Whoo-hoo! I come back and there is encouragement waiting for me!
Thanks for posting, I really do appreciate it, it's nice to see some happy messages here!
As for why I haven't been around: School's out! I'm going places, seeing things, doing stuff, and eating right (except for yesterday)
I've been maintaining about 1500 calories, hiking 4 or 5 days a week (3-4 miles each time) and just getting a lot more active, which is difficult to do at the computer, so I haven't been meeting any of my "online obligations" very well
I still think about the folks here every day, and am constantly remembering inspirational passages from various diaries I read, and I am sad to see that a few of my favorite diaries have been left quiet even longer than I left mine, however I am hoping it is for the same reasons
Anyhoo, I am not here for long, and I really intended to drop by here sometime last week, but I got a little bit busy. I haven't even had time to watch television for several days :O
Oh, and yesterday, I went to watch my niece dance in a recital, and when she was done, we took a walk around the school that was hosting. Literally around the school, with her on my shoulders. She's only about 40 pounds, but she's 40 pounds of hyperactive wriggling little girl who likes to wave at her friends when she sees them! lol, it was fun, and she was a nice addition to the exercise I took in.
The only cloud on the day was our late dinner; I wasn't hungry, but some of us were, so I decided I was going to have soup. When we got to the restaurant, there was a choice between clam chowder, seafood bisque ("made with real heavy cream!" the menu bragged) and "steak chili", so I split an order of fish and chips with my brother, and shared with mom, too. I still ate too much, but I ALSO was able to explain a few things about food to my nephew during dinner; he's putting on weight because having control issues and is acting out through food. I just told him I want him to be healthy and explained a little bit about the basics of "the daily diet". We measured small amounts of food, and I discovered he has a really good eye for measuring a teaspoon and a tablespoon and a cup/half-cup/etc. When I told him a tablespoon of butter has 100 calories in it, he just shrugged, until I told him a normal healthy amount of food for a day is 2000 calories; then asked him how many servings of "just butter" that would be in a day.
If he chooses to overeat, I'm not going to try to stop him, but I want him to know what he's doing to himself and to know how to eat right (it's not all salad, dammit!).
Okay, long rambling post is finished. I'm thinking about going back to maintaining my daily food diary, because the site is working more smoothly now; it's not hanging up and dropping posts on me or anything, which IS THE SOLE REASON I stopped doing it before. Well, the layout still sucks, but I'm used to it now, and with the performance being back up, I'm not overly concerned. If you have any input, say it here!
