Hit the fitness center this morning and did 60 min on eliptical for 821 cal + 15 min on treadmill for 150 cal + 5 min on rowing machine for 20 cal...somewhere around 1000 cal (guilt from eating too much last night at the company dinner!). Today, it's cold and sunny here in Shenyang...staying in!

I definitely need to steal some of your gym determination!!!! lol! Seems like I'm always coming up with reasons not to go. I've went twice this week and will definitely go on Sunday becomes I don't want to sit at home all day.

I think I'm going to treat myself to chinese food on Sunday. It's been awhile and I really do love it. I'm sure it will be terrible for me and not as good as the chinese food your eating IN China, lol.

Went to the gym and did a nice liesurely workout (i love that type of workout)...60 min on the eliptical for 789 cal (while listening to Chinese lessons...never burn alot of calories while trying to learn Chinese). then 30 min on the treadmill for 300 cal + 15 min on rowing machine for 100 cal...then a few repetitions on the weight machine and then to the shower to go to breakfast.

Breakfast was slim pickins today...5 slices bacon + 2 eggs + muslix...just could stomach some of the veggetable offerings today! It's cold and sunny here in Shenyang..no big plans for today, just relaxing and probably going to watch a movie at home (yesterday, we watched "It's a Wonderful life" (always good when you're feeling down) and today, I'm thinking "White Christmas"...trying to get in the spirit here in China!

By the way Munch, my motivation comes from habit and routine and sometimes guilt...I would highly recommend the habit and routine thing...the guilt..not so much!

Just added some pictures to the gallery...1 part "bad" and "ugly" (where it all started) and 6 parts "good" motivation...(1 for each month I've been on this journey). I plan to post an update around the 1st of each month (assuming I can find that area again!) so that I can see for my own eyes what others have been and are currently seeing! I'd give a link, but I don't know how...if you go to Gallery, you can see an album called "weight loss progress" and see a fat lady in a red chinese jacket (that's me) and you can see a photo a month. As the old saying goes "never know how you look until you get your picture took"! Ain't it the sad/happy truth!

Saw your pictures Sarah, Oh my God, I am sooooooooooooo impressed!!! You're doing a fantastic job, you're my role model now! :)

here's the link by the way:

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Issakova...not sure I'm up for role-modelness, but I'm happy if it helps you!

Yesterday, I got inspired by "frogged" and went to the fitness center 2 times, so instead of my normal 1 hr on the eliptical , I actually did 1hr + 1 hr for about 1600 cal...really cranked it out...then today, I felt the consequences...my ankle was a little sore, but I continued through it and did my normal 1 hr for 804 cal.

Then today, I had a big breakfast sauteed cabbage, stewed green beans, leafy green veggies, sauteed eggplant, 4 slices bacon, 2 fried eggs, muslix...it all tasted good to me today! Lunch was fried rice, broiled chicken, chinese stirfried vegetables. Dinner: none

For the next 2 weeks, I'm hoping to catch up at work, actually come home at a decent hour and maybe I'll have dinner some nights because alot of people are already gone for the holidays..hopefully that translates into a lighter workload!

So today, like every other day in a while...I hit the fitness center for 1 hr eliptical and cranked out 798 cal (chinese lessons multi-tasking again) and then had breakfast of 4 slices of bacon, 2 fried eggs, sauteed eggplant, pork& veggies and some leafy green veggie I still don't know what it is! Today I stopped the muslix because I heard someone say that the "grains" are the culprit for a plateau...so I substituted with a mix of walnuts, dried cranberries and a few small pieces of hard white cheese.

Lunch was fried rice, chinese veggies and sweet & sour pork and 3 tiny mandarin oranges (God those things are good!)

Dinner: hot green tea (the longer I'm here in China, the more I really appreciate a good hot green tea...tastes nothing like "green tea" in the US!

So, just when I say "just like every other day", today, I just didn't have it in me to hit the fitness center..spent part of the night on the toilet and just didn't have the energy to hit it this morning...so I'll go for it again tomorrow.

Breakfast was normal...2 fried eggs, 4 slices bacon, stir-fried cabbage, soya & pork and walnuts, cranberries and swiss cheese mix.

Lunch: stirfried pork, chinese veggies and fried rice.

Dinner: Hot green tea.

Thanks Munch, I'm back now...when back to gym today and did my normal 1 hr on eliptical for 840 cal . Breakfast, 2 fried eggs, 3 slices bacon, sauteed eggplant, walnuts/cranberries/cheese mix. Lunch: sweet & sour pork, fried rice, chinese veggies. Dinner (before 6:pm) 2 thin slices chicken filet + 2 thin slices beef, mushroom salad and fried rice.

Got new glasses today...trying to get used to them!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas scbibhouse!

I was at the gym yesterday and wasn't feeling like running. So I hopped on the elliptical for I think about 30 mins. I thought of you! I was pretty tired after 30 mins, but would like to work my way up to an hour at some point.

Thank you Munch! Way to go on the eliptical!! I know what you mean about working your way up...I certainly didn't startout doing 60 minutes on that darn thing!

I'm getting ready to go now to the gym...I needed some motivation this morning...and as usual, I found it here! Thanks!

Merry Christmas Sarah!! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas day and I'd love to continue this journey with you in the new year!

Merry Christmas to everyone here on the Forum! It's Christmas day here in China and it's reallycold (the computer says -2F outside right now...and judging by the pollution and all the coal-fired burners going on, I'd say it's right...really cold!) Grateful today I live in a hotel with a fitness center on the 3rd floor and I have absolutely no excuse not to use it!

Thanks Issakova I'll be on the journey in 2012...and probably afterwards...it's very rewarding here I find!

This morning, I got up, hit the gym and did my 1 hour on the eliptical for 840 cal then a few minutes on the rowing machine to get my back good and stretched out. Breakfast was 2 fried eggs, sauteed chicken, sauteed beef, leafy green veggies, and my walnut, cheese and dried cranberry mix. Then a big glass of soda water and some hot green tea.

Tonight, we are having a dinner in our apartment for the "Christmas orphans" that I work with here in China...Salmon, steak, steam veggetables, rice and fruit plate and a "normal" desert for anyone who wants the calories...the best part about this is that the hotel chef and his team come and set the table, prepare the food and clean up...and all we have to do is show up and invite our friends...of course we have to pay for it!! But it will be good to get together with friends...and not have to get all worked up!

So , the dinner went off well! Even though it was after 6, for Christmas, I made an exception! I ate my portions...but didn't over do it (and I'm very proud of that!) Hors d'ouevres: 3 smoked salmon & egg on a thin slice of italian bread, Appetizer: broiled tomato with stuffed goat cheese, Main course: Grilled Salmon & beef tenderloin, brocoli, mashed potatoes & gravy and sauteed mushrooms and asperagus, Desert: (I didn't eat the black forest cake...I stayed with fresh fruit)...16 guests...and they all seemed to leave happy and full! Not your traditional Christmas meal, but very good none the less. Now the apartment is cleaned up, some extra chocolates still sitting around (but I hope to take those to work tomorrow to get them out of here!)

Back to work tomorrow, and before that...hitting the gym!

Today, didn't get up as planned, so only got to do 45 min on eliptical for650 cal (if I remember right!). Breakfast, 2 eggs, sauteed pork, sauteed eggplant, stirfried cabbage, and my normal walnut, dried cranberry and swiss cheese mix. Lunch I had fried rice, eggfu yung (without the sauce) and some boiled chicken. Dinner; none, hot green tea.

I'll weigh myself on the 1st of January...sometimes I think I'll see good news...sometimes, I'm not so sure. I do know my pants are looser than they were in Brazil, so that's always a good sign!

Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas Sarah! I'm so happy! I had a great time as well, but I definitely didn't do as well food wise. I gave in an indulged, a lot, lol. Back to the gym for me tomorrow!

Hey Munch, I know about the indulgences...so far, I've kept the gym...but gotta take it up a notch...I seem to be plateauing...

Today, got back into the early morning groove and did 1 hr on the eliptical for 840 cal. Then breakfast was 2 fried eggs, 3 slices bacon, stirfried pork, and my normal walnuts, dried cranberries and cheese mix. Lunch was some smoked pork and cheese (my dear husband fixes my lunch and this time, for whatever reason, loaded it up with boiled potatoes...enough carbs to float me...so I ate a few of them, and threw the others out), topped off by 3 fresh tiny mandarin oranges (love those little buggers!) Dinner a few grams of salted peanuts and hot tea. Still a little hungry as I write this, but it will pass.

I did the ellipitical again today. Whew! I don't know how you manage and hour on that thing. I was getting bored after 20 minutes. Stuck it out for thirty though. What settings/ resistance do you like to use?

Hey Munch,

The key to non boredom on the eliptical is the ipod! I have several "up beat" music selection playlists in 1 hr, 30 min and 15 min time lengths each, so I just crank it up and don't stop until the music stops! Other days, I have a 30 min language lesson (also on the ipod) and it keeps my mind occupied. I use the "random" exercise routine at a resistance of 13...every month I try to increase by 1 level (as I lose weight, I increase resistance). Typically during the 1 hour, I will switch it up and go backwards for a few minutes at a time. For whatever reason, I go faster when I'm going backwards and when it's really tough on the resistance, I let my arms get a good workout by having them pull the load!

Today, I did my 1 hr for 840 cal, then breakfast was sauteed eggplant, 2 fried eggs, sauteed pork and some stirfried chinese cabbage. Lunch: sweet & sour pork, fried rice and 3 baby mandarin oranges.

Dinner: (after 6) was a company function (not sure what all I ate...big lazy susan chinese style dinner..some mutton (which I don't really like) some type of sweet potato and some snow peas..didn't eat much...had to do several toasts (I don't drink), so they gave me peach juice...it was good, but I'm sure it was full of sugar...duty, honor, company...the bad news is that I have 5 more of these dinners to go to...argghh!

Tomorrow is a short day, then off Friday...woohooo...a 4 day weekend coming up...liesurely exercises here I come!
