the spin bike becauseI have a lot of pain in my leg and back today. I'm confident that it is from the field and not the running, but my body is telling me to take a break.

I got a good night's sleep last night, but I fell like I didn't sleep. I'm exhausted today and I may have a rest day. I've gained 6 pounds since starting my medications. Maybe it willl settle and I'll start going in the right direction, but since I really need both of the medications that cause weight gain I'm stuck with whatever happens.

On a positive note my blood pressure has been within the normal range everyday since starting the pain medication so I think it was the sharp nerve pain that had my BP high last week. Also, it has gotten within a few points of optimal BP since I started running.

Good to see you getting back active despite the injury setbacks. The job is sort of forcing you to which I guess is a bit of a pain, but it's still nice to see you can handle it so far.

I hope you have a good weekend too Sunflower!

Vee I've been doing field work the entire time. The only time that I wasn't in the field was when I had the large paperwork mess to tend to. I have otherwise been out in the field at least twice a week the whole time. I should have passed up some of the field work maybe, but I didn't. It made it really hard to not be able to cross a fence of creek channel without having to recover after. It's been waaaaaaay better since the nerve pain pills.

It's nice to have the baseline activity of my job, but I definitely need to push beyond that as it is inconsistent in frequency and intensity.

Thanks for the advice Quercus, I am already looking at hr monitors I will get one with build in alarms, seems welcoming to me not having to both jog/run and check puls at the same time.
Have a great weekend!

Yes it's great Clarissa especially for a gammel dude like myself. ;)

That's all the Danish I know and I learned that while drinking Gammel Dansk. I used to work for a company that was originally part of Novo-Nordisk (Danish Drug Company).

My weight is up a few more pounds today. I'm up to 329 now. I'm going to be careful with my calories, but I don't feel I've been doing poorly with my diet to have these gains. My left leg is swollen so that's part of it. I don't know if I'll be able to do much exercise as the leg and especially the knee is making it hard to walk and stand. I assume it's associated with my sciatica although it is possible that I wrenched my knee and didn't notice while I working in the field. I have a large bruise on my other knee and I don't bruise easily. I don't recall getting that so not noticing a twisted knee is possible. I may just need to be put down.

Gammel Dansk, haven't had that in a long while. MmmmMm it's a good bitter.
Hope You get leg and calories under control.

324.0 today which is down more than 3 pounds which is nice. Pain is pretty bad today. I'm getting tremors in my head and hands lately. I'm freaking out!

I'm so sorry to hear that you're in so much pain. I wish I could do something to help. :( Just focus on getting better in the short term. In the long term you'll have plenty of time to get back on track. Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you Mandy! I talked to my doctor and the tremors are likely a side effect of the medication. I'm freaking out a lot less now. I still hurt, but just 2 more days and I should know what is going on. Luckily the appointment is first thin on Wednesday because I wouldn't be able to focus on work. Not that I can now. I'm attempting to teach myself a programming language (Python) and I'm using my new dehydrator and making more cheese to keep myself occupied while I have limited ability to exercise.
