My thoughts
Hi Jane. I joined WW online before and lost only a few lbs- but that was back when I was 140 and really didn't follow it that well.
I'm up to 175 these days and joined WW out of desperation to get control of my eating and do something!
I've been on it now for 2 months and had lost 6 lbs the first 3 weeks, but then gained it back when I was on my honeymoon. I still struggle with eating the 23 points a day I'm allowed, but I'm slowly getting the hang of incorporating 0 point foods, which when I do use them I really do see a drop in the scale when I weigh in!
I wanted to try the Core plan but the first day I was at a loss. I couldn't have bread and other things I'm used to, so went to the points for now. I've lessened my bread intake a lot and use WW bread (1 point for 2 slices) when I do have toast in the morning.
personally, I say give it a shot. If you want the social aspect and meetings are easy for you to get to, then try the meetings. Myself, I live ina small town and meetings exist but at hours that don't work for me, plus I don't really like the social aspect (though who knows, maybe I'll try joining the meetings if this doesn't work), so I'm doing it online.
Tracking food is not a nuisance at all. I simply take a few minutes at work to log breakfast and lunch, or else I wait til I'm home at lunchtime to log it. If I can't make it online during the day, I do it before or after dinner.
I prefer WW to calorie counting, as 23 points sounds like a lot, where 1200 calories sounds like so little. And 2 activities points like like more than 100 calories burned. Know what I mean? I get angry at myself if I go up to 28 points (like I did yesterday) even though that's almost about 1400 calories (give or take a but becacuse points takes fibre into account and there's also 0 point items that do have caloric value).
If you can afford it, try it. If not, try out SparkPeople.com - it's free and is similar to WW in terms of logging food. It does involve calorie counting, but I know that works for a lot of people.
