Rachie's Diary

Howdy Rachie,
Wow your diary is a 'WORKOUT" you are doing really awesome with running and hitting the gym...Your so close to your goal
I wish I were close but it seems so far still.I hope you have a wonderful
weekend,Tammy:)

You're doing an awesome job Rachie. All that running, and then the gym on top of it -- way to go! Have a great weekend.

Afternoon and congrats on reaching the 130's :) You must be feeling great!

You should do a 10k - you run and are fast and can run 10k! I insist you run a 10k, right now! haha, seriously though you should find a local one :D I am keeping my fingers crossed that the weather isn't too hot for that day, I like cool days for running :)

My body is definitely getting more toned. My belly which is my problem area is kinda bloated right now but I have been noticing that I am a lot more toned recently. I could crack walnuts between my butt checks - no just kidding... I tried though... kidding....again.... !! haha. My arms and shoulders are not small but they are strong and I notice my lower back is beginning to get toned which I think is a good indicator that my love handles might be shrinking a bit! It's nice to notice difference. I am hoping that next week I'll see another drop. Since aunt flow last visited my 5-day average went down all but on 4 occasions when it plateaued and 3 days previous to my period when it slowly went up to where it is now. So... I am ready to kick it up a notch and push into the 120's!!

Thank you--and I am going to start looking for a 10K to run. Yesterday I took my skinny friend (about my height, but 119 lbs  ) running. The girl is depressed and out of shape--she wants me to help motivate her and I did, and we talked about deep, emo stuff, and afterward she said the run really lifted her spirits. I'm glad for her and we're going to do it again! I reminded her that exercise does so much for our minds, too! Anyway, we were running on those soft turfs at UCSC--and it was WEIRD running on flat land. Wow, I tried to sprint a 1/4 mile and my throat was sore form breathing hard! I realized my body had grown accustomed to trail running. If I want to place at a race, I need to practice sprints on flat land. So I will go up to the track more often, and start timing myself. Bummer, because being alone in the beautiful woods is a lot nicer than having to watch out for fellow runners on a skinny track.

LOL with the nut cracking jokes! :) Glad you're more toned--I notice my body gets bloated just before the weight drops. I bet you 5 cyber-dollars that you'll see 129 within 1 to two weeks. I have my fngers crossed!!! :D

I'm with CG on that one. I'd say you'll be out of the 130s by the end of the month! I'm sending good wishes your way.
Reading your diary has actually made me start thinking about running a 10k. There are a few in my city each year. One is called the Tely 10, and I'm interested in running it. I'm not quite good enough yet, but if I keep running, I'm sure I can get good enough! Think I should go for it?

Good morning all :) I'm just sipping some coffee and thinking about my practice runing route this afternoon :) It's a beautiful day out there so I am looking forward to it!

M2M - thanks - I have trouble breaking below the weight I am now but I am trying hard to hope to get there soon!

Tammy - thanks for stopping by :) You are doing great, keep up the hard work and you'll soon be much closer to your goal. Hope your weekend was wonderful too.

Tom - thanks for the support :) I am trying hard. I do fall off the wagon sometimes and have to make myself push harder instead of just going through the motions. I am pushing myself quite hard at the moment but wish I had more time to fit in more weight sessions etc. I'll get there though, it's a learning curve for sure.

Hi Curvie :) You really do sound like a kick-ass runner and I think you'll do great in any race. Glad you helped out your friend - that's really sweet. That's funny that you found the flat land harder than the trails. You shouldn't give the forest running up though, that sounds like heaven!!! Running in beautiful settings is definitely even better for the soul :)

Thanks for the support - I like the cyber-dollar monetary system :D I like having muscle, it makes me feel so much better. I know someone at my gym that lifts weights that are way too low and she has these string-cheese arms which are gross to me! I like muscle and definition and being able to pick up heavy things without worrying my arms will snap! haha.

Keep those fingers crossed for me lady but I'll be working hard to make sure I see 129 soon!!!

Sunnydee - hey there how are you?! You should definitely think about the 10k, it's been good to give me things to work towards. I really like having goals weight-wise and for exercise and the 10k I do here is really fun. Lots of bands and people supporting you - it's a feel-good race :D Thanks for the good wishes and good luck with your running!

Ahhh Rachie,
You are inspiring me to find a 10K!
I backed out of the half marathon I was going to do in January, and I've been regretting it ever since!

Have a great run and it's awesome that you like muscle definition! Weight training really helps me lose fat--I'm sure it will make you a hard-body ;) The cyber-bet still stands: 129 in a few weeks or less!

I think the 10k I want to run is in August. So that's plenty of time to get ready. I don't know if I should go for it or not. Maybe I'll give myself another 2 months to make up my mind.
You're doing great! Have a good run today.

oh sunnydee go for it girlie ! :)
we should all do one.
hope you are okay rachiebabe .. is that weight dropping off still?:p

Yay! I will make everyone run races!!! You will be able to do a 10k easy and your speed has increased so much M2M - go for it!

I think you are right about the weight training and losing fat - I want to lose the last of my "spare tire" around my middle :)

I know what you meant about time to make your mind up. I'd try building up your outdoor running so you know whether you'll feel okay doing it. Then you'll know for sure in a couple of months but won't be starting from scratch :) You can do it though!!! I'm sure you'll kick some 10k butt!

Hi Sophie! Weight loss has stopped for a week as it's that time of month :) But I am hoping it'll start again, I was doing well!

Well I picked the worst time of the day to go running :( I am not a warm-weather runner so for it to be 70+ degrees outside is horrid for me to run in - my face looks like this  very red I mean. I also confess to being a bit dehydrated from drinking wine last night  I got cramps in my legs and just felt terrible. I should have been good last night but I didn't use my brain and now my training suffered. I didn't make the 10k I wanted, it was more like 6.5k :( I am going to drink lots of water today and run again in the morning before it gets hot!! I am disappointed in myself. The only silver lining is that although it felt terrible, my time wasn't too bad - (edit:recalculated mileage) about 9 minute miles so not awful time-wise but I can and should do better. Oh well, can't win 'em all and I'll remember this next time!

don't beat yourself up over it! that's a heck of a lot more than i could have done! :D

and like you said, you learned for next time.

i think you're doing great! :)

Nice! You stuck through it! s crappy as it may have been, the rewards are worth the effort--your spare tire will be gone in no time!!!

Thank you both for your support :) I weighed in at 132.5lbs again today so I am still on my plateau. But I feel ready to address the issues I have in terms of making time to exercise and eat a healthy and balance diet. So I am on a plateau? - So what? The plateau can bite me ;) I am going to work harder at my goals and get back on track with the ones that have slipped. I was doing well and haven't been eating quite as good as I should have. These things make a big difference even if the calories are still in deficit.

So I am starting with a tasty big salad loaded with broccoli, carrots and green pepper plus lots of egg white and just a little bit of yolk from some hard-boiled eggs. I chose the vinegar-style dressing instead of the thick, creamy one. I loaded up half the plate with veggies/salad and the other is laden with fruit :D Melon, strawberries, grapes and cantaloupe. Yum!!!!

I also picked up a low-fat chocolate milk - good for my bones :) I'm set for the afternoon now :D

I want to start dropping those pounds very soon. I hope to be back on track for next week. I guess I have to push a bit harder and change things up or my body gets used to it. I am reading a book I had for Xmas about running a marathon. I do not want to run a marathon but figure it will help for when I do the half-marathon :)

mmm chocolately goodness :) enjoy :)

that plateau will move soon - i can just feel it in my bones

Thanks Mal :D I love chocolate milk!!! lol about feeling it in your bones :) I think my bones are feeling it should come soon with all the running I have been doing!!

Thinking about the Half-Marathon....

So although I said I wanted to get through the 10k before I thought more about the half marathon... I am the type of person that can't wait to move onto the next thing and start planning... gawd how I love planning and organizing!

I have this book, which I think I mentioned, that is a guide to running marathons. While a marathon does not appeal to me and I don't think I have the time to train for one right now.... I could probably incorporate a half-marathon training schedule and given that I know I can run 7 miles I should be able to work up to 13.1 miles over the next 5-6 months.

The first thing I see in this book, beyond building a base of aerobic fitness is cross-training. I have been thinking about buying a bicycle for a long time and this summer may be the time to do it! I can't afford one right now but I think I'm going to start setting some money aside over the next month or two. I also need to invest in another pair of sneakers. Mine are getting on a bit and are probably close to their end unfortunately. I have a pair at the gym that stay there and they are fine but a new springy pair will definitely be needed and I will wear them in after the 10k. Cross-training will be good for me. I definitely do some cross-training right now but to incorporate a heavier session of something other than running or the elliptical trainer will be good! I used to be a good swimmer but I am so terrible at it now. Maybe over the Summer I'll be able to pick that up too. I hope to decrease my body fat which will probably help me lose those last pesky 10 or so pounds I am going for!

Just some thoughts on the topic. I wanted to get it down in my diary before I chicken out! I really do feel much better physically and mentally when I exercise and it's so good to have goals outside of work/school. Let's see how I do over the coming months :D

the marine corp marathon, a marathon that's run every year in the district of columbia has a pretty good website for ... might be worth checking out..

and you can run with M2M :D

Thanks Mal :) I'll check it out. M2M should run a half marathon, she kicks butt on her runs :D I think I am going to do some walks at the weekend too, I need to see some more outdoor stuff :)

Hit the gym this morning. Did 20 minutes medium-hard on the elliptical and then did an 8 minute mile on the treadmill and cool down for 5 minutes. I know I shouldn't do too much running this week but it felt really good! I really want to see the scales move this week. I have 7 and a half weeks left till my goal date and I doubt I'll make it to 120lbs by then but I would like to make a significant dent in my measurements and hopefully the scales too :)

Ohhh...a marathon together!

That would be fun - if only we could get a WLF contingent together!!

I'm sure you'd do great in a marathon with a few more months of training. You're already doing great. I can't even think about marathons yet... makes my head spin!
Your food sounded so delicious that my tummy started to growl as I was reading it. lol I guess it's lunchtime.
