Way to go Sarah, fitting in workouts and runs without knowing what country/timezone you're in is mighty impressive and glad to hear about the success slimming into a new size.

I couldn't imagine trying to drop weight with that kind of travel schedule.

AThanks everyone!
Well, I'm trying to get back in the swing of things...feeling really behind at work, and that's not good, or easy ! The rest of the year will be tough I'm afraid...3 more business trips, 2 of which are to the US, which will be long...buti'll make it...got to!
I think I've figured out what's aggravating my foot..it's the rowing machine of all things! When I pull back with my arms, it pulses my feet up and puts pressure on the arch, and yesterday, I did 30 min of the rower and my foot hurt all day, and I actually had to put ice on it last night...the ice really helps it. Today, I did 50 min just chugging along on the elliptical, and foot was fine. I think I'll add back the stairs again and hopefully prove to myself that they are not hurting the foot!

I've started having a protein snack during the day..I heard on a nutrition podcast that protein is good for a person 's mood..and it's also good for building muscle mass...so I thought a quick small snack of tuna would be a nice..it's actually pretty good!

I have not weighed in after the week long business trip..want to get somewhat unmet lagged before I do that..that plus I know I'm going to have to re setup my scale wifi and I just don't want to deal with that right now!

It's cold and wet here in Shenyang...almost ready to start my official marathon training..getting back into good shape...not great yet, but good! When I'm under the Army weight standards and able to max the physical fitness test, and have good glucose, cholesterol and other bloodworm as good...then I'll consider myself in great shape...still got a little ways to go...and I 'm ok with that!

That's about it for today..good choices to all!

Sarah

Oh that's so great you figured out what what aggrevating your foot. Who would have guest the rowing machine!!

Do you have a plan that you are going to follow for the marathon training? My parents have done 7 marathons and have tried a lot of different ones if you want a suggestion.

Training and completing a marathon is quite a task and very impressive!! I've never had that goal. I've completed multiple half marathons but the idea of 26.2 miles...just doesn't interest me, but does impress me!

Best of luck during all your travels!!

Hi Sarah - I'm glad that you figured out the foot issue - now you can focus on your Marathon training ( it is suprising that it was the rowing machine... )

Back to stairs sounds good - get those legs nice & strong for that Great wall !

~ all those business trips will be a challenge for exercise & eating - but as you have told me - just be sure to plan-ahead - as long as you have an plan in mind- you can do it- ..... & maybe all those hotels will have stair-wells....then U could do lots of stairs while on business trips. ??....

~ happy "jet-lag" recovery ( such an excitiing life you have these days gal - adventures.... and U are so much more up to all the travel - with the slimmer/fitter body you've now got...) ! :hug2:

Cheers Sarah - happy Upcoming Marath.training,

Maryann .

AThanks PEC and MaryannC!,
Yes, I think I did finally figure out the foot deal..I took a rest day today (I was out late last night at a dinner and then I knew I would be walking the construction site today so I took a day off of the fitness center routine...I slept all the night through, so I'm finally starting to feel inject lagged again!). I will run in the park over the weekend and that will be the final test for my foot!
Business trips are a challenge...no doubt about it..and some months I just break even on the weight..which is not so bad after gaining little by little all those years! And yes, Maryann, I'm sure all the hotels have steps..but so far I haven't tried that! Good advice !

I will weigh and take measurements this weekend..not sure what the scale will say...since I haven't really been hitting the exercise heavy, but it is what it is today...and if I need to tighten up, I'll do it!
One day at a time!
Sarah

Sorry to hear that the foot is still sore but glad to hear you're narrowing down the cause. Might be time to get reacquainted with that hotel elliptical contraption?

Good luck on the run this weekend but watch out for the foot and stop if it shows any sign that it's not healed. I think pushing through my last run is to blame for for the trouble I've been having with my knee so please be careful getting back into running.

Hey Sarah - glad to hear the jet lag is improved,

- hope your foot behaves for you this weekend's run - the joy of middle-age "parts"- the mind is willing & stong - but those darn body parts start to give us some static...lol.

th_Jogging.jpg
And I am sure your weigh-in will be fine - you have grown so wise with your weight and body - and with all the success under your belt - you are totally up to "adjusting" things as needed.

I agree with you that break-even is a great goal for travel/eating out stretches.... if we'd all had the skill of break-even - none of us would be where we're at facing the hard-work of losing extra weight....

Hope you have a great day ,

cheers,

Maryann

AWell, weigh in showed up 3 pounds :-(. I'm sure part due to TOM and business trips and not so much exercise...good news is, my %body fat is hanging in around 33% so i may be gaining muscle mass...at any rate, I'll have to hit it this week. Started off good this morning and went for a run..15k today and while my foot hurts a little, it's not as hurt as it was last week, so I will ice it up tonight and keep it elevated and rest! (RICE) Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
I will do something tomorrow, but not sure what..not rowing!
Good choices to all, and have a great weekend!

Sarah

Hi Sarah - sorry to hear 'bout 3lbs up - not too bad considered- travel++ , that TOM water retn. , & it sounds like MUSCLE is other part - U are Gaining muscle ! ( that's why U are looking so fit in you more recent photo...)- when did you last check your measurements?...'cause you sure look smaller in your picture....

Glad to hear your foot behaved not too bad-
th_foot.gif
Good work on 15 K run !

hope you have a good work-out tomorrow & Healthy eats...and keep truckin' - "HIT IT" this week - now you are back to your home-base in China - & on your trail to that GreatWall milestone...

cheers,

Maryann

AThanks Maryann and feeling gooder!
Well, my foot is better now...still not perfect, but much better ! I have resumed doing steps and I've also started doing some yoga...it is only about 10min and some more on the weekend, and I'm starting to be able to tell a slight difference in my flexibility, which I have found suffers when I run. I did my measurements this past weekend and my waist and hips are about the same, and bust is still shrinking! :-/. I'm feeling pretty good about where I am right now, and I know I will eventually get to my goal...it's just taking a long time! I know...listen to my own advice..it's a journey not a race!

Good choices to all!

Sarah

Hey Sarah - glad to hear the foot is getting better& you are getting on the stairs again ..

The yoga sounds fun !
7_5_144.gif
...anything that can improve flexibility is well worth it ( I think I might have a yoga DVD - will have to dig it out & give it a shot)....my bones feel pretty creaky some days....

I hear ya on the "pace" of the "race" Gal ..... definately slower losing after 50yo- does take LOts of patience..... BUT - at least we still CAN lose...

...when I am feeling a bit frustrated & impatient..... I try to think about people facing things they can't change ( illness, disability, trauma).... when we think our fate / genetics is a challenge - keeps perspective to think a bit on what some folks have to face in life....

- last weekend at the Guide-dog fundraiser I attended - one speaker was a young lady in her late 20's- who had perfect vision until a rare-condition robbed her of 90% of her sight - and yet she tarries on ( with lots of love and support from her family , friends & guide dog).... if someone like her can carry-on , her chin-up, make best of what life has given her....makes our work on calorie control and more exercise not seem so hard.....

cheers Sarah - you inspire us all ....and as you say - your own advice ..U will get there ...one good choice at a time....and time will come when you arrive at happy hill-top of your journey.....

sorry-. (duplicate of above post - sheesh -computers....)

cheers,

Maryann C.

Hi Sarah, I hope your foot gets better soon. Yoga & Tai Chi are wonderful. I am much more flexible since doing TC. I love it. It's good to mix stuff up to maintain your enthusiasm. It is a hard slog but the rewards are so high that it's worth it. You're only human wanting it to be quicker. I will always struggle to maintain my weight & I know that, but I still have days when I wish it was different. It's not that I want to eat rubbish, just not have to be so obsessive. Oh well. I'm grateful for being so healthy and happy! Sorry I have been absent lately, xoxo Cate .

AHey Maryann and Cate and Brawney!
Thanks for your reinforcement! I'm doing ok today...it's Saturday morning and I'm just taking it easy..cold and rainy here in Northeast China today, so , I'll go to the fitness center later today..just had to recuperate after a very long week at work..I've got to go on another business trip to Shanghai this coming week, and then when I get back from that, I'll almost just turn around and have to go to the US and Canada (Nova Scotia) mid November, and then some very intense business meetings here in China and one more trip to the US in December...at this point, reality is staring me right in the face, and looking for break even and continued fitness from now to the end of the year...my official marathon training schedule starts next week...I should be ok on that because I'm actually ahead of schedule on that..and I think I have a 1/2 marathon picked out to run in the US when I'm there in December. It's actually keeping me motivated now and at least somewhat focused. I am really enjoying the yoga I'm doing now...so good to stretch my body and try to get some flexibility back..thanks for the encouragement Cate! 15 minutes/day isn't a lot, but it is what I can manage right now and it is very calming for me..something I need right now in my life!

In my work, I'm responsible for building a factory, staffing it, etc... And we're now at the phase of starting to install the machines, getting all the people trained abroad (that's why my travel is so hectic), getting experts moved in here etc....coming into crunch time, and in the past I would have used all of these conditions to look for comfort food...now, because I've lost 90+ pounds, I have the energy to pull this off without having a major Heath problem (mental or physical)! I'm grateful for that, and I will continue on my journey...I'm just on an extended hill right now, and progress may be slow...and today...today, I'm ok with that.
Thanks for allowing me to ramble today... I may not be around a lot right now, but do know I continue to read your posts and I'll do my best to keep up in your diaries too!

Good choices to all!
Sarah

Hey ya'll, Just thought I'd make good on a statement I made a little while back...here are some recent photos in my taylor made's...

Going to work on Monday morning...if you don't feel great...fake it until you make it by at least looking good!

The special thing about this outfit is that I bought the blouse off the rack here in China...size XXL at the UNIQLO store (a Japanese store...even smaller sizes than China)

Even though I've still got about pounds to go to reach my goal, I still feel good about myself today...and that's a big change from 18 months ago!

Good choices to you all!

Sarah

Thanks for the photos Sarah. You are looking very slim! Well done!! Being able to buy tailor made clothing anywhere in Asia is pretty special! You have such a high powered job & cope with it very well, obviously. I think it's great that you have shifted your focus on not just being good at your job, but also becoming more healthy & getting fitter. Well done Sarah! You continue to be an inspiration, xo Cate.

Hi Sarah

as Cate says - U look great in the photos! slim & fit ( not recognizable as same lady from your before pics... )(94 lbs- so hard to even imagine it - that's over 4 of 20lb.sacks of flour- a shopping-cart Full - gone from you... was a lot of work-over many many months- but just look how far you've come... )

~ wow - U sure have a lot of travel coming up with work ( Shanghi, USA, Canada - ) - you will be busy - wise to plan for weight-maintain & fitness-improve -

( I was at a conference in Halifax NovoScotia in 2009- lovely rugged East-coast Canada- if you get a chance- worth seeing Peggy's Cove (near Halifax) , the local lobster is yummy, Bay of Fundy -some of the highest tides in the world-, and downtown Halifax-Sat.mornings- near Alex.Keiths' brewery- lovely Farmer's market - really fun & Brewery tour is fun too- bit of history & they give out "samples"...)( I'll be back at East-Coast Canada this upcoming June ( pharmacy conference) - Charlottetown, PEI. - luv it.

~ the 1/2 Marathon in US in Dec. sounds fun - is it a charity run ?

...glad to hear your weight-loss & fittness has made you stronger for your work these days - huge responsibility building/staffing a factory - amazing lady you are !

keep on your "hill" Sarah - such a good direction you are travelling - so happy for you that you are on this good hill now - :p ( far better than the "old" hill eh ? )

( and am happy to be a "fellow marcher" with you

cheers,

Maryann

Sarah

You look so skinny!

Super, super super!

Take a moment and reflect on how you felt 2 years ago and how you feel now? How far could you run then? Your taylor then was Omar the tent maker!
