Sophies diary

Oops - backwards! Mean that us Brits call them chips and Americans tend to say fries.... then we have crisps which you call (potato) chips - is that the right way round?! bleh - too much coffee sends brain backwards!! :) I probably messed up again

That sounds more like it! I was wondering where you were from in America that you called fries chips. hehehe. Mmmmm coffee!!

and raw potatoes????????
whats that about lol

When I was a child, when peeling the potatoes to make mashed potatoes etc, I would sneak a few after cutting them into hunks. I still do it actually. :D Of course back then, sometimes I'd add a little salt to it before eating it, but not now.

IMO, it's really good. I'm not sure if I picked it up from one of my parents or grandparents. I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountain area of NC/VA so maybe that's where it came from.

oooh well thats a very interesting childhood habit there. mine was biting my nails. how repulsive - at least potatoes are supposed to be edible. of course i have stopped biting them now - took 13 years though lol
and blue ridge sounds so pretty.
i have never been to america - the names there fascinate me - one day i hope to go

any suggestions for a low calorie breakfast that will me up and ease my morning carb crave. and also takes less than 5 mins to make.

yeah. too much milk/dairy is an absolute disaster for me. although i can have small amounts without feeling too bad - i have to keep up my calcium etc

If you make some hard boiled eggs (in advance, I think they keep up to a week or so) and have a couple of them, minus the yolk, with some whole wheat toast and maybe a banana or some other fruit for breakfast, I'd think that it would be a good healthy option, and the only thing you'd have to do is toast the bread, and clean or peel your fruit.

yeah actually thats a really good idea :) i will do that tomorrow as i have a race free day tomorrow for once!
i have a vicious circle where i get up rlly tired in the morning and crawl downstairs and then absolutely pile a bowl high of cereal and then go and scoff it all. i always know i will do it and i still do it
tsk
tomorrow i am having fruit i have decided - we have some beastie apples atm

Hey - Sophie - just checking in before I head out for my workout :)
I am a Brit - from Wales but am studying in the States! Today my translation came out backwards but normally I understand the lingo! :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

and then everybody kind of ganged up against me trying to get me to eat a piece of cake. it was pretty awful

It would have been worse if I had been there, lol
I get pretty rude when people pull this kind of crap, I have actually taken the cake/desserty item and said "Thank you!" and then just dropped it straight into the garbage. "Wow, that felt great! I really like being able to do that. Hey, what are you so upset about? That was one of the best desserts I've ever had someone insist on giving me!"

I had to do this to my mom, several times. I've actually taken desserts and candies she has brought me and insisted I take, opened them up in front of her, and dumped them straight into the garbage. It takes some effort, but it does get the point across.
When people bring over crap like that and tell me they have "brought me a gift", and it is obvious they are just being obnoxious about it, I just say "Sure, I'll throw that away for you if you don't know someone who would want it."

Boo to them for being rude, by the way! You need to find a better class of people! Well, I know they all have their benefits, but I have had to ditch quite a few people from my life over the past several years just because of behaviors like that. Being tested on a constant daily basis is hard enough without having vultures waiting to pounce and apply social pressure, just so they can feel good about manipulating us.
I do NOT react well to that sort of thing, and I want to compliment you on coming out of it with your temper and manners intact.

thankyou Qjay - my patience did rise though! i have been known to put food in the bin but more secretly i suppose. like when parentals are out i sometimes go around with a bin liner and put all the absolute rubbish in there and chuck it - thats usually when im in a bad mood and know that i feel snacky :( i sometimes feel guilty about wasting it though but then also it would be a pretty big waste me eating it - i wouldnt feel anything but guilt afterwards!
So wales eh rachie - land of the sheep ;)

hi sophie. sorry for not coming these past few days, i had chaos at work, but finally cleared everything so no i can finally post. yesterday i was asleep for most of the day (partied a bit on friday lol). i have some kind of cold AGAIN so i'm pretty angry about it since its so beautiful outside...spring two months early hehe.
don't feel guilty or bad either for those sandwiches or cakes or anything. your workout riutine is such that you really don't have to feel guilty if you had more carbs than the rest of us, you need it more. and having carbs for breakfast is ok just don't have complex ones for lunch or dinner (pasta, bread, rice) and if you are having this for lunch or dinner then have hard boiled eggs and some fruit or something high in protein for breakfast.
i completely understand your problem with your mom. i solved it by buying my own food, so i make myself separate meals, and i'm resisting well her cakes and baked potatoes hehe. with every "no, thanx mom...maybe in a year" i'm getting stronger :D
have a great sunday sophie! Lena

gosh its so great to have you back round here lena :) ive missed your posts. hope your weight loss is going well! sorry youve been so busy and that youre unwell - i hope you get better soon.
anyway this morning was weigh intime. so i wasnt expecting anything because i have gone over my calires a little bit this week. but i have lost a pound :D which i know isnt much i guess but im happy because its better than the gain/nothing i was expecting
hope you guys have equally/more successful days today

Do you have lactose free dairy products available where you live? Here we can get everything without lactose, so even those with lactose intolerance can eat dairy.. If you can't find it, and don't want to eat regular yoghurt, just substitute it in the following recipe with orange juice, that's what my mom would do (she's allergic to milk protein, and can't have any dairy at all, but that's a very rare condition, fortunately).

Breakfast suggestion:
1 Banana (200 g) contains 56 cal/100g 112
1,5 dl natural yoghurt (150 g) 57 cal/100g 85,5
1 dl All Bran bran flakes (30 g) 326 cal/100g 97,8
together they make 295,3 cals

If you're eating about 1200-1500 cals a day this makes about one fourth of your daily energy, which (at least where I live) is the recommendation. And I assure you this keeps you going till lunch. The banana will give you energy immediately and the yoghurt and bran flakes will keep it up for a long time.
The yoghurt is un of the unflavoured, unsweetened variety, containing max 1,5% fat. I hope it's available in the UK as well. You can mix it all together, it's fast to fix and crunchy to eat. If you want variety, you can do this with apples instead of a banana, two small ones or one big one. That will drop the total calories down to about 250.
Tell me, what you think, so if this is not to your taste, I'll think of something else. :)
Juliette

thankyou juliette will definitely add it to my list of things to try! it sounds pretty good to me :)
this morning i did something quite similar with a soya yoghurt a banana a pear and some cornflakes. i think the bran flakes would be a better thing to add though for fibre.
where abouts in scandinavia are you from?

wowww :) it would be so amazing to visit a country like that - it would be totally different to anything i would ever have been used to.
i have been to sweden .. thats in scandinavia right???
lol

i have been to sweden .. thats in scandinavia right???

Yes, right next to us there, our much loved rivals... :p
If you've been there, you almost know how it's like here. People are different, though, or at least that's my opinion.
