Rewind - lost 180lb, regained 55 over time, heading back!

Hi Liz sounds an amazing feat losing the weight you lost. reading your og post seems to me you my have done a simlair thing that I did to my knees. I had hardly done any exercise for years and then I started training entered for a marathon but I think I must have trained to hard and ended up injuring my knees to a point were I could barely walk. that was three years ago I to put weight back on but what I have done this time is to do very small amounts of exercise like walking cycling etc and just built it up very slowly. Its amazing how quick it starts feeling better . The key is to take it really slowly and when you know you have bad knees dont feel bad that your only doing light exercise on them because it all adds up Good luck and stay well

Youch that sounds bad, only difference is that i was very active until i did my knees in, what did it was the weights i was lifting in the gym. The first time i injured my knee though it was just a twist earlier in the year.
Anyway its feeling heaps better now with all the rest - despite driving me crazy being inactive.
Also loosing the weight fine despite not doing any exercise much. I rode my bike to work today however, but very gently. Hopefully its not too much for the old knees.

Hey Liz

Good idea on taking the bike to the parade. Sounds like a nightmare... but also fun.

Isn't it great now that we are having some real summer weather. I can't wait to move out to the country (assuming the sale works out for us), the new place has a pond that we can jump in on hot days.

Do you bbq on xmas day? or have a sit down xmas dinner.

:) anna

Sometimes we do BBQ, sometimes roast, sometimes just cold cuts on the table (ham, salad etc). The good thing is that its usually healthy so no major.
There are a lot in our family, i have 4 kids, plus hubby and me, and we usually do the big family thing with my husbands family every other year.

Husband is 1 of 10 kids, every single one of those 10 is married now and has kids, so you can imagine there is a very large group eating.
So you can imagine there is very rarely a sit down dinner, but more of a smorgasboard and everyone brings a plate.
When its just us though, it can be anything. In saying that, its my oldest sons birthday on Xmas day, hes 19 this year, so we do stuff for that also.

As far as diet is going, not to bad. Had a worrisome time yesterday, i biked to work ok, but realized that today was 1 of a 3 part xmas do. The whole office went to play golf at 2pm. Due to my bad knees atm i decided i was going to be the chauffeur and spent most of the afternoon/evening doing donuts and skids up and down the golf course.
Whilst fun, it really was hard to stick to eating every 2 hours, i ended up missing a meal which i made up a little later. I couldn't drink much because there were no toilets handy, and the golf course was a rabbit warren/maze.
I did get tempted by the beers that people were drinking (yeah i know, drinking and driving in gold carts) and had half a beer. That half a beer had so much impact due to lack of drinking and diet i never finished it (thats why it was a half!)

Anyway despite fun and antics diet was ok in the end. Exercise was a bonus, cycling to work gently was ok, today i cycle home (left my bike at work yesterday).

Today i got my very first Student Loan, im super happy about it! I'm finally going to become a Personal Trainer! Of course I have to do it part time in the evenings, so it will take me some time (a good few months), but the overall goal is achieved.
I do not plan to have this as my major job, but a part time hobby/backup skill, its just something i always wanted to do since i lost the initial amount of weight.

Congrats Wishes! I think the best PT's would be the ones who have been there and can really understand. You'll be fantastic!
The parade must have been a serious challenge! There's nothing worse than having to whizz and there's no toots around. 7 hours is a long time to hold on :leaving: lol
Your Christmas gatherings sound great! I don't have a big family, so the biggest I've been to would have been about 20 people and that includes some friends :) We're the opposite this year, just me, Hubby and our 2 kids! Smallest Christmas lunch/dinner ever!
Well done on dropping another pound too

Congrats on losing another lb!

Sounds like you've had a hectic week... how do you hold on without toilets for so long! Lol! I'm one of those people that need to go to the loo every few hours - no way could I last 7 hours!

Congrats on starting the PT course :) I reckon you'd be a great PT - it's always nice to have someone who's been there and understands.

Snap! you guys said the same thing lol - twins seperated at birth?

Went to my first PT lesson tonight, was sweet! loved it! :D

Haha I think the spiders are making their home in my diary... It's been a difficult weight loss week for me,,, been fun though :)

Doh! that sucks.

I usually check the latest updated diaries or ones ive subscribed too, but sometimes run outta time myself.

I'm heading down your way in January (9th-14th) if you want to catch up for a coffee or more!
i get a week away from kids! im totally excited! This is like the first real time away together me and hubby have had since we got married, so really can't wait!

What are good things in chch to see/do ?

Coffee sounds good, I'll check my diary for when I'm working that week :)

There is so much to see in chch. Will you have a car? A trip over to Akaroa harbour is great. THe city itself is lovely, and you can catch the tram around to see everything (and the damaged buildings too :( ) I'll have to keep thinking of the must see stuff.

anna

No car sorry! but we should be able to either hire one or use public transport.

Weighed in and had lost another kg - totally stoked! Seems to come off in chunks overnight. No loss for days, then 1kg just gone overnight.

Went swimming yesterday, thought i would be able to do that without hurting my knees more, but it still hurt after an hour. I managed a good 4 lengths swimming plus playtime with the kids before then though. Ice on the knees is a good thing!

We finally got rain in the last few days, about time! Everything is in drought mode here and grass was pretty darned dead.

Hey wishes :) Thought I'd come by and see your new journal. I have a bad knee as well from a car accident. Half of my knee cap is actually gone and the other part had to be wired back together and the screws and wire are still there. I also have a plate in my hip and hardware from hip to knee from 6 femur fractures in the same accident. The doctor told me I couldn't run but when I had lost about 80lbs years ago I tried it. I got great results on the track but the pain in my knee and leg finally put a stop to it. Now I'm so big even walking long distances is a struggle. I figured for now I could start strength training and keeping track of my food. In the past though even though I was heavy I always had endurance to exercise so its frustrating now. If you discover anything that works please let me know.

Ouchie thats nasty! I find cycling is a great sport for bad knees, even if its just a slow cycle for a good couple of hours it seems to help

That is FANTASTIC!!! Great job Wishes! Wait till you really get going :)

Well, my goal was to loose 4lb a week, but i didn't think i would actually achieve it since the body often does things its own way.
I went over my diet repeatedly making sure i got the right amount of everything before i even started, and repeatedly each week.
I don't expect I'll be able to maintain that kinda loss, but its a good way to start! and i always like to set the bar high for myself :D

Still, totally dancing in the halls though!!!

6kg in a month is awesome hun! You're doing so well!!! Don't worry about not being able to keep it up eventually, focus on the now, and cross that bridge when it comes :)

Congratz wishes! I'm not surprised at all though. You've conquered this battle before and will again. Alot of athletes go through this recovering from sports injuries. I still see you as a pro at this that I can come to for advice. Great that we're all gonna be well in gear bringing in the new year :) zomg a rhyme....I'm gonna stop now :X
