Hopefully, you won't need surgery. You are doing well with your diet & exercise & that should hold you in good stead for any medical procedure.

Felt groggy this afternoon and evening. Heard back about the ultrasound results. I have a hydrocele. Next step is to meet with urologist. May have to have it removed.

The good news is that the procedure to remove looks to be a straight forward one.

Thanks cate and Trusylver. I hope it works out sooner. I'm concerned about what could be causing it. Might be a bigger issue going on and surgery may only temporarily relieve it.

I ate more last night. Ate some carrots with some almond butter. Probably overdid it a little on the almond butter. Probably don't need more than a teaspoon or so to help absorb more of the nutrients in the carrots.

Overcooked the tuna but it was delicious anyway. I wonder about toxins I'm ingesting. The salmon I eat is farm raised and the tuna today was wild caught.

Any kind of large ocean fish is going to have a lot of heavy metals so you shouldn´t have them too often. And farm-raised fish are often contaminated with antibiotics. But there´s nothing wrong with having them occasionally.

What would you say is “too often”? And how often is “occasionally”?

Hey Rob, I eat a lot of fish, for many years mostly eating what we caught in the Gulf of Mexico, grouper, cobia, redfish, sea trout, mackerel, oysters, shrimp, crab, etc. Since moving inland to Utah its mostly store bought now, like you mostly tuna and salmon. It hasn't killed me yet, though this observation may not be the best guidance.

You can find a lot of info online about this, just do a Google search. Here is a link as an example (if they allow the link to stay) Eating Fish: Health Benefits and Risks this comes from a pretty well respected medical journal, to quote: "Overall, the health benefits of eating fish greatly outweigh the potential risks—especially when guidelines are used to reduce the small chance of being affected by these risks."

Thanks, Rob and LaMaria. LaMaria, I found that helpful. I was looking for specific numbers and it seems I may be eating a little too much fish. The mercury thing scares the crap out of me but I'm overly sensitive sometimes. :frown: The FDA released similar information for pregnant women and children (Eating Fish: What Pregnant Women and Parents Should Know) but general population recommendations seem harder to find. I didn't spend a lot of time looking and will cynically assume some national ocean fish lobbying group battled against them or maybe there's not enough evidence or they're just further down below in the Google search results.

The link I posted before is a bit of a hodgepodge but numbers for grown men do come up further down in the post.

Rob, I share your concerns a few days back about the rate of your weight loss and the potential impact on your mental health down the line. Weight loss itself can feel almost like an addiction and if you hit a plateau it can be really mentally difficult, and you'll want to be careful to make sure you always get appropriate nutrients to keep yourself healthy regardless. Maybe also think about other forms of self-care you can engage in? Whether that's getting support from a partner, developing a skill, or just taking time for yourself to think about your goals and reflect on your success and what you are grateful for? Mental well-being is very important and neglecting it can impact your physical and social health and so many aspects of your life. Super happy about all of your progress, but definitely want to make sure you are taking care of yourself!

myleanbaby, Thank you. I love this post. Mental health during weight loss (and in general) is not addressed well imo. The additional stress you're placing on your body can take a mental toll for sure. But there are other aspects such as dealing with a new self image and experiencing life differently. In my experience, it's largely just developing an awareness and knowing what to do about it. It helps me to meditate and just be aware and share my thoughts on it. There'll be ups and downs but if you can normalize some of it, it'll make it more tolerable. Nutrition definitely helps keep my mood even and the stress manageable. There are situations and people I avoid that can exacerbate things but again there, most of the battle is recognizing those effects and learning how to not place myself at greater risk.
