Progress so far

Hey all, new guy here. :)

I just thought I'd post how I've been doing so far. It'll be a short one for now.

I'm 25 and 6'3". In August of 2005, I weighed about 345 lbs. I finally decided to do something about it, especially after my dad had a stroke. My family has a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and all the fat-people ailments you may expect.

I'm happy to say that today, after eating healthy and excercising on my own at home, I weigh 238 lbs! I've gone from a waist size of 46 to a 38. I'd still like to get to 230 (my long term goal weight) and I have a lot of toning that I'd like to do, so I recently joined a gym for the first time and have started weight training and such.

This is the latest comparison picture I have from a couple months ago. I'll have to post a new one later on as my gym goals get met. :) Thanks!

Wow, thanks everyone. :) I've been browsing around here and there have been some amazing successes described here! Great job everyone! I'll have to come around and congratulate you all individually!

So, here's a little history of me.

Back when that before picture was taken, I had just had my first book come out (also pictured). I do 3D art and graphics, which is what the book was about, but when it came time to put my picture on the back cover, I was so ashamed of how my picture looked, that I made a little 3D cartoon version of myself and put that on there instead.

I knew then that I needed to do something, if I was that ashamed of myself. So, I "tried" to do something and maybe lost 10 lbs or so over 5 months but it was in May or June of 2005 that I learned my dad had a stroke. That was really the straw that broke this camel's back, and I decided that if I wanted to get to my dad's age and not have the same exact problems or worse, I had to do something NOW.

So, starting in August, I got some excercise tapes, some resistance bands, and started buying water bottles. I threw away my George Foreman grill (that I had been using to cook hamburgers almost daily for months and months), I stopped going to fast food places (places I would go to once or twice a day sometimes), stopped drinking sodas, stopped buying cakes and cookies and donuts, and did something!

Let me tell everyone out there, the first month is the worst, most excruciating thing. But it did start getting better. I decided to buy a scale at that point which is when I learned I was 345 lbs... Who knows how much I was in that February picture 6 months prior.... probably closer to 360 or something, I never checked.

But anyway, I still remember the feeling of looking at the scale and seeing the number 299 on there. Looking down and seeing 260, my high school weight. Looking down and seeing 250, 240 and at my lowest, 232. Since starting the gym, I've gone up some... supposedly that's a good thing, I'm not sure, haha.

But anyway, I know anyone can do it. I've inspired my parents to both try to lose weight. My dad's struggling, but my mom's lost a good 20-30 lbs or so. My dad told me that he didn't know of anyone in my family past the age of 22 to ever reverse their weight like I did. My family has always been big and known for being big.

thanks for listening! :) Good luck everyone!

Wow... you look absolutely amazing!!! And it's so great that you've inspired your parents to lose weight as well :)

Thanks so much for the compliment, maleficent. It was especially nice to hear today of all days as my girlfriend is breaking up with me. :( :(

Looks like I'll have more time to hit the gym, I guess...
