The amazing shrinking woman (I hope!)

I can't believe how fast the holidays are coming up! Thanksgiving is right around the corner, then Christmas and the new year. It's kind of making me nervous. Everything that we traditionally do all seems to center around food. Our families get together and all we do is eat, eat, eat, eat! :piggy:

It would be nice to have some other traditions besides cooking and eating. But I'm drawing a blank for ideas. I tried a few years ago to start some new traditions with my family, but after the last year especially I'd like to disown the whole lot of them and just stay home with hubby and the kids and be anti-social. I know my kids love spending time with all their cousins, but it gets harder and harder every year for me to put up with my siblings and their spouses, ex spouses, significant others or what ever. I know that's not really the best attitude for the holiday season, but honestly? I'd love to have some good memories of the holidays instead of going into the whole thing all stressed out and irritated because half of them treat it like some sort of "I'm better than you contest" and the other half treat it as a personal pity party where they hope to make you feel sorry enough for their lazy butts to give them large amounts of cash. If I weren't related to these people, I would never willingly spend time with them. I just think it would be more fun to spend time with people I actually LIKE.

That doesn't sound like the sort of fun that Christmas is supposed to be. I usually have all the close family round to my house 3 days running. There are usually between 15 and 20 of us and we mostly all get on so we don't have too many problems. Luckily the weather is usually good enough that we can spend time outside and the last 2 years we've even been able to eat outdoors. It used to be easy to seat everyone when the kids were tiny but now they are all grown up and have started to bring boyfriends and girlfriends along as well which makes a seating nightmare if we have to be indoors.
We always play loads of silly games and get out the dressing up box and all dress up which is a lot of fun.

Agree with Ecky--That doesn't sound like much fun :( You should do what *you* want to do this Christmas!

(Also, woooo on the sexy underwear! I always have the problem of shoving my boobs into tiny tops even though it fits everywhere else so good to know you found something!!)

When I was lingere shopping for hubby (well, myself really) the other day I noticed they had such cute bras on sale right now. With matching undies! I went back because I couldn't resist and tried on the bras to see if I could possibly find any to fit. Imagine my shock when I discovered that I'm down another cup size (to a D)!!! WOO HOO!!!! YIPPEEEE YAHOOOO!!!!! I had to stay with the 38 rib size, even though it's a little big. When I tried a 36D it's like the cups are in a different spot (too close together) and it didn't fit right. I figure if the rib bands are too loose I can run them thru the sewing machine and take them in a bit. I ended up getting 3 sets of bras with matching panties (in a size 7!) in 3 different colors. They are very pretty, but not exactly the best supporting things in the world. I've discovered that if you want a decent supportive bra, you have no choice but to wear something ugly and plain. If you want pretty, you sacrifice function. But I can live with a little bounce in my step I guess. The price was right and they were so pretty! I can't remember the last time I bought matching underthings. Maybe if this trend keeps up I can be a C cup in a few more months! I was a C cup back in college and would LOVE to be that size again.

Now if only there was a way to make them as high and perky as they used to be back then.... Oh well. Can't have everything I guess.

RE: hair loss - protein..., but yes, you're right its is too late wonce you see it happen. It happened to every memebr of my family that went thorugh the gastric bypass too, except me (which is good, since a man in his mid 40's would like to keep as much as possible), because of the reduced available protein. I used a lot of suppliments in the early stages, now I have balanced out my diet to a degree so I need fewer suppliments. But protein deficit often causes hair loss.

I still struggle to get enough protein in my diet. Been considering adding some of that powder stuff to oatmeal or yogurt for breakfast. Have you tried any? Are they any good?

Your attachment is hilarious Cabbie! I'm due to take my beginning of the month progress pictures and was thinking if I actually make it to my goal of 135 I'd do my pictures in something besides my boring old whites. I'm a little over half a pound away from the 50 lb loss mark and am hoping to get there this week!

I'm SO FREAKIN' CLOSE!!! I can't wait!

I can't imagine trying to lose weight after having kids.
Congratulations; celebrate hitting your goal with something big!

Thanks! But you know what? I've actually never thought about what I should do to celebrate getting rid of 50 lbs. I celebrated the half way mark by getting my hair cut, but I guess getting to the 50 lb mark was such a great thing to me that I didn't need to celebrate.

But now that you've put the idea in my head - I may have to give that some thought....

Hey Tigpuppy,
Nearly 50 pounds!!! That is insanely AWESOME!!!

Lol about christmas. Last Chrissy I had with my fam, my brother clipped his toenails at the dinner table, his wife (who refuses to wear a bra at the age of 40 - yes folks, we're talking National Geographic style here!) had some kind of tanty and stormed off down to the lake leaving me to watch her 5 year old autistic son who painted my mothers ($3000) velvet recliner chair with a BBQ chicken.

And that's only the start!
I'm all for doing what you WANT for Christmas :)

Tig, you are so close to 50 pounds gone! I'm sure you are very excited and you definitely have to come up with a reward. You deserve it!

As far as Christmas goes, do what you want to do. The Christmas you described doesn't sound like fun at all. And Christmas is supposed to be fun. Stay home with your family and bring the joy back into the season, you'll be glad you did.

Happy belated anniversary and grats on finding cute underthings that fit! I feel your pain about the bras. And about wanting to go down a cup size or two. lol

Hey Tigger!

Belated Happy Anniversary!

Sorry about hear about your cup size loss....(teehee).

I'm happy to see your close to the 50 mark. Good luck...and post some pics for when I get back! (No need for the lingerie....nekkid will be fine! woot woot!) <j/k>

:iagree:

just sayin'

Behave yourself boys!!!!! :D
How about a pamper day at a spa to reward yourself Tig. Leave the kids with hubby and have a completely relaxing day.

So jealous your boobs have got smaller :( Mine went *up* a size recently, despite loosing 30lbs :( Where is the logic! Know what you means about not being able to get as many sexy bras but ordering them online is a good idea as many places only cater to us "more equipped" ladies!

Hope you have a good day lady!

Thanks everyone for the happy anniversary wishes. We plan to celebrate this weekend when the kids are all gone to my mother's for the weekend. Hubby's taking me out for a steak supper tomorrow night after he gets home from deer hunting (season opens tomorrow). Saturday is supposed to be nice, so for supper I'm going to grill crab legs. YUM! There will also be staying out late at the bar since we don't have to get home to a sitter, and lots of sleeping in the next morning. And since I'm sure hubby will probaby be out hunting a good part of Saturday I get to spend most of the day doing ME stuff (what ever that ends up being). For sure I plan to go for a nice long run. And then maybe I'll just sit and listen to the silence for once. Sigh... I can't wait!

Flumes and Cabbie.... Sorry, but there will be no nekkid pics of me (posted on the forum anyway) because I'm pretty sure that might get me banned from here. And that would be terrible because I'd miss everyone like crazy! I need this place to help me get to where I want to be weight wise.

Eycky - I'm not sure a spa day is my thing. I've never been to one, so I can't really say from experience - but to me having someone put goo on my face, do my nails, give me a message, etc seems like a waste of time and money. I'm more into concrete rewards I think. Like buying something for myself that I'd love to have, but don't NEED so have been putting off. I've been eyeing this sweet new blender that I might treat myself to for making nice healthy fruit smoothies. I already have a blender that works just fine, but this new one would be way cooler! Or maybe I'll upgrade my cell phone pland and get a new phone with internet on it. There are lots of 'toys' I wouldn't mind having.

Sunflower - do you have much luck ordering bras from the internet? I'm always afraid to because I like to try them on first to make sure they fit decent and that they pass the 'bounce test' before I buy them. I don't know how you could go UP a size after losing 30 lbs though - are you sure you were wearing the correst size to start with? I read an article one time that explained how bra sizing works and how the cup sizes are different based on the band size. If the band size goes up, the same cup size goes up. A 40DD is not the same size cup as a 38DD cup if you lay one on top of the other. The 38DD is slightly smaller, almost the same as going down a cup size, but up a band size. For example, a 36DD is almost the same as a 38D. Apparently it's most noticable in the larger cup sizes.

I'm off to find a snack because I'm about 400 calories short for the day. Bought some whey protein powder - might try that in a glass of milk or something.

It's FRIDAY!!! YAY!!!! And my kids are leaving for my mothers today!!! Double YAY!!!!

I stepped on the scale this morning and got the thrill of my life - it said 129.0! But then I noticed the numbers looked kinda funny and I thought after being at 136.6 for a while now there is no way in hell I'm 129 all of a sudden. So I stepped on again. This time it said 152! Tried a 3rd time and I got 141, but the display flickered a bit. I was beginning to think my scale was demon possessed! Turns out that the kids must have been messing with it and the battery cover is now missing. The batteries were not staying in completely, so I was getting all kinds of weird readings. Looked everywhere for the cover but can't find it. Of course nobody did it, and only this nobody knows where the cover might be. So I taped the batteries in place with packing tape. I'm gonna cuss that when I have to replace the batteries next! But at least I got a normal reading when I stepped on after I taped it up. Still at 136.6. GGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!! I'm so SICK of seeing that number already!

Funny thing happened last night... Usually when I run I'm on my treadmill (gosh I love that thing!) and I put in a DVD to watch as I run. We like to buy whole seasons of different TV shows, and I find that each episode is just long enough for me to warm up, run 3 miles, and cool down. On Saturdays when I do my long run I just watch 2 episodes back to back. Well, I've been watching this one series for about a month now and am almost done with the 2nd season. Hubby put in one of the DVDs to watch last night and when the intro music came on it was all I could do to stay sitting! I felt this almost uncontrollable urge to RUN!!! It was a completely Pavlovian reaction. Funny how our bodies/minds get used to something happening when we hear, see or smell something - and then when you hear, see or smell that thing without doing the activity that goes with it, it just seems so WRONG!

Today is weights day for me - I've really been slacking in that area and haven't done them in almost 2 weeks now I think. Shame shame! I'm not sure when I'll be able to fit them in today though. After work I have to finish getting the kids' bags packed for my mothers. After they are gone I could do them then if hubby hasn't gotten his deer. If he has, then I'll have to help him gut and skin it so we can take it into the local butcher shop for processing before they close for the day. I've done the processing myself a few times, but that is one task that I absolutely HATE! It's well worth the money to me to have someone else cut it up, package everything, etc. We are planning to go out to supper, then to the bar afterwards so that leaves me with no other time to lift weights.

We'll see how things pan out I guess...

Tig, first off... I get that you are tired of seeing a given number, but hey! That's pretty good number, you know? Seriously, you are a sexy lady, and I mean that in all the best ways (maybe some of the worst ways too :reddevil: ) so take a breath, and relax, your plan is working right? It got you this far?

Weights - I am such a proponent of them. I've seen such drastic changes in the way my body is shaped since I've been doing consistent workouts again. Fit them in there... whenever you can.. cuz the overall effect is so good for you.

Last, but not least... Its Friday, no kids... I don't really need to finish that statement right? Go have fun with DH... :D

It's weird how the pavlovian reactions work. I started to have an apple when I came out of the gym and it got so that if I haven't brought one with me my mouth waters and I have to stop and buy one on the way home.
Have a great child free weekend:)

Tig, I never got back to you about protein. The primary sources that I use, are natural ones, as in normal food stuffs, because as a rule, I hate the way the suppliments taste. Generally I eat fat free cottage cheese, yogurt, (Greek is higher), and the usual meats etc. A couple of other ways. Around here we have a modified milk, Hood Simply smart, which has no fat, but milk solids added, so it has 10 g of protein, add it to say, mini wheats its like 16 g and lots of fiber? Little things like that.
