Qjay's thread

thats all such a good idea for portion controlling stuff. i really must buy some stuff already portioned. and suggest to mum also to portion my food before she brings it to the table - she puts it all in dishes in front of us. its a recipe for disaster

For serving control I try to premeasure the silverware at the table, lol. For example, my normal-size dining spoon actually holds a tablespoon of liquid, and my serving spoons hold just over double that. My coffee cups hold a little under 2 measuring cups (edited this line) and my soup bowls will take 2 cups if I go just to the middle of the design around the lip.
Being able to know that a heaping spoonful of mashed potatoes (or rice or whatever) is about 1/4 cup means I don't have to work too hard to know how much I am eating of something.
It also helps keep my measurements a little more subtle, I hate feeling like I am making a big deal out of something.

Lessee, today's food:
Sandwich 400
Coffee with evap milk 500
Chicken salad 500
Salmon salad 500 (I added some Crunchy Cheetos to it! Mmmm... )
so... 1900. Nothing else in, except for 8 smokes and a bunch of vitamins and medicines and crap like that. I woke up a little sore because of yesterday's climbing, but I was okay after some coffee and a couple of advil.

Homework is still killing me, but midterm projects are SUPPOSED to be tough.

I hope you get to work on those projects without too many hassles.

It sounds like you are in a pretty good place with your weight loss efforts right now and that is great to hear! :)

I was interested in your comments about the leg press machine helping with your knees too.

I use sugar free syrup

What on earth is that made of then? I have to say it sounds disgusting, but then I find a lot of low fat, low calories stuff tastes nothing like the full fat/full calorie thing it is meant to replace.

The compulsive eating is way down from previous months, so that is a very good feeling

I'm glad to hear that you have made progress as that gives me hope!

Sugar free syrup: I dunno, I just use the stuff at the restaurant. It is sweet and maple-y and has 30 calories per 1/4 cup serving.

I do believe that this is the website here:

The bottle looks the same in the picture and the calorie count is the same, so I'd assume the sweetener is Splenda like shown here.

New day: 2 Sandwiches (800), 3 cups of milk (330) (one was cafe au lait), and an assload of stress. Gah, these classes are BRUTAL! I thought I was going to take it easy my last session! I had it all planned out... *sigh* 1130 calories is leaving me low of food, but weirdly energized. I guess having only 4 hours of sleep is catching up to me in some strange ways.

I found the ingredient list thanks. It's the long list of chemicals in these things that puts me off. However, I checked and pure maple syrup has 200 calories in a 1/4 cup, so it is a good calorie saving. The sugar free one is full of sulphur though, and I am allergic to that, so I shan't hunt any out.

I'm FREE! Midterms are over!
Now I am going to go get some sleep; see you all in a day or two.

lol, and I thought I would get a break...
Tanks for your kind words and hopeful thoughts, though. It is appreciated :D

I plan to, definitely :D
I think I will skip the "climbing over logs" this time, though. There is still plenty to see in the park ;)

edit: I forgot to add in yesterday's food.

Sandwich 400
Some little pieces of sushi (dunno, but it can't have been over 200)
Some SMOKED TOFU! (500 cal, but it was spread out over the whole afternoon and evening. Delicious!)
Stir fry with Christmas rice (I'm assuming around 500 cal)
A Boba tea with only half the syrup in it (assuming 200 cal)
Wheat thins and Triscuits and cheeses, oh my! (500 cal)

It looks like approximately 2300 calories for yesterday. :D Not bad, since it was an active day!

So I am trying a little bit of unusual food today. So far I have had:
An avocado (large, 400 cal or so)
A cup of black rice with a taste of honey and butter (300 cal)
2 fish balls (100 cal)

I have a "vindaloo black rice with veggies" dish cooling at the moment, it has around 200 calories per cup. No sandwich today, at least not yet. I'm thinking about just portioning the rice and veggies and freezing them for later meals, because there is a LOT of food there. Rice, peas, pepper strips, and vindaloo paste make for a simple dish that is very healthy.

I need a new "eat watch":

I really like this site.

i have never tried an avocado..
they confuse me
are they a fruit or a vegetable?
because they look like a vegetable .. but then they are pears.
eeeeep

Hmm.. your food looks so interesting. I didn't know there was such a thing as black rice. Does it have the same texture as wild rice? Sounds yummy with honey & butter.

Anyway - have a great day! :D:D

Avocados are fruits, they have a big pit/seed in the middle, remember?
And not all of them are pear shaped :D Those are mostly Hass Avocados, I think. The one I had this morning was about the size of my fist, and it was delicious.
Have you ever had Guacamole? It's mostly just mashed up avocado with a few other yummy things added to it.

The black rice is pretty good, and it is defintiely whole grain and shares a lot of texture similarities with wild rice. It's got a chewier texture than nost of white rice, has the kernal and bran still intact, and has a different taste then most, but I couldn't begin to describe it other than to say it's mildly different.

I am going to have a nice bowl of the vindaloo veggies this evening and might not even add the sausages, etc. to my menu tonight. I'm really sleepy, even after a nap and I think I would rather sleep than eat.

Oh, I forgot to mention this: I sat in a chair last night that has been "too small" (metal arms that are set too close for my wide butt to fit in comfortably) for several years... and I just plopped right into it, no wedging needed. It was a really nice feeling, because I remember sitting uncomfortably in this chair many, many times, with it digging into my personal seat cushion; and this time I was able to plant myself and relax. A nice feeling, for sure.

I remember finally being able to comfortably fit into a bench seat while out for dinner that had always been too tight for me. I always had to pour myself into it and slide my way out of it before. I actually had room to breath.. It was such a great feeling. Being able to "fit" into things that are made for average to small people can be such an issue. Not just for above average weight people, but also for those who are really tall or pregnant.
Michelle :)
