Sam's from Chunk to Hunk Journal :)

I think I missed the dinner party epi. If it's from this season I probably did, as I missed a lot of it.

I am pretty sure that a 27" waist is for women. That would be awfully small for a 6'2" guy. My H is med to fine boned, and his ideal is 30" and he's 3.5" shorter than you.

Your work schedule is crazy. However, you'll be in excellent practice for a nurse's shedule, eh? :D

Thats what i keep telling myself about this schedule though... I don't really like working overnite that much. This week has kinda made me feel like shit. I'm kind of tired and I think all the off hours has made me breakout on my face a little bit :( Wadaya do... I'm happy about all the money though. I have Gay Pride here next weekend and I will have more than enough dough to play with, pay my part of the rent and still have a bunch to throw at my credit card bill... Life is good I guess :)

Planning on getting to the gym tonite after work, since I slept clear till 1pm today I don't think my body will let me go to sleep very early tonite... So, I'm thinking if I go exhaust myself at the gym, come home and take a hot shower, and then lay down I will get a great night of sleep...

Happy Thursday errbody,
Sam

Still trying to figure the overnights out, huh? I've been doing this rotating shift thing for about 20 years now. Every shift has something different about how you handle the sleep thing.

I was on a 7-7 with an hour commute each way. Coffee on the way in, then nothing. Midnight-8AM, no coffee at all. Then there was the worst: Mid-4AM, off 4-8AM, then 8AM till 4PM, off one hour, then 5-5:30. That was a different situation. Not normal. I did that one for about 5 years. That was coffee NEVER. Alway had to be ready for a cat nap.

You'll figure it out. If you start the nursing gig, you'll probably have lots of overnights.

What's the schedule like next week? Will you have time to kick your workouts into high gear for the weekend? I imagine that it'll be just that much better this year now that you've dropped the weight and bulked up a bit. Have fun.

Believe it or not next week my schedule is pretty normal, like it should be. It will be M-Thursday 12pm-10pm, then I get Fri, Sat., Sun. off... I'm just covering for multiple people this week and I have a hard time saying "no" to sickies, lol... Plus, I get peace of mind knowing I have good Karma;) The shit will really hit the fan though when they won't cover for me though... They will, I kid. I don't take many days off from work though, I occasionally rearrange my schedule so that I can accomodate something that come up but for the most part I am constantly working 40-60 hours per week, and during some weeks in June and July that number will be over 60 probably. We'll have to see. Working this much keeps me outta trouble usually too ;)

Your shifts sound crazy Trops. That one where you have to take catnaps during the day with no coffee sounds like torture. I honestly don't think I could handle that. I can barely handle switching between nights and days in one week...

-Sam

Oh, I don't do that now. I did that when I was young and greedy for money. :piggy:

Now my schedule is pretty regular. Mid-8Am for 6 days, then 2 days off. 4PM-Mid for 6 days, then 2 days off, then 8AM-4PM for 6 days, then 2 days off. If someone gets sick or vacation coverage, you do a double shift. It's not that bad. I plan on doing this for the next 15-20 years no problem.

That 12-10PM shift is cake. You get home and get some good sleep. Get up early and you have all kinds of things you can get done. Good workout week next week. Go you. I have that this week and I'm killing it. Feels good. Next week will be a little tougher, but I'll manage.

Hey Sam, thought I'd stop by and say hi since you were so nice to visit my progress pics page. :)
Looks like you have a CRAZY schedule and you're still managing to get into shape! Saw your pics... not bad, not bad! ;)
I'm going to have to skim through your journal a little and catch up but just wanted to say hi... oh and we live very close to each other! SWEET! LOL

Thanks Paula :)

Yep, I'm here in SLC... That's cool that your lclose by. I always feel like I'm talking to people on here who mostly live back East, or in Texas, or Canada, :), so it's nice to have a neighbor close by. You don't live in UT do you?

-Sam

That's good you have a better schedule next week. I think it would be hard to do that all the time.

Hope your plan to tire yourself out worked..lol. :)

I don't know how you go from days to nights & back... I am a bear if I don't get my sleep in. End up just passing out anyway, which would stink at work. Like today, I am hating myself for not going to see the midnight Sex & the City showing with a few friends, but I had already had a long stressful day at work & was exhausted. I was asleep by 10pm. Ug. I miss the days of staying up til 3 am, even when nothing was going on, & then sleeping til 10 am & functioning just fine. Its like I hit 30 & >:BAM:< now I NEED sleep. argh. Oh well. ...at the moment the caffeine needs to kick in or I will be sleeping again.

Its like I hit 30 & >:BAM:< now I NEED sleep.

Yeah. Getting old sucks. I remember getting right ripped every Thursday night. Out drinking until the bar kicked us out at 2am, walking home while eating some street meat or poutine, passing out in my bed by 4am, alarm going off 3 hours later... up, shower, eat, hit the road and at work by 8:30.

Now I can barely get up in the morning when I get a solid 8 hours. It's true that youth is wasted on the young. :D

I know. When did I lose the ability to get up & no, even with a killer hangover? Now I just drag for no reason.

Maybe I need more practice, but then I remember where about half my weight probably came from.... all the alcohol & the late night munchies!

I feel like my body is getting older too. I'm not one who is a very happy camper if I lose out on too much sleep, so if I do end up going out I 99% of the time plan it on a night when I don't have to go to work and actually function the next day. A few years ago I was much different... I have friends right now that go out and get drunk every damn night, and work good jobs and that is just their life. I couldn't imagine that. A few of my friends are what I would definitely consider alcoholics, and it's sad. I've had alcoholism tear my family apart and I can't watch it hurt my friends, so I've distanced myself from a couple friends in particular, and it saddens me. I grew up with it with my mother and it eventually killed her. I do still drink occasionally but it's mostly beer and red wine. I can't really do hard alcohol anymore, and I don't. I have way too many bad memories of it (me, family, friends...) so I usually don't partake in the hard stuff...

Got my car worked on today and the bill came out to 1200 dollars... Yikes but luckily with all of the overtime I've been getting lately it will be manageable I think... My car drives like new though :) I had to get all new struts and shocks and then I found out my rear suspension was basically cracked in half... So now its fixed and I'm in the hole... Wadaya do? I should just start sleeping at work and cut that whole commute out, right ;)?

Happy Friday to everyone, and have a great weekend :)

-Sam

I definitely don't party like I used to either..lol. From age 23-28 I drank like a fish nearly every night and got up early and went to work the next day. Things gradually slowed down in my late 20s. I can still stay up until 5am..lmao, but I don't drink much anymore, and definitely need my sleep--even if it's a nap at some point during the day. :D

That sucks about your car costing so much, Sam. Hopefully it'll be good to go for awhile now. $1200 is pretty steep! Good you got in all that overtime, like you said. But where is the karma?? :)

Sorry to hear about your mom. My maternal gran did the same thing. Drank and smoked herself to death before she hit 60. My mom was barely 19 when she lost her mom, and 12 when her dad died. Luckily she had a lot of older siblings. Being orphaned that young must've been hard. It sounds like you and your brothers and dad have a good relationship, so that's good. :)

:banghead: My Pistons are out. The damn Celtics came back from being down by 8. :cuss:

I'm right there with ya on the sleepin' part... Good to hear your car is working great now... sucks that it cost so much.
Hope you have a great weekend! :)

I have Gay Pride here next weekend and I will have more than enough dough to play with, pay my part of the rent and still have a bunch to throw at my credit card bill... Life is good I guess :)
Sam

We have Gay Pride here too (In San Francisco). I was in the parade a few times even! lol I wont say for what float, but it was a blast. If you want to see a bunch of hunky men partially clothed, Gay Pride is the place to be. I'm a straight female, but have always found gay men to make excellent companions. What other guy is going to go with you to a Madonna concert and pay $350!! LOL Sorry, I am off on a tangent here. I hope your pride is fabulous!! Good job on the 9lb loss so far, excellent work!!

Thanks you guys. I'm going to a concert this upcoming Weds. in Park City... I'm going with my BFF Celestia and the concert isn't someone I necessarily want to see... I'm more going for the atomosphere and to have a couple beers or something... She is also having a gay guy from her work come with is BFF and a couple of our other friends. She really wants me to meet this gay at her work, she thinks we will hit it off...:)

Went to the gym today and did 30 minutes on the crosstrainer and 25 minutes of running intervals on the treadmill. Not bad. I have some clothes I really really want to be able to get into pronto, so I'm planning to seriously make the month of June as productive as I can with the gym and eating better.

I got this whitening toothpaste called SuperSmile and all I have to say is that it is working great, and i can clearly see a difference after only like 3 days :D

-Sam

I should try that toothpaste. I use CrestWhite Strips and they work great, but my teeth get so sensitive!

Good luck at your concert. I hope you have a great time even though you don't like the band. I can't wait to hear if you hit it off with him! I have to imagine it's somewhat tough to find openly gay people in SLC?? DH grew up there and some of the kids were hard on him because he wasn't Mormon. Who knows, hopefully it's different as an adult :)

Nice job on the exercise. :)

Here's hoping you enjoy a few beers at the concert and hit it off with that guy. May he be cute, interesting and nice. :beerchug:

Wow! Thats funny. I do the same machines when I work out! LOL Usually an hour divided between the elliptical and the treadmill.

You can totally make June a good month for loss, I plan on it too, since I am taking vacation near the end of the month. Let's get busy!!!

Got to keep it short, trying to get madonna tickets! Whoo hoo!! Have a good day!
