Sweating out a sickness

ive heard that you can "sweat out" a sickness like if you feel u got a cold comming up you can sit in a suana (dunno if that is the right word. Very hot room, you know what i mean). anyway, is that true? :S if so, im gonna do that the next time i feel a bit sick:p

Well over the last couple of days I have had a bad headache sore throat and runny nose and on sunday morning I decided I would go for a run and get it out of me..... BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER! I hit about 500m down my road and I had to stop and walk back. I dunno bout this sweating but I sure know running didnt do it for me.

Prolly depends on sickness. Rumor may have come from the fact that you normally finish up a virus with night sweats. Maybe folks assume you can bypass the early side effects and go straight to cure with a sweat.

I normally turn my workouts down to 50% effort and time during times of sickness. I can usually fight my way through a couple of workouts like this.

However, if you belong to a gym, be courteous and don't show-up when you know you are sick.

im not talking about working out, read the post please, sitting in a hot room, like maybe 70-90 degrees celcius.. moist air and all of that. i cant remember the english word for it.

Karky,

simmer down now...

I read the post. Thoroughly. I did reply to the post with my first paragraph. I think that it is an urban legend that you can force sweat out sickness.

I was merely pointing out that you can still workout sometimes when sick.

And, more to the point, when I mentioned about going to the gym, I was talking about the sauna. Unless you are one of the fortunate ones to a have a "very hot room" in your house, you need to go out to the gym.

Lighten up bro, I am just trying to help.

Truth is, I do not know the answer to your question... I was just chiming in my opinion.

Peace,
Rip

Urban legand.. You cannot sweat out sickness.... the bacteria if it is going to be killed off by heat is in the form of a fever!!

sorry little fingers helping here.. the sauna will give moist heat which can help clear sinuses and loosen mucus by thinning the mucous and lowering the viscosity. If the illness is an air bourne one you will spread it to others so I would say stay home and have a hot bath and close your shower curtain or invest in a vaporizer. Most respiratory infections are air bourne.

Rip, sorry if i seemed angry or anything, that was not my intention. sorry.
and thanks for the replies, i just had to know if it was ture or not:p
