Scared of the scale

I'm also considering increasing my weight training session and decreasing the amount of cardio I do. I'm thinking of going from doing resistance training every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday to doing it on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Then, instead of doing cardio on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, I'd only be doing it on Tuesday and Thursday. For me, I've notice that I burn more fat doing resistance training than I do with just focusing on cardio. Hmmm, what do you guys think?

Glad things are going well! Wow what an emotional rally! Looks like you enjoyed it as a positive experience--probably a little difficult to see people cry. About the plan: I'd say, try it, why not--see what happens in a few weeks? I agree, resistance training really seems to tone me up and make jiggle turn firm.

You look so beautiful!!! Congrats on defeating the plateau!! And nice essay on soda. I used to really like Santa Cruz Organics and Fizze Izzes but my final word is "drink water--it's better for your teeth."

It's all muscle baby

Happy Sunday everyone. I'm in a great mood. My brother just turned 25 today. Who would have thought it; we were just little kids a bit ago. Time really caught up to us fast. I had a really good day, and I went to the doctor's office on Wednesday, had a fat composition test done and good news, I'm more muscle than I am fat. He also told me that he thought that the idea of me losing 35 more pounds wasn't so good. He suggested that I be in the 150-160 range. I kinda agree, even though I always wanted to know what being 145 felt like, but he said that if I were to get any smaller than that, I'd look totally unhealthy especially taking into consideration my large frame size and my height. So as you can see, I've readjusted my ticker and I'm now aiming for a healthy weight range of somewhere between 150-155lbs. I'll be happy with whatever range I'm in as long as I feel healthy oh and drop a dress size or two (hopefully 2 dress sizes :p ).

Breakfast
1/2 grapefruit
1 bowl special K
2 small cantaloupe slices
1.3 cups cottage cheese

Lunch
Turkey sandwich on a plain bagel
- 2 slices turkey breast meat
- 1 tsp mayo
- 9 spinach leaves
- 1 tomato

Dinner
Not too sure. Hopefully they're serving something edible in the dining hall.

Total water consumed: 6 glasses thus far.

That is so great. I like hearing that! Muscle is a very handy thing to have :) Glad to hear you got good advice from your doctor--makes me happy! Great stats, have a wonderful evening!

I think you're going to kick A_s!

Then, I went to the gym, did some nice weight training and just felt like I was being productive and heading back towards the right direction. I've stuck within my calorie range, and I haven't had a bad snack in the last 16 hours. I'm really feeling good about things right now.

Great plan Funky! About swimming, it's considered the "perfect" exercise because it is a total, and I mean total body workout. It's both aerobic and anaerobic and you use every muscle group. That's why people get hungry. But you can up your calories to compensate for the kind of energy you're putting out with swimming. My brother and sister and my son all swim. I wish I could get the breathing thing coordinated with my strokes and still swim straight. I usually end up taking large amounts of water into my lungs. lol

Congrats on defeating your plateau! And I'm thrilled to hear that you're a lean, mean muscle machine. Haha. Good luck with your new weight goal.
I'm not sure what advice to give about the cardio vs weight training. I don't do a whole lot of weight training. I find that cardio is what works for me, but everyone is different. However, regular cardio exercise (a few days a week) is important in order to maintain your overall health. Sure, weight training will help you be strong and toned, but that's not going to matter as much when you're 70. So I think a balance is important. I tend to think of health-related matters in terms of the distant future, but I understand that not everyone is like that.

well done on your weight loss! and i agree with curves - give the extra resistance a go and see if it works for you :)
those dress size drops are so achievable now
xx

Playing hooky

Ah, I couldn't motivate myself to stay in my photography class for more than 40 minutes. I really didn't have much to do today and didn't see the sense in staying for the entire 3 hour duration. So around 2:30 I left and haven't looked back since. I did some resistance training today, and can I tell you; hearing that I'm a lot of muscle must have put something in my head because I felt like the incredible hulk today. I normally bench around 85lbs and do 4 reps of 10 at 85lbs. Today, I upped it by 10 additionals pounds and did 4 sets of 10 at 95lbs. The ladies that work in the gym were so impressed. I was busy bench pressing when I hear someone say "oh my gosh, look at her go!" I look over and I see a little crowd of about 3 women watching me bench press. I thought it was so funny because they just kept on saying, "wow, she's so strong. She actually put weights on the bar; I can't even lift that bar." It was a surreal experience.

Let's see, I also upped my weights when it came down to me doing weighted squats. Now I can do a nice 105-110lbs of regular squats doing 4 sets of 10. Not too shabby especially considering that I hadn't been going to the gym as reguarly as I had wanted this month. The count down has officially begun. There are a total of 3 weeks left in my undergraduate career. I'm thisclose to being a real college graduate. It's so exciting and scary at the same time. I'm actually going to have to be an adult. Ahhh, scary stuff there. I'm waiting on one more piece of news, and then I know that I'm a go to graduate. My grades for my comps (the finals you take within your major to determine whether you graduate) haven't arrived yet. It's odd because the soc/anthro. kids were the first set of people to take their comps. Everyone else has found out their grades, but we're still in limbo. I'm hoping that tomorrow will be the day that I finally get official word.

Breakfast
2 poached eggs
1/2 grapefruit
1 cup special K w/ 1% milk
3 small wedges of cantaloupe
2 ounces of cottage cheese

Lunch
Turkey sandwich on plain bagel
salad w/ kidney beans

Dinner
Stirfry beef over wild rice
side of mixed vegetables

Snack
1 small apple
caramel rice cake
1 small orange
1 granola bar

That is so f-ing awesome!!! Yeah yeah!!! 95 lbs! I think I'll try that today!! Let's see, I do 75....I'll give it a shot, why not?!?!

Congradulations!! Ah I remember graduating with my B.A. in Anthrolopogy way back in 2004...*giggle*

Sexploration

We had a guest speaker swing over and her entire lecture which took two days, was entirely on sex. How to have it, when to have, and if you're having it, how to do it correctly and safely. It was informative. I personally don't have sex, but the stuff she talked about was still useful information especially her demonstrations concerning safe sex. From an academic standpoint, the lecture did it's job and got me thinking about sex in different light.

From a need to know if I'm doing this right standpoint; she hit the nail on the head and answered a lot of probing questions that people seem too embrassed to asked. Too bad I can't remember her name all I can remember is that she's a columnist for the village voice and offers sex advice in her column. The funniest part about the presentation was seeing the people that came out to the event. It was real funny seeing my professors out there learning about anal sex 101 and the art of foreplay. Hahaha, I still can't get the picture out of my head.

Good news. I PASSED MY COMPS!!!! I'm actually going to graduate. It didn't even sink in until I looked at the paper and I was like, hell yes. Now I'm off to go and get a graduation gown and pic up my tickets. I haven't gone to the gym yet, but will be going later this evening. I've got a lot of work to catch up on, and I need the better part of today to try and do it. Alright, back to work I go. I think I might even post up my cardio workout routine for anyone that's interested.

Breakfast
1 cup of oatmeal w/4 oz of 1% milk
1/2 grapefruit
2 cantaloupe slices
2 oz of cottage cheese

Lunch
Turkey sandwich on plain bagel
Spinach salad w/ red kidney beans, 8 broccolli spears and light ranch dressing
1 serving of sugar less fat free jello

Dinner
Spaghetti w/ marina sauce

I'm trying to reduce the amount of frivolous carbs I consume. I've been limiting my bread intake to about 1 serving a day. Usually a bagel. But I think I'm going to go back to eating whole wheat bread instead. We'll see how that works out. I'm also trying to increase my water intake to around 12 glasses a day. I generally drink 4 cups of water while working out along with the 8 regular glasses I have during the day. I've also reduced my intake of processed food. I generally have 2 servings of processed foods each day. That's usually in the form my salad dressing, and the bagel I eat. Other than that, a good portion of my food is fresh. I'm pretty happy with the way I've been eating and all I'm looking to really do is get into more healthy eating habits.

Congratulations

omg FUNKY!!! Congratulations on passing the comps. What a relief. Now you can have so much fun planning your grad. Good for you for looking at the bread...today I went a little overboard on the stuff and noticed what a difference it makes.

Anal sex...ouch!

Once again, congradulations! You're a graduate!!!

(I benched 95 lbs Monday but could only do sets of 6 reps. It felt good, though! Thanks for inspiring me, if inadvertantly.)

Thanks for the congratulations everyone. It was a real relief seeing that letter. I've been hiding out in my room and I've been mainly at the gym these last couple of days. The semester is winding down real quickly, and I've been on the grind for the better part of it. I'm almost entirely caught up on everything, and I'm just finalizing things for my quick trip back home. Um I haven't been up to much. Pretty much the same old same old. I went out dancing with some friends last weekend, then went dancing again but this time it was salsa. I had to abandon the dance floor once the DJ started playing tango. I can't tango, so I left it to Those that knew how. Yesterday, I was at a dance concert (hahaha there seems to be a recurring theme) and to end it, I performed at an art exhibition. Unfortunately, I've been so caught up in work, that I accidently missed my friend's birthday party. I got the dates confused and thought the celebration was going to happen today instead of last night. I was really disappointed, but she forgave me.

Funny thing happened on the way to the forum, well actually on my way to the gym. I ran into my old piano professor and she said hello, I stopped and said hello too and then she commented, "O, I always see you at the gym. I think that's the only time I ever see you on campus." My friend, who works over at the gym started laughing, and said "well I guess the secret's out, everyone knows you're a gym rat." I'm ok with that. I'm about to head on over to the gym as we speak. I'm planning a nice session of cardio since it's been bumped down to only happening 2 days out of the week. The rest of the days are exclusively weight training days. I may not be losing weight as quickly as before, but the wobbly bits aren't as wobbly as they once were, and I feel as though I look much leaner.

Cardio Routine
20 minutes ellipitical
20 minutes stairclimb
20 minutes treadmill (interval training)

Breakfast
1/2 grapefruit
1 bowl cream of wheat cereal
2 medium cantaloupe wedges

Lunch
Turkey sandwich on wheat bread

Dinner
Whatever looks good.

THAT is so frigging fantastic! I wrote this in Cannon's diary, but I love these non scale related visuals that help us see the progress in concrete terms!

Dinner was a bust tonight. I ended up having 2 bowls of frosted mini wheats and some string beans with a banana. School food steals my sunshine away especially when it isn't delicious. I've got a grave yard shift tonight which means I'll be getting tons of work done. The only thing is that I'm going to have to get up early again because I also have to work at 8:30 in the morning that same day. Fun times. At least I'm almost free.

Good to be back

I'm free!!! I'm an official graduate as of yesterday. It was so much fun and I felt really good. I haven't been on here in a while but all and all my diet and the new exercise routine have been going well. I actually had to gain 5lbs in order to fit into the dress I had ordered. I was down to 175 but had to go back up to 180 because the dress was a bit too big, and there was no time to alter it or get a new one shipped all the way to Aurora. I've attached a few pics of the graduation ceremony. Just wanted to share it with everyone that was rooting me on. Summer has officially begun for me, and I'm working hard to get that beach body. I've got around 20lbs to lose to reach my August goal. So wish me luck.

It's so hard

I'm planning on going for a run today, but I've got to finish or should I say start unpacking. It's hard to figure out what you're going to do with 2 years worth of stuff. Oh well, if I don't go running as it's burning up here in NYC, I think I'll for a nice bike ride down the fulton mile. It should be fun. I've got tons planned for the summer. First things first, I'm joining a gym. It's actually a gym located inside of a recreational center, but it's affordable, and poor folks like me can't be too picky.

Exercise wise, I've cut back on cardio training, and now focus mainly on weight training. I've lost a lot of inches even though I've gained 5lbs. Well tomorrow starts my personal summer challenge. I've got a goal in mind of losing 20lbs in 3 months. I think it's totally doable. I've also got a reward set up for myself if I achieve the goal, I've a trip to Europe planned. I'm not sure where I'll go, but it'll be somewhere that I can show off all of the hard work I've put in. Alright then, I'm off to unpack.

:jump: CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATE!!!! :jump:

Just think if you can make it through the years of college & get that degree, you certainly can battle the bulge! Good luck on that 20lb in 3 month goal. I know you can do it.

& I think it would be an honor to be called a gym rat.. unfortunately I would have to join a gym... I'm still paying off my treadmill so that is not feasible at the moment.

Summer Challenge begins today

Thanks for the comments Moongoddess and Juliette. It feels so good to have actually done this and now that I no longer have to worry about school, I can focus a good portion of my time on working out and finding that thing called a job. Today is the start of my summer challenge. I'm going to have my brother take some before pics of me today and then take after shots once August is over. I'll be posting them up on my diary page to let you guys see my progress and to keep me motivated. I'm about to pop in one of the new exercise dvds my friend bought me as a graduation present. I'm thinking either the Tae-Bo or maybe the kickboxing and then I'll cool down with some ab workout stuff. I'm going bike riding again today with a friend and we'll be riding through Prospect Park. I'll get in a nice workout because I plan on riding my bike down to her place and then riding it back home. That's a little over 4 miles of riding for one day.

Breakfast
Yams w/beans

Lunch
Tuna on whole wheat

Dinner
I maybe too tired to get anything in once I get back from my riding expedition.
