Sam's from Chunk to Hunk Journal :)

Hey Kimberly,

I'm actually very fortunate to be able to keep the job I already have, which pays decently and has lots and lots of downtime to study. I could probably study 5-6 hours a day when I work if I need to. My school schedule and work schedule will be flexible enough and hopefully I will still be able to get a good 35-40hrs a week in at work... Gotta pay the bills, right? Working full time and going to school full time... I always knew it was going to happen but wasn't quite sure when. I know I can do it, it'll be tough. There are people that do it and live to tell about it tho... right?

-Sam

Yup, it sounds like you've got it all worked out. That's great that your job is so flexible that you'll be able to study while you work. So it's a 4yr course for an RN, right? Or is it 5? Either way, when you're done, you'll be able to get a job no matter where you live, and make good $$ as well. I know you'll make a great nurse--especially b/c you'll have a good bedside manner--and that is a great thing in a nurse or doctor. :)

Congrats on getting into nursing school. That is one tough place to be!

I saw your before/after pics, lookin' good! Keep it up. I also just noticed your ticker, you've only got .7 lbs to go to get to goal! Awesome.

Of course it's not even a plural # at that point. ;)

The RN course I am doing is only 2 years, thru the Community College in my city. I then have the option of doing some more school at a 4 year university, probably UofU or Weber State to get my BSN. Right now I'm fine with just having the 2 year degree and being an RN. From what I have heard you can make just as much money as a BSN holding RN, except when it comes to management postions and such. Thats just what I have heard. I know I can still do okay as a 2 yr RN... Getting the full BSN might be something I do later on down the line....

I guess I do have it all kind of figured out. I love having thing set in stone and feeling safe and secure. It's my major thing I guess. I just really need to focus on the things that I can control and not what I can't...

Managing school and work is tough (especially nursing school- I've got a buddy in nursing school that vents about it all the time to me). I've worked part time throughout most of school, and looking back I see so many mistakes I made. You probably already know this, but I would say the key to managing a busy schedule is just consistency and routine. That concept works with almost anything, but especially when you are "booked" 7 days a week.

A stupid thing I did last summer was that I decided I would totally ignore my health when I entered graduate school to just get through it. That was the opposite of what I should have done. Not only did I gain a bunch of weight, but my energy level dropped because I was so unhealthy, thus further inhibiting the required brain activity to be 100% successful in studies. You've got the right attitude though. So many people say "next year" when they should be saying "bring it on, right now." Good luck, man.

That's cool--2yrs is way better than 4 or 5...lol. So I'm assuming you already have a degree, so do any of those credits transfer? I have no idea how that works.

How does that saying go? "God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference." :D Sounds like you've got it down. :)

I think the program sounds great. Plus depending on where you end up getting a job, they may cover the cost (or at least partially cover, which helps) of going ahead with the BSN.

Look at what you can accomplish when you really want it...nice body, nursing program.. what next? :)

Thanks you guys :)

I got all my prerequisites done awhile ago for this Nursing Program, so I guess I probably have the equivalent to a 2yr degree in generals or something. Bottom line, I spent a lot of time just taking classes because I didn't know what I wanted to do. I've always been interested in the Health Sciences field, and so I looked into Nursing and decided it was probably where I would best fit in and be able to use the degree and make a decent living...

Went to the gym today, finally... I've had a serious lack of motivation lately and haven't been going as much as I should, or keeping up with my running. Shame on me :( However, I did weigh myself today and I'm offically down to 210lbs... I don't know how I managed to pull that one off, lol... I will take it though.

Not too much else new, working overnite tonite and tomorrow nite... I've been watching "The Office" lately when I am bored at work. That show is seriously funny and I'm glad I finally discovered it. My friend who had the Gastric Bypass surgery a few weeks ago is down almost 50lbs already!!! She's doing great and I'm very happy for her :)

Well, I'm off to catch up with everyone's diary!

-Sam

Congrats on getting to the gym and getting to 210! :hurray:

I love The Office. It's hilarious. I've heard the original British version is even funnier. Which season are you watching?

Thanks Kimberly :)

I'm just watching Season 4 right now. My little bro got me into it. I will have to go back and watch the earlier seasons eventually. It's so crazy that you can basically watch whatever you want online... I might have to watch the British version eventually too.

Season 4 is the one that just finished, isn't it? I can't remember..lol. What a load of characters they all are. Dwight cracks me up--well, they all do. :D

Hey Sam!!! Long time no see. Congrats on deciding on the Nursing program and hitting 210 officially.

I haven't been doing so great working out or eating lately so I'm a bit behind. :(( So, I've got some catching up to do. I have no idea how, but going home to moms always seems to effect me so badly because she has full fat foods, junk/candy and my favorite of course and she makes such good food.

I think I constantly had a spoon or fork in my mouth with something on it while I was there. sigh. At any rate, I have to get back down to my low and then push lower here.

I hope you are doing well with working out these last day or two. Take Care!

Hey Tasha! Great to have you back. Don't feel too bad about the little break you took. I've been the same way. The gym just hasn't been something I've been doing enough of lately... I'm working on it tho. Back to running I tell myself. We can do it! :)

Thanks Tasha :)

Where do I begin... This week has been pretty weird already.. My work schedule is seriously out of control this week... Here is a glimpse into my life, lol..

Sunday-work overnite 7-7
Monday-work overnite 7-7
Tuesday-off but spent it sleeping to flip my body back to dayshifts
Wednesday-work day 10am-midnight...
Thursday-taking the morning off, then work 4pm-10pm
Friday-finally a day off where I don't have to worry about when to sleep...
Saturday-work overnite 7-7
Sunday-off but spend sleep to flip body to dayshifts
Monday- work Noon-10pm......................

So i go from nights to days to nights to days all over the course of one week. Its out of control... My body and mind are doing alright so far but, it's just because I'm so adamant about my sleep. The gym hasn't been visited and I feel guilty about it. I gotta get there but, when?...

I just did this calculator thing that I noticed in other peoples' diaries...

Greek Proportions Calculator
Wrist Size: 6.5 inches

Your ideal body measurements are:
Chest Size: 39.0 (40.25)
Forearm Size: 11.3
Waist Size: 27.3 (36.25)
Thigh Size: 20.7 (22.75)
Hip Size: 33.2
Calf Size: 13.3 (14)
Biceps Size: 14.0 (12) LoL
Neck Size: 14.4 (14.75)

I don't know if that calculator is just meant for women or what.... I can't imagine having a waist that is 27'', and I'm 6'2''!!! My wrists and hands are small, I've always known that. My wrists are 6.5 inches, which I guess means that my ideal body type/shape is bean-pole, LOL... Some parts of my body are more "ideal" than others though it seems. We'll see what happens as I lose more weight I guess.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

-Sam

Hey, Sammy

Just catching up on your diary. I got lots of reading to do here. I work a rotating shift, too. It really sucks. I'm dealing, but I find that the overnights just suck any gains that I might have made. Have you been seeing that? Can't get through it yet, but I will.

Anyway, back to the reading. :)

Hi ya Sammy. :)

Thanks for visiting my J. ;)

:svengo: SS RE: your hours.. :svengo:

My hubby works 7PM - 7AM at a printing co. (for ads - catalogs - some magazines.)

When he's off, his sleep routine is all out of wack.

I also call him a vampire bc he doesn't like the day/sunshine very much. :biggrinjester:

He has worked nights since he was old enough to work..

In fact, that's how we met over 17 years ago..lol

He stocked the shelves at Skaggs grocery store and I was the night checker.

:D

*Hang in there sweetie.* :hug2:

I hope you have a Goal Reachin' Thursday!

I think I missed the dinner party epi. If it's from this season I probably did, as I missed a lot of it.

I am pretty sure that a 27" waist is for women. That would be awfully small for a 6'2" guy. My H is med to fine boned, and his ideal is 30" and he's 3.5" shorter than you.

Your work schedule is crazy. However, you'll be in excellent practice for a nurse's shedule, eh? :D
