A quiz... because I'm bored at work.
1. What is your current height and weight?
5'5", 160.4
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
I think it would be 130... I can remember weighing 130, in fifth grade. How sad.
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
I could see myself at 145. I would like to be at 140 or possibly 130 by Spring Break.
4. Why do you want to lose weight?
I want to feel attractive and confident. People always say I'm not fat but numbers like BMI and waist/hip ratio and the scale say otherwise. And of course I want to look better.
5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
Spring Break vacation, 2012! March 10th. Cancun, Mexico
6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Large portions, or underestimating the calories in different foods.
7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
My parents let me eat whatever I wanted when I was young, and I use food as an emotional thing - I'm happy, let's eat. I'm sad, let's eat etc.
8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Smaller portions. And using a food scale. And exercising every day, one way or another.
9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Yes. I lost ~50 lbs between my freshman year of high school and my junior year of high school. I went from 210 to 155, and then my senior year I was at 163. I stayed at 163 until the end of my freshman year, when I was at ~180. I stayed at 180 for most of college, and lost ~30lbs my senior year. Then I have stayed about the same (165-ish) for the last year and a half because 163 is the max limit for my height for my job (military). I always lost weight when I consistently exercised at a high intensity (soccer in high school) or even at a low-intensity (college, but I ate almost no carbs).
10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
I got lazy and drank too much in college, and I ate at the all-you-can-eat buffet in the cafeteria every day, three times a day. I didn't exercise like I should have.
12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Yes, and it's been working amazingly. It's like having a group of people all in the same room with the same goals, sharing everything they know!!
13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
Yes. Almost every meal I make is at home. We eat in a restaurant maybe once every two weeks, but I wish it was even less than that because I can't tell what I'm eating.
14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
See above, and we usually pick chinese (the worst) or Mexican (can be bad, but can also be somewhat healthy). I like sushi too, but it's usually kind of pricey. We don't eat at fastfood restaurants though, not that it really matters because regular restaurants are usually worse than fast food.
15. What are your three favorite foods?
Three fav healthy foods: Any and all vegetables, seafood, homemade egg mcmuffins
Three fav unhealthy foods: Pizza (tons of it), chinese food, french fries. (But it's getting to the point where the idea of feeling the way I feel after I eat that kind of food is enough to make me NOT eat it, which is amazing.
16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Indian food, chinese food, italian food
17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Definitely watch my portions
Use less oil/fats
Use more meat-replacement stuff - Quorn, tofu
18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
My thighs would be skinnier where they rub together at the top (no touching..), my arm fat would be gone and they would be toned and strong, my stomach would be flat and muscular, no leg or armpit or moustache or rouge eyebrow/chin hairs, permanently tan, and the fat at the top of my back would be gone, and I would have perfect eyesight. And then I would quit my job and be a victorias secret model. Haha
19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
I used to, when I was bored. But I can't remember the last time I did that.
20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
No. Even when I was not watching my intake, my portions were large but I would not call it binge eating. Except if I made a batch of cookies and ate a lot, but even then I wouldn't say I was "binging" - it was just a lack of self-control until my appetite was satiated and then it went away.
21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No.
22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
No, usually it's a happy feeling that makes me eat.
23. Do you eat as a reward?
Definitely used to, but I am getting more and more control over separating food from my emotions.
24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Yes I do. I know I shouldn't, but I have been limited my portions so well lately that I don't really see the problem. Plus I am usually too busy looking down at my food to watch the TV. We just sit at the couch because our dining room is kind of a mess.
25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
I will make a main protein dish - meat or fish or meat replacement - with sides of a salad or beans or steamed vegetables. Then sometimes a popsicle.
26. What type of snacks do you eat?
I'm not much of a snacker.
27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Walking, yoga, stretching. I can't do intense cardio or swim or ab workouts yet (surgery), but I can start using the elyptical so I will do that soon.
28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Walk on my lunch breaks at work, walk to the gym, walk the dog, weights/yoga/stretching at the gym.
29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Cross country skiing (even though I look like an idiot, go super slow, and fall a lot) because it's such a good workout, swimming but not in lanes.. just treading and playing treading games, like water polo, soccer, but I haven't played in a long time. I'm trying to find a team.
30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Daily is logging my intake and exercise and reading other peoples' experiences. Weekly is weighing myself and recording it on my ticker. I also put things I want to buy from victorias secret in a wish basket on their website. Monthly... I don't have a particular monthly goal as I've only been watching my intake for three weeks. Yearly, I don't think it should take a whole year to lose my 30-40lbs, but if it does, it would be to have it done by next year. I think it should only take me 6-7 months to get to 140, as I only have 20 more lbs to go. But my yearly goal would be to get to my weight that I like myself at, 130 I imagine, and maintain it successfully.
31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
Buying new clothes, the vacation in March is kind of a reward I think.
