Radiant's Diary

Hey, RP. It is good to see you back. I have also been ignoring this site and my body for a while and was disappointed when I stepped on the scale just a minute ago. I am sorry to hear that you have had such a rough couple of months with school, your knee, and now your grandpa. I have full confidence that you will be able to get things worked out for you.

Take care. I am sure you can get those baby steps going. :)

:) Thanks Jason!

I got on the scale again today and it was down from yesterday, so I guess I don't really have a good idea of my "average" weight right now because I fluctuate so much every day anyway. I'll wait until tomorrow and see what my scale says.

And being sick sucks!

Ugh. I had Chinese for dinner :( my weakness.

The rest of the day was fairly healthy.. I was on track calorie-wise. I got really edge for a snack this afternoon, caved, went down stairs to the vending machine, but at least I got pop corn instead of skittles or something :( Ugh. But yea, then one of my friends had a huge breakdown and needed to eat Chinese (it's what we do when we go through trauma) so I went with her, then we went to a movie (where I didn't eat any junk!!!) But yeah, ugh, Chinese.

I'm going to at least get as much water as I should so that the day isn't a total loss :(

I woke up too late for breakfast today :( I always feel bad skipping meals. I had an early lunch (around 11) though, so that was nice. I had a quesadilla, refried beans, and an iced tea. Fairly ok.

I'm volunteering at a middle school music festival as a judge tonight, which should be REALLY fun. They are buying us dinner at 8 tonight, so I have no idea what I'll end up eating, hopefully not Chinese haha.

Doing the music judging at the middle school was SO MUCH FUN!!! It took about four hours, and my buddy and I had the busiest scheduled room, but it was certainly worth it. After we were done, they took us to dinner at a place called Fresco's which is a little hole in the wall Italian spot. It was prettttyy tempting as we just had huge family size things brought to us. I kept myself to one piece of bread, one serving of salad, and I tried three of the pastas (there were more than that on the table, so I felt good about that). After that, some people wanted to go for ice cream, so I went along. We went to Cold Stone, and I ordered one of the small cups, but I barely ate half and just let the rest melt while I socialized with people. I was really proud of myself for stopping half way through that! I know all ice cream isn't bad, but I had already had a pretty filling dinner, plus Cold Stone ice cream is not by any means the best kind of ice cream you can have!

My weight just seems to be all over the place... however more often than not, it is going down. I'm now back below 200 which is neat, but I haven't honestly been exercising and I feel like I haven't been eating well.

Maybe just being aware of watching how much I eat (even if it isn't the best stuff for me) has gotten me back on the right track. Hm, yeah, I'll go with that. Haha. Three more weeks of stress and school, then I'm going to get a gym membership as I won't have the dorms anymore. That also means I won't have dorm food, so rock on there.

Today has been pretty good so far. I ate a healthy breakfast and lunch. Went to physical therapy and got a new routine for my knee to work on three days a week, so it'll be nice to add a bit of variety in that way. Went to the grocery story after physical therapy and was so happy with myself. I bought sushi, salad, mushrooms to snack on, organic tomato soup, and a pretty healthy salad dressing. Yay for me.

So for dinner I had some of that yummy sushi I bought earlier. My calorie tracker says I'm at 1756 cals for today. Ugh that is weird again. I am going to have to get used to planning out my days to better meet my specific calorie goals. Actually, I need to look into what my specific calorie goals need to be again anyway. I'll be off to do that after this post.

So my new physical therapy routine consists of:

Fifteen minutes of warm up: either bike, elliptical, or walking on the tread mill. I tend to do elliptical because I am comfortable on it, and I feel like I get the most exercise for my time!

They have me doing a triplex, which is basically three groups of three exercises. I'll repeat the groups two to three times depending on how difficult they are for me, then move onto the next group.

Triplex 1 consists of:
1. Bulgarian Squats. 12 on each leg.
2. High Forward Step Ups. Something between a 12 - 16 inch step with my knee following through but not touching the high platform. 12 on each leg.
3. Jump rope alternating feet for 1 minute. (Hurts so bad because of my knee :( )

Triplex 2 consists of:
1. Walking Forward Lunges. Doing these with a 5lb weight, rotating my body as I go down. 10 on each leg.
2. Single leg wall ball squats. 10 on each leg.
3. Woodchops. 5-8lb weight swung overhead to between knees at at least a 90 degree angle. Continually for 1 minute. (These are really hard because I tend to rely on my right leg and have to concentrate on putting weight on my left.)

Triplex 3 consists of:
1. Single Leg Dead Lifts. 5lbs in each hand, 10 on each leg. (Balance issues here!)
2. Lateral Band Kicks. I have this band I put around my ankle and kick my leg out. 30 - 40 on each leg.
3. Lateral Heel Taps. On a 4-6 inch block. 15 on each leg.

So I did my warm up and went through my triplex only doing each thing once today. Next time I'll bump it up to two.

Radiant you are in One-derland! That is a huge step! Congrats! (I only saw it now, so you may have been there for months on end, in any case I wwants to say congrats!), Camy
P/s: I just read through the entirety of your diary (what not wanting to study gets me to do ;)), and I think it is awesome that you lost any weight with that nasty operation and not being able to properly walk for so long! Good luck!

So today was pretty good. I am like 50 cals below my goal, so go me. Didn't get to go to the gym, however I walked across campus about four more times than usual. Haha. That's what happens when you forget things in your dorm room. Tuesdays suck because I have a rehersal from 7:30 - 8:30, then my gym closes at 10 so I hate being there once it gets late. (By the time I can really get ready to go, it's past 9). Ick.

Not gonna lie- was freakishly excited to see someone else from Montana in here, lol. Your physical therapy guys have you on one hell of a workout! Thats good tho- I can always get more done with someone telling me to do it rather than picking and choosing exercises.
Anyway, have a great day tomorrow :)

Yeah, same here. Except I don't actually go to the physical therapy gym anymore, so I'm back to trying to get my motivation together myself haha. But I know I have to at least get the knee exercises in for my surgery. My friends I used to exercise with go to a different gym now or else don't go at all. Pfft. Lameos haha.

So, I picked up a key to the weight room on my way into the dorms today, now I just have to get my motivation to change and actually go down there, haha. My tummy doesn't feel great right now so I think I'll change, drink 10oz of water, then wait a few minutes to see if I'm feeling better.

Cals right now are at 995 for the day. I had to guess on quite a few things I ate like usually.. because of being int he dorms. I used to guess really high just to make sure I didn't go over, but I don't want to deprive myself of my cals either. I'm trying to eat breakfasts (generally cereal and/or yogurt) in my room so I can measure out exactly what I'm getting. Lunch and dinner get more expensive and a little harder to do that in the dorms though, so I mainly have to guess. *Sigh* three more weeks!

Urgh, I hate all the "Lost 18 lbs in 4 days" and "Lost 9 lbs. Every 11 days by Following These 10 Simple Rules" adds at the bottom of the pages. I want to spit at them. Spit all my fat out of my stomach at them. Growl.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: I LIKE YOU! LOL...Dude, I get you! Here we are trying NOT to take the crash diet route! So you're in college? I was too until recently. Oh My God, it is SO hard to keep on track in college with pizza and beer EVERYWHERE! No, really..everywhere. I once found a pizza box with a slice in it in my laundry basket, courtesy of my former roommate.

By the way, that triplex thingie? INSANE. Keep up the good work, girl. We can do it!

Haha, Carrie. I like me too! :smilielol5: I'm a sophomore studying music education... so count in social events after concerts, late night rehersals, and all that too! I order pizza quite a bit, eek! But it's fine so long as I don't eat the whole thing.. that's why I have a fridge. I just have to put it away haha. Mmmmm pizza and beeeerrrr. But in your laundry basket!? Pfft. There better have been a beer in there as well :)

The triplex thing is really intense. I can't do it two times through everything yet.. but it's there to build my muscles. She also switched me to this plan because I told her I was trying to lose weight, so this is supposed to keep my heart rate up and has more cardio than before (with the jump rope and whatnot :) ) I went through the routine one time today and that was pleantttyyyyy. My knee will be sore today and tomorrow.. but a good sore.

What did you do to your knee? Seems like everyones been getting knee injuries. Really embarrassing, but a coupla years ago I was a littttttle intoxicated, slipped in a puddle of water, and tore my MCL. Ouchhh. You fall once and the dr.'s look at ya like your a drunk or something! lol... I won't be doing that again. My knee still gets stiff. Bleh.

Hi! Just thought I'd stop by and check you out. :D

Is 199 your starting weight? Just trying to figure out how much you've lost so far. :)

Did you have the knee surgery already?

Surprisingly, I never had much trouble with my weight in college until my final semester. I guess I did enough walking around campus to keep things under control, b/c I didn't really watch what I ate, and I drank a fair bit on the weekends. And I certainly never went to the gym. Once I moved away from campus I started driving more and walking less, and gained about 20lbs. Oh, and eating lots of peanut butter and chocolate didn't help either. :p But once I hit 30, holy moly, did the weight start packing on. I think it was mainly b/c I was very unhappy and a bit depressed for several years, and had a terriblely unhealthy lifestyle as a result. The good thing is that you are getting things under control at a young age so that you won't have to deal with this later and wish you'd done it years ago like I'm currently wishing. :smilielol5:

Heya, thanks for stopping in :) I had three surgeries on my knee this past December. I've had a dislocating kneecap for nine years that has prevented me from doing a lot, so I got that fixed and it's put me basically out of doing ANYTHING.. even WALKING correctly for months.

That'll teach you to be drunk :p haha, but yeah, tearing things is no fun! Did you do any physical therapy after that? They can generally help with stiffness and whatnot.

Thanks for dropping in! And yeah, I had my surgery this past December. I was actually a member here and down to 191 when I went into surgery, then I put back on my weight (starting at 200 originally) then escalated up to 208 by the time I could restart here a week or so ago. So I'm basically back to where I started the first time.

My weight has been slowly creeping up on me for years, and I finally decided that I wasn't okay with it anymore while in college. The eating plans here make it hard too and I think that put me into the final kicker. I have always had a problem with self image and was actually taken to the hospital and told that I needed to eat and whatnot (I had a bulimia spurt that I still sometimes struggle with.. but now more on the binging and throwing up, which I haven't done for the past like two yearssss) but yeah. Even when I was being taken in, told I was underweight, I really saw myself as a huuuuuge person. So it's a constant struggle to not under/over eat, not purge, and get into a healthy lifestyle. My goal this time is to document it so well that I know I am making a change and see face on that I'm looking better.

So cals for the day were at 2050ish. I forget the exact number, but I had to guesstimate on a bunch of stuff so that is probably high. I should probably have a string cheese to make sure I'm getting enough. Hmmmm I'm exhausted. G'night.

Today is okay so far. My cals are below 1000 right now, so I should probably have a snack. I just went down to exercise and my knee hurts so bad :( all I did was the elliptical for half an hour. Oh well, at least it was something.

Sorry your knee is giving ya so many probs :( that sucks for sure. Hope this weeks workouts work better for you!
