SkinnyKate's Diary

hey lerato, whos the cutie pie in the pic?
and sara, so are YOU!

I'm glad to see you are doing so much better. You are doing a great job. You have great motivation! Congratulations on the look from the grinning guy! :D

SkinnyKate,

that particular cutie is mahjonny, a little darling! january til june this year i went to south africa and taught full time to 80 kids in a farm school, taught them english amongst every subject too. mahjonny was in the creche, and absolutely adored the camera! i have way to many photos from there, best time of my life, unfortunately i had to come home because of circumstances, and i was nearly at the end of the placement anyway. but the kids there are all so gorgeous, they all smile like that even though they don't always have enough to eat and they have to walk hours to get to and from school.

they are right little troopers!

what an awesome experience! its something you can cherish forever now!

and if thats u in the pic, your quite a cutie yourself!

thanks, it was unbelievable, i had the most amazing time... it is something i will cherish forever, but at the end of the 5 and a half months of the best time of my life, i had one day which was the worst of my life and unfortunately it kinda ruined it a bit for me, i couldnt believe i had to leave my kids and come home, i was so gutted! suppose u got to take the good with the bad. anyway, i wont go into detail cos its not the most enjoyable thing or ppl to read about lol.

and re: the pic, yes it's me but cutie i am not lol! also, it was hard to look at my best when i'd walked 6 kilometres in morning humidity and african heat to get there at 7am lol! definitely doesn't do much for ur appearance lol, altho i did end up in a relationship with a man out there, met him after a couple of months and one weekend he picked me up from school on the friday when he came to stay for the weekend - he saw me at my worst and still complimented me, what a guy he was!

nah, more like 5 kids in my house!! I have to buy food almost every day for my clan. And we are all eating the same stuff.

We are eating raw fruits, and mostly raw veggies. Salad, soup, cukes in vinegar, cukes in greek salad, cukes in yogurt. In fact, I wanna make cucumb er soup sometime. Lots of lettuce, lots of pickles, lots of broccoli, artichokes, aparagus, corn in a can, & potatoes once a week. Red meat once a week, chicken tuna and turkey the rest of the time...wait a minute, im carrying on like a loon here!

I need new vegetables, at least. gittin tired of em.

good morning redneckwoman, thanks for the kudos!

Alright now I have to ask, where do you get these pitas from? and what are all your pita recipes, they all sound Oh so yummy!! :D

hey michelle and newleaf!

pita..mmm yes.,,oh happy day the first pita I ever had. Back in1984, Athens, Greece(ex was air force) We stopped at the first restaurant we could find there, after we got off the plane. I ordered a souvlaki with a pita wrap, and a Greek salad. I find pitas these days in the bakery section of any grocery store, ours usually has em by the deli meats. you can stuff them with anything youd put in a sandwich.

Because they are round and usually hollow, they can either be cut in half for a pocket, or left alone to make your pizza 'crust'. I just add a lil bit of yogurt and half fat feta cheese, sliced tomatoes and bell peppers and onions, sprinkled with a little low fat parmesan. Ive even done a 'salsa' pizza, with chunky salsa, and low fat cheddar. a whole pita has about 160 calories, and half for a sandwich is 80.

Greeks make it with meat on a stick(souvlaki) and theirs is usually lamb if I recall correctly. Eaten alone is good too. Their traditional Greek salad has cucumbers and tomatoes cut big, with red onions on top, a big chunk of feta(goat cheese_) and virgin olive oil with some kind of awesome tasting vinegar. plus a lil salt and pepper. Great now Im hungry!!:D

I am off to the grocery store, to stock up on water and such. Try these youll like em!

Hi Kate. I love Pita Pockets! Used to make them with just about everything in them. Have had them in years. I wonder why? Hmmm, something to add to my grocery list! What part of Texas are you in? I'm just southeast of San Antonio!
