Today, feeling much better..although I am stiff, but not disabled...my same old foot is hurting more than normal, so I will probably
Do some stretching yoga today, but no cardio. I ate a big breakfast and have to go to a Chinese family gathering today (Lantern festival...the last day of the year they can set off numerous fireworks and eat a special type of dumplingn for good luck and prosperity, and I'm sure there are some evil spirits they will shoo away too! Not sure exactly what I'm in for, but also sure a lot of food will be involved!
I weighed in today, and thought my scale would be wirelessly synching (but it still is not...for the record, this is the Aria wireless scale, made by the same company as fitbit...good concept to have them all talk to each other, but the scale doesn't want to talk much...so I'll just keep track the old fashioned way. Anyway, I weighed 170.9 with 35% bodyfat. I'm ok with that today...would love to be in the 160's...and I'll eventually get there, so I keep trudging on one day at a time. By the way, how do you change your signature block in this new forum setup? I've looked, but can't figure it out!

maryann Thanks for your encouragement! You are right, gotta keep training and I'll be able to do the marathon! I am thinking after this one, I'll probably focus on the 1/2 marathon from now on...I think that distance may be more suited to me (and my foot!). You too are doing great...it's good to share the journey with so many like minded people on here!

mrvee, I don't think I'll be saving too much gas...at least the type you put in your car! You are really doing well...amazing progress and also a lot of persistence! Keep it up!

Cory, I couldn't run 2 miles either when I started this journey, and I didn't run at all for probably the first year into the journey...then I was inspired by Katehuneybun on this forum to try it..and I started very slowly, and did a lot of walking, and have slowly worked my way up from there. I used to run when I was younger, but hadn't done it in a long time, so for me it was nice to get that part of my life back! Running is not for everybody, but it has been good for me...I would recommend walking a lot before you try to run though!

Well, all, have a great weekend, and I wish good choices to all!!

Sarah

Hey Sarah, I got a fitbit for Xmas, I loooove it. I've found it so motivational and has helped with keeping me losing regularly which is nice. I don't have the aria scales, and probably won't bother after what you've said.

Wen are you planning your Great Wall trip, what does it involve?

Hey anna.banana,
I love my fitbit too, and that's why I bought the scale...but the scale has not been nearly as reliable as the fitbit. If I were to do over again, I would buy a Withings scale...I've heard good things about them!

For the Great Wall marathon...it is actually a 26.1 mile (42km) race of which 32km is actually on the Great Wall of China. Some part of the wall are restored and relatively good running surfaces (steps, hills etc) and some parts are not (steps, but not even, trees etc)...I'm not sure what exactly possessed me to sign up for an entire marathon in those conditions...but I did so now, I'm committed! I'm actually looking forward to the adventure...just have to get alot more training. The actual race is 1 May 2013...about 9 weeks away!
Thanks Anna!!

Sarah

Hey Sarah-
hope the lantern festival is fun - you are getting to learn so much of the culture there...so neat
.. a "talking" scale - makes me picture an image of me in bathroom & scale saying my weight out-loud & me with horrified look-praying no-one is in ear shot,,, ha ha

- to modify your forum signature -
go to upper tool bar of this page - select forum actions, general settings , then on left tool bar- down in the My settings box- My profile section- select "edit signature" .

cheers ,

Wow that marathon sounds cool. Will it be a very hot time of year over there? I'm guessing you've run marathons before?

I've been adding jogging into my walking and it seems really effective for increasing fitness. I've been trying to do it slowly and methodically because i also have been having trouble with my foot.

Oh yeah you did an awesome job losing almost 100 lbs!! So wish I was 171 lbs. To be honest I look pretty decent when I am 200lbs (thanks to my height - lol) but that's still overweight for me. So to be in the healthy range I want to be 180.

I totally love how you embrace the life style. I am doing the same thing (with some interruptions here and there) - about 95% of the time I m really good - exactly how you said it:

it's not a race, it's a journey, and my body will find it's right weight as long as I continue to eat nutritious foods, very few processed foods, including sweets, no sodas(including no diet sodas), and low carbs (most carbs from vegetables, not breads or pastas)...and of course exercising every day!

Sarah

Well, happy Monday everyone! Mine is over...tough, long day, but productive! I took a break today on exercise because I just felt I had to recoup a little after the long run...glad I did. My foot is much better now, so I'll hit something again tomorrow morning! Eating is OK and I think I'm finally getting over the GI bug...no diarrhea either yesterday or today, so that's a positive sign!

Maryanne, I am learning all about the culture...but that doesn't mean I understand it!! Yesterday I ate more than I should...and the food was really good, authentic, home-cooked chinese and yummy. The big deal was that our first food item was this big round (about the size of the old jaw breaker candy...over 1" in diameter) fried sweet dumpling (inside of a rice dough outside was a peanut and fig inside...very sweet, but no processed sugar), then after that, we had some part of a pig's foot, then after that it was normal dumplings, vegetables, meats etc...) The round dumpling is supposed to represent the full moon and all the family is together eating dumplings as if we were all under the same full moon at the same time. More calories than I probably should have had yesterday, but hey, sometimes we just have to live life in the moment!

Anna.banana I'm pretty sure there will not be anything "cool" about this marathon (well maybe bragging rights!). This is going to be a gutter! I have done 1 marathon in my life back in 1999! (Paris, France..in 4h31 min)...weighing about what I weigh now, but that was a relatively flat course..the marathon on the Wall is nothing but steps, hills and 42km of whatever it can throw at me! I'm feeling better about it today (since I can walk normally again)! Good job on adding jogging to your walking routine...that's exactly the way I started back up running...a little bit at a time...very little bit!

Justina
Thanks for your kind encouragement...yes, I'm almost at the 100 pound lost mark...that's a big milestone for me and I feel certain I will make it within the next couple of weeks...20 months into my journey! You can get there too...but just remember, you have to let yourself take some time to do it...that doesn't mean you can cheat every day etc...it just means you have to keep putting 1 good day after the other and acting like the thinner, fitter person you want to be and eventually, eventually... you'll become that thinner, fitter person! Keep up the good work!

Good choices to all!

Sarah

Thanks Maryanne for helping me get my signature updated!! I would not have found that myself (and obviously I didn't!)

Glad to hear you working on your training for that GreatWall Marathon...it will be here before you know it- hope the weekend run is nice.

Good Sunday everyone! 3rd of March 2013...already! It's still cold here, but a little warmer..almost above freezing in the sun! I went for a run today, about 12k...it wasn't a "long run" weekend, so I think I'm ok with that distance. Next weekend...that's another story!
I went shopping yesterday (nothing new there!) and I was pleased that when I tried on the XXL chinese shirts, they were actually too big...so I went down to XL, and they fit great! A couple of the shirts are a little snug across the boobs, but, my history has been, I'll lose more there first anyway! I actually bought an outfit like what they had the manakin wearing...I don't think that has ever happened...ever in the US or France and certainly I
Not here in China! It's all spring and summer clothes, so I'm excited to have something to look forward to when it actually does get warmer!

Maryann, you are doing great girl! Fat2fit is really good, and good sound advice...real food giving good results for several of us! Keep up the good work !

Cory, yes...I'm so ready for Spring...but I know here it's at least a month away..we'll have some April snows if history is any indicator! We just deal with it and move on!

Keep up those good choices everyone! We are what we eat!

Sarah

Sarah, You are doing so well. I love your new photo in your exercise gear. You are being such a good example of what is possible & how much we can change our lives with a positive attitude & determination. High 5 sweets!! xoxo Cate
