Hi All,

I am going to start a weight loss diary in order to get more strict with my diet and exercise regime.

I am going to start my diary from tomorrow (even though I have been going for about a month already). Below are some questions which I stole off Holly88's diary which I thought was a good way to start my diary (thanks Holly88!).

The reason why I want to lose weight: I was always a thin person up until I started University. Since then I have become a heavy drinker, not very active, and generally unhappier compared to when I was younger.

I see weight loss as a way of getting my mojo back!

So here are the questions...
- How much weight do you want to lose?
20kg or 44lbs.
Will make my end weight about 73-75kg

- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
March next year, before football season starts.

- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Low carb plus a lot of aerobic exercise to get me fit for footy.
I will do a lot of running and swimming with 2 times a week of weights.

- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
My family and I am doing this pretty much on my own, not with any gym buddy or running partner.
Hence I am going to use this forum for support.

- How realistic is your goal?
Realistic as I can be stubborn and are pretty determined when I want to achieve something. That was the trigger for me to lose weight, when I realised that if I am so stubborn about most of my opinions on politics, religion, arts etc why cant I be stubborn about my diet and exercise regime?

- When will you start?
Ive already started about a month ago but I am thinking of turning up the regime as I am going to Spring Racing carnival for the Melbourne Cup in November and want to look good (better than I do now) for it .

thanks for the encouragement Holly88, Sunflower and ImmortalVampire!

Day 1:

Breakfast-skipped. I usually skip breakfast or have a late to fill me up but Im staying off milk on my diet so drank a pint of water.

Lunch - small chicken and garden salad (250gm) and small chicken and avacado salad (250gm)

Dinner - a 150gm "thin" hamburger pattie (the rest of my family was having hamburgers) with some tomato, cheese and lettuce on the side.

Drank about 1.5L of water after dinner (over the course of a couple of hours).

Exercise: jogged for 45mins straight (about 6.5km) before dinner. Made it back home before the rain started

Was a good day but feeling a bit peckish now (about 9.20pm). Must hold on...

Have some cucumber or celery on hold for those night-time snacks! I've just eaten a whole cucumber and I'm stufffffed!

Day 2:

Breakfast- had a late with no sugar (400mL) cause I was hungry, probably from the night before.

Lunch - 1/4 roast chicken and salad. 1 coke zero.

Dinner - a couple of snags (100gm) , a kangaroo steak (200gm), and a couple of rissoles (australian hamburgers 100gm).

Exercise: Swam 2km (probably was 2.1km with some miss counted laps) in about 40mins. About to head to the gym for some weights for about 40-45mins or so.

I dunno whether I am eating too much though. I am pretty much eating a high protein and low carbs diet (probably only 100gm of carbs today at most) and at a guess I would have consumed around 2500 - 3000kJ.

On the other hand, I have minimised sugar except from a small amount in the milk of the late and the salads plus, by the time I get home from gym, I would have done about 1.5 to 2hrs of exercise.

Do you reckon I need to cut back on the calories still? I am a 26yo male weighing about 93kg so I think that means I burn about 10,000kJ just through daily activities...

I don't think you'd need to eat less than that, you could probably afford a bit more. I'm not convinced that keeping the proportion of carbs low makes much difference as opposed to keeping calorie intake low, although concentrating on keeping ther carbs low does rule out a lot of high calorie snack food. More important than having the perfect efficient diet, is to have an adequate diet that you can stick to till next March. A little more fruit and fibre wouldn't hurt, but, IMO, there's not a heap wrong with what you described so far, if you are happy with it.

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my diary :) It looks like we have almost the same amount of weight to lose. I hope we'll both make it in time to enjoy next summer!

Good luck with your journey and see you around! :D

just a quick update as I am knackered.

didnt do too well yesterday - it was my sisters bday dinner so I ate a lot of chinese food and the first bit of rice for about a month. Managed to stay away from the alcohol though. Unfortunately didnt get any exercise done.

Today I ate alright, chicken and salad for lunch and steak for dinner. Also managed to do a pb run around my street circuit which I was happy about. Most likely cause of rest from the day before.

Anyhow, I will get around to posting and commenting a bit more tomorrow if I have some time, otherwise I wont be around until sunday posting cause I am going away for satdy.

have a great weekend everyone! ciao!

man, a couple of bad days in a row now.

On friday was doing well up until after swimming on friday night. I managed to swim 2km so was feeling pretty good with myself but the went to a mates place and had 3 beers and some pizza. I managed to not pig out too much.

yesterday I went up to my parents weekend house. I managed to get a good 8km run in before I went up but for lunch I had a couple of hot dogs and had a chocolate bar. Then came back home last night and got pretty dunk (as drunk as I have been in the last 3 mths) watching the footy with my good mate. I had a couple of beers (only two) and a footlong subway for dinner. I also drank about 4 or 5 martinis (which isnt too bad as it has low carbs I suppose).

So I need a really big week to get back on track after the last couple of days.

Next satdy is the Aussie Rules grand final and generally that is one of the biggest party weekends of the year in Australia. I have planned to go around to my brothers place and make pizza all day in oven. Also a couple of my mates from the country will be in town and they like to drink beer so I can see myself getting out of control next satdy. I suppose I have to aim for sun-friday outweighing (for lack of a better word) next satdy.....

have started the week well with some chicken and salad for lunch, about 100gm of peanuts and 100gm of almonds throughout the afternoon and just come back from a 6.5km run in good (for me) time, 45mins.

Too bad I am about to head out for dinner with some mates from uni at a pub. I will restrict myself to one beer and may have to go the steak with salad for dinner...

another good day.

100g of peanuts and 100g of almonds throughout the day.
Lunch was some chicken and avocado salad and chicken and green salad.
Dinner was a steak.

exercise was 2km of swimming (straight through freestyle at moderate pace (40ish minutes).

Sounds like you had a really healthy day (well.. besides the apparent lack of fruits >.<), you deserve a treat!

ImVam - I have given up fruit for a while, I love it but too much. They are full of sugar and for a while I was eating a lot of fruit (6-8 serves a day) and wasn't losing weight. The reason was the sugar (in my opinion).

I'm getting plenty of vitamins from the salad and I also take vitamin supplement tablets.

Another 100gm of peanuts and almonds in the morning (is good to keep hunger away until lunch).
Lunch was some salad (greek, ceasar, coleslaw) and yiros meat with a little garlic sauce.
Dinner was a 300gm steak and some butter chicken (only the chicken with a little sauce).

Exercise was my jogging circuit, about 6.5km, and I managed a pb.

Still dont look like I am losing anything but the run felt good. Havent weighed myself for about 8 days now and will do it tomorrow but my waist has actually gotten slightly larger (by 1cm) since last week. Dunno why as I have been eating pretty well and doing a bit of exercise...

50gm of peanuts and almonds each.
lunch was yiros meat and salad (greek, ceasar, and tabouli).
dinner was a steak.

exercise was about 7km run in good time.

My mum also said to me "I think I should call you skinny"!
I thought it was pretty funny as I have only lost about 2-3kg and plan on losing about another 20kg!

She didnt believe me when I told her I was 90kg though...

Hey Roy
You can find the challenges in the Diet and Motivation section, in a sub section called Club Challenges.

I've signed up for the October weight loss challenge.

To sign up you just do a reply in that thread and copy and past the weekly weigh in stuff into your reply, You need to come up with your own goal.

you should do it!

Don't worry about not seeing any difference yet, it takes some time. The first time I lost weight I noticed it only after 5-6 kgs, even if you feel better sooner than that. Keep up the good work!

You can do it!! You seem very determined, definately going to follow your journey and encourage you!! Everyone has bad days, I know I do, but we make up for it by keep loosing weight!!
