Starting Over

So I have been killing myself for eight months trying to lose weight to no avail. I have a dietician who keeps my eating on track and a personal trainer who I believe is trying to kill me:). I have only lost 10lbs. Today, I got the greatest news. My doctor caled and said I indeed have hypothyroidism. I had it tested months ago and they found nothing. Today I will start taking Synthroid and the doc says the weight will definitely start coming off now. First of all, THANK GOD!!!!!! Second, I have decided to start all over with my diary. I stopped writing on here months ago because I was depressed and felt pretty bad because I wasn't losing weight and was trying so hard. Many of my friends and family have told me I must not be eating as well as I thought or exercising as hard. This made me feel horrible because I knew I was. I was a personal trainer for four years and I know how to lose weight. I just couldn't figure out why it wasn't coming off. I cannot wait to see the first five pounds come off. My goal is to lose 40lbs by October 6th, my 25th birthday. My other goal is to be back in shape by this time next year and start personal training again. The people on this forum really inspire me, especially Wishes, she's amazing. I wish everyone on this forum the best of luck and only hope you wish me the same.

much success in getting to where you want to be -

I was talking to someone recently who is on Synthroid, really pay attention to some of the side effects, the big one she mentioned was the nauseausness that she gets if she eats within an hour of taking it...

I found a bunch of reviews yesterday online and they were pretty mixed. I couldn't believe what some people said about it. Some gained weight, some had heart problems. Pretty scary. I never take meds but am willing to take this to get my thyroid back to normal and to finally lose this weight. If I start having any weird side effects, I will definitely stop taking it. I was taking Celebrex 8 years ago before they put the warning out that it caused all kinds of health problems. It damaged my kidneys and I ended up going to a kidney specialist for over a year to get better. Since then, I try to stay away from any kind of medication unless absolutely necessary.

If you haven't seen it - drugs.com has a pretty comprehensive analysis pf both the good and bad and potential side effects of any drug.

but as always... do discuss your concerns with your doctor and maybe there are altnertive treatments.

135 before pregnancy, now I am 175. My goal is 130.

Sounds familiar :). I was 137 pre-preggers, went up to a whopping 198 (including baby), and now down almost to prepregnancy weight after over a year. It is NOT easy getting this "baby weight" off, though people call it that as if its somehow easier than "real fat". Ha ha, we know better dont we? How old's your baby now?

Your determination is admirable, and I'm sure you can do it.

I'm taking off "medication weight". Pre pregnancy was about 145, that's further down the road for me! I'd just like to break in to the 170s. Have been around 181, 180 for over a month now.

I got to 200 (with baby) and ended up 185 at my six week check up. I am now 175. I think "baby weight" is worse. It's all stretched out and saggy. Gross! My abs stay sore from all the crunches I do to tone up my waistline.

My Annabelle will be nine months old next week. She is my inspiration. I want her to grow up knowing how important being healthy is, not necesarily slim. How many children do you have?

It's really great to see that you are still here and achieving your weight loss and fitness goals. I'll bet you a feeling really good too. I would if I had lost 20lbs!

I officially started the Synthroid today. I'm doing well with my calorie intake, only 500 calories from breakfast, a snack and lunch. I plan to have consumed around 1300 calories before I work out with my trainer tonight at 7pm and then have grilled protein and veggies afterwards for a late dinner. The dietician wants me to consume 1500 calories a day, 1600 for heavy workout days. I have been working out with the trainer 3 times a week for 3 months now and my husband and I go hiking almost every saturday and jogging on sundays. My doc wants me to rest on sundays and only workout 4 days a week to keep myself from wearing down but we've really come to enjoy our jog together with the baby in the stroller. I may take this weekend off though. I need a bit of a break from the daily grid and my nazi trainer. I am really excited about getting my thyroid back in check. I am already fantasizing about all of my "skinny" clothes that I will be able to wear again in a few months. Most of all, my size 5/6 Levi's that are perfectly broken in so the denim is super soft. <sigh> I really need to start keepig a log of my workouts now. I am curious to see how many calories I burn each time.

I went up to 198 and down to 167 about 3 weeks after giving birth. I then started plateauing (I lost about 5 pounds in 4 months) until I got more serious in October 2006. So I consider the 31 pounds lost within a few weeks as my "baby weight" and anything else as true fat (which is why my ticker starts at 167). It seems we have very similar stats.

I also want my little Angeline to grow up being and eating healthy and enjoying lots of activity (rather than couch potatoing it).

I will be getting my stretch marks removed after I get the weight off. I only got them on my thighs but they look pretty bad. My stomach has bounced back from the pregnancy, I can actually feel the muscles beneath the body fat, but then again, I am only 24. I would not mind getting a little lipo on my thighs on the inside of my knees though. Even when I was thin I had "fat knees". It always made my legs look bigger than they actually were, and I'm not being super critical of myself, Other people have told me I have fat knees also. :)

Angeline is a beautiful name. How old is she now?

Thanks AmyRB, my baby just turned 1. I had her at 38 years old and I think that's why my skin wouldn't stretch back in my stomach, everywhere else looked just as before and I didn't get any stretch marks luckily. Aside from the skin, the ab muscles had torn apart in the middle and would never come back on their own.

I've heard that could happen to your ab muscles during pregnancy. It sounds painful. I remember my abs feeling really weird the first few months of working out after the pregnancy, but they feel normal now.

Is your daughter walking yet? Bella is starting to crawl and get into things. I'm trying to NOT be one of those competitive moms, but it's killing me that another baby three weeks younger than her is almost walking already. I know they all do it at different times, but I am so anxious for her to be more mobile. She is so much fun.

My husband has just informed that the Air Force is celebrating it's 60th anniversary and they will be having a large ball at the Peabody here in Little Rock, which is really nice. This is going to be completely formal and will be held in September. So this means I have to squeeze my chubby self into some formal ballgown. :eek2: I thought I was through with this stuff after high school. :( I have roughly 12 weeks to lose enough weight to look good in something else rather than a moomoo with sequins. If I really work hard and lose healthy 2lbs a week, I think I could be at least 20lbs lighter by then. Especially since I am now on synthroid. I am already training 4-5 times a week and consuming 1500-1600 calories a day. I'm not going to change my diet, but will definitely be upping my cardio much more until then. Gosh, wish me luck!

Ate horribly all weekend. Back on track today though. I hate when we take trips out of state. There's only fast food to eat.

what a great reason to really keep you motivated a fancy ball gown with lots of military in dress uniform :) oooh baby :D

Ok Im calm now :D

Yeah, that's what won me over with my husband. I LOVE a man in uniform. He's a pilot so he always looks smokin' hot in his flight suit. I just need to get my butt in gear so I can look smokin' in my dress!

Hey Amy! I didn't see you popping up in my subscriptions so I apologize for not responding sooner. My baby turned one on June 17 and she's still not walking. I think its very unusual for a baby to walk at 10 months so dont worry about it. It'll happen more than soon enough, and they'll be getting into everything and we'll be burning lots of calories chasing them around.
