SunnyDee's Diary

I'm starting my placement tonight! I'm a little nervous now. Damn night shift too, that's the worst. I tried to stay up late last night so I could sleep in late today and not be too tired for my shift. It didn't happen. I was in bed by 11:30. But I got up early this morning so that I can take a nap for a few hours this afternoon. I hope I don't pass out halfway through the night. I'm no good for anything when I'm tired.
I worked stuff out so that I will be getting day shifts too. I can't believe they were gonna stick me on all nights for 8 weeks. Holy crap! I would have died.

working the night shift will take a few weeks to get used to but it's really not that bad - if you hven't already - get yourself an eyemask for sleeping- it helps a lot :)

I loved the night shift I worked -it's really another world at night - different than the day... :)

Get lots of rest and have fun :)

When my husband was working nights this winter, he would work Tuesday to Saturday nights. He would come home from work on the Sunday morning at 8:30am, sleep till noon and then get up to switch over for a few days. Then on the Tuesday he would do his regular routine - up at 8am and nap in the afternoon, get up when we got home and nap after supper until 11:00pm. It was wild.

Good luck!

Oooooh! Interval running! you are so lucky to have a sister you get along with. Me--no siblings. Mom too poor, dad not around, Welfare then Section Eight...you get the picture :) How fun for you! It is so great to have a workout buddy!!!

Glad you two are feeling better :)

Wow your placement sounds tiring! Does that mean you have to do a day shift, then a night shift, then a day shift? Wouldn't that be worse than all nights? Or is it because all the bad stuff happens at night?

Good luck on the first shift Sunny. We expect a full report in the morning...er...or maybe the late afternoon...:)

hey!! oh, how i've missed you all!!

i hope your shift goes well!

and i'm glad that you have a running partner! i wish i had a dedicated gym person to go with me! it really does make it easier, but i know i can do it for myself, too!

looking forward to hearing from you!

Oooo, your first shift; sounds exciting. In total agreements with 12packabs. Give us a report as to how it went. Working in a hospital is crazy (I used to work in one), especially with the people that inhabit the place and I'm not just referring to the patients. There's going to be some interesting and funny stories being posted in your diary I'm suspecting.

Hope your shift went well. I won't be online tomorrow, because of the funeral, so have a great weekend. Talk next week!

Thanks for all your encouragement everyone! I survived!!! It wasn't so bad. I got to take a little cat nap on my break, which helped pick me up a little. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow when I got home this morning though. The night shift was pretty slow, which I'm not used to. I'm more accustomed to being run off my feet. But I think I'll grow to appreciate the slow shifts more as I go along. I think tonight will be a little busier because I'll be taking on some more responsibilities.
In asnwer to Valerie's question about the shifts - Nurses usually work 2 nights, get 2 off, work 3 days, get 3 off, etc... So you've got a couple of days in between to get your sleeping schedule switched around. No matter how you do it, it's exhausting sometimes.
I didn't work out yesterday or today, but I feel as though I have a good excuse. :p I'll be getting back at my running tomorrow evening. I can't wait! I don't like this lack of exercise over the past 2 days. I did weigh myself when I woke up this afternoon and I was 156.5, so I've dropped another 1 lb. My goal of 153.8 for the Spring Challenge doesn't feel too promising though. But we'll see. I have until May 6. I just really can't see myself losing almost 3 lbs by then, since I usually only lose 3 lbs in a month. But like I said, we'll see!

patience, you might not reach your goal but you'll be closer than you were when you started :)

Glad you survived your first night.. naps are abeautiful thing - glad you got time for one.

You, my dear, are doing great! Finishing your first night shift, dropping weight! Yay! Nursing is good exercise I am sure! We all know how hard nurses work :) If it's slow, that's good right?!

thank you for hand selecting my diary to be one of the special ones you visited!!! :D

i agree with rachie... you are doing great!!!

you are a kick ass person. thanks for all the love and support!

:D

Great on the first shift! Wow, being a nurse seems really, really tiring--I hope you don't get worn out!! Nice with the weight, D!!! Great work! And happy you're looking forward to your run!

Yeah, nursing is definitely good exercise. I should really wear a pedometer to count how many steps I take in one shift. I bet it would be shocking!
All is going well. I don't seem to get many chances to get on the computer, so I haven't been around much. My bro-in-law is working on a big project for work, so he's on the computer a lot. And when he's not actually in front of it, he's got files and spreadsheets and crap open on the computer, so I just stay away for fear of accidentally closing a file or something.
I had a nice relaxing weekend. On Friday, my sister and I spent 8 hours watching Grey's Anatomy! Isn't that sick? It was the first time I'd ever seen the show. I still can't really determine whether or not I like it... But we watched almost the entire second season over the course of the weekend. CRAZY.
I ate pretty well this week. The Spring Challenge was helpful because it steered me away from processed foods. I got a reasonable amount of exercise in as well, between running and going to the gym. We start the next phase of our running program this week! I'm looking forward to that. I have to do my monthly weigh-in tomorrow, and I'm a little worried. I'm not going to panic if I didn't make my monthly goal though. It would be the first time, and these slow patches are to be expected. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Glad to hear you had a nice relaxing weekend. The girls I work with watch "Grey's " all the time. I've seen it once, and just couldn't get into it.

Take care.

i LOVE grey's anatomy!!!!

i hope you are having a great week so far!

:)

I'm definitely getting into Grey's Anatomy, but I absolutely can't stand Meredith. And it's really hard to truly appreciate a show when you can't stand the lead character. Haha. George and Dr. Bailey are my favorites. And I actually love Addison, despite the fact that she's kind of the "bad guy". Maybe the fact that I hate Meredith makes me root harder for Addison. lol Anyway, we watched the first two episodes of season 3 today, so we still have plenty of catching up to do.
Anyway, on to matters concerning fitness and weight loss! Turns out I didn't quite make my monthly goal, which was 155.8. I made it to 156.0, so I was just a smidge off. I'm now 155.5 though, so I'm doing alright. I was just a couple of days late. The running is going very well. I really love it! I'm off tomorrow, so I'm planning on getting up at 8 and going to the gym with my sister. I'll have to assess how I feel in the morning though. It's already 2am and I'm not in bed yet, so I may not feel up to the gym after not getting enough sleep. In that case, I'll do a workout video or go on the stationary bike or something.
