Ryan's Journal

More PB's today...of sorts.

Good stuff. My pull up have nearly always felt easy, climbing background. Until this week anyway. Taking away the bench makes the same effect as going from machines to free weights, you'll love it.

If you have a decathlon there or similar they sell gymnastics shoes which are basically cloth and the thinest slither of plastic underneath. Cost virtually nothing and worth briliantly, grip but no cushioning and only take you a few millimetres off the ground. I think the brand is domyos, but there will be plenty of equivilants.

Gymnastics shoes are profoundly difficult to find any trace of online in Australia. It's turning out that wrestling
shoes are also playing hide and go seek, and more expensive elsewhere than previously indicated, anyway. I don't like the looks of this. I have a pair of deadlift slippers, but they're uncomfortable and I hate them.

Quick google search of gymnastic shoes australia on google.co.uk came up with amco and they had some at $20, no idea if that is a lot of not. Google is good as is amazon etc.
I have a spare set but expect postage would be more than they are worth and doubt you are my size.
I take it decathlon stores don't exist over there.

I've had a look at amco. Unfortunately, they're located roughly 1,500km away, which is a long way to go for cheap shoes. Granted, I could just order shoes and have them sent out to me, but I'm not willing to buy shoes that I haven't worn first. Right now, it's actually looking like buying overpriced deadlift shoes might actually be the most practical decision :(

Be worth finding out where there is a gymnastics class nearby, the chances are the teacher there will know where these can be purchased.
I remember that was the only way I could get ballet shoes.
At least it wasn't as bad as when I was trying to find a class and asked about enrolling a male student to be asked where he was. Beard wasn't enough was my initial thought, until they said that they only had classes for boys up to 8 years old.

Turns out my suspicions regarding my actual number of squat reps vs my intended number were correct. I'm thankful that I was wrong about deadlifts, and get a full 3x10 rather than 10/10/9.

Glad your training is going so well. Is there a competition scheduled or are you just looking out to the horizon?

I'm tempted to be a jerk by just answering with a "yes." But I'll forego that for now. There's a competition on the 1st of December. I'm looking forward to it, as it'll be a chance for me to meet a lifter who I've known online for a while but am yet to meet in person. If progress on my 10RM is any indicator of what my 1RM will be (for something like deadlifts, where the main thing holding back my 10RM is the fact that I spent years never going above 5 reps, this may not be a helpful indicator at all), I could be looking at a deadlift of close to 200kg in competition. I think in about 3 weeks time I'll start peaking.
