Progress and Setbacks - the Road Ahead

Thanks LaMa, the 7.5 miles at an easy pace seemed a lot easier than 30 minutes of basketball today.

I learned a lesson from last week and wore the heartrate monitor to see where my max HR would land. Multiple times I looked down to see the HR up above 180 so think I spent the majority of the time in the upper zone for my HR. Felt like it was a little easier to move around out there this week but I may have just been delirious due to lack of oxygen :)

Thanks again Cate & BB,

Installed a new app on my phone that reminds me to get up and walk around every 45 minutes. Working at a desk all day leads to prolonged periods of inactivity so nice to have a gentle reminder to get up and walk around. Lots of walking yesterday and also another 3.5 mile jog/walk.

Another basketball session today. For the first half of the workout I managed to keep my HR in check much better as we were mainly shooting but during a short game my HR started creeping back up. My peak HR was 189 during the previous session which is higher than the basic formula recommends and spent quite a bit of time above 180 so going to book an appointment and discuss with my doctor to get the all clear.

I know max HR is a general formula and not necessarily one size fits all but seems like something that's better to discuss to be sure.

I fully agree on both counts. And am assuming you´re just really good at pushing yourself, you go girl!

Thanks LaMa,

Booked an appointment to be on the safe side and have an older nagging injury to look into as well so aiming to take care of a couple items at the same time. Activity level has been good this weekend, eating/snacking has been a little off but not derailed. Will see where everything lands tomorrow morning for weigh in.

It's a good idea to get a check up & keep an eye on your health.Well done on having an active w/e & not getting derailed with your eating. Hope you have a good weigh-in K&D.

Thanks Cate,

Weigh in went well this morning, numbers going down on the body fat % and weight again this week. Will be concentrating on getting up and wandering around every 45 minutes today. Guessing if I overload on water that goal will kind of take care of itself.

Went for a fairly long run at lunch after a few days break. Pace was quicker, heart rate was lower so seems like a win-win. Still slow 13:45/mile pace but as the conditioning improves and weight goes down the pace will continue to improve. Also noticing an improved recovery time during the walk breaks so managed to change the walk run ratio from 1min/1min to 80 seconds/40 seconds for a portion of the run without going over the target heart rate.

Another basketball session today that included playing against a opponent ten years younger/~ 75 pounds lighter. My competitive nature is creeping back and stamina is increasing but still low. Either way it makes for a fun workout and the time passes by quickly when I am not busy gasping for air

:) I definitely prefer life in the slow lane, but in theory I can imagine having fun getting that into a game.

Thanks all, was definitely a fun time and worked up a good sweat. Heart rate was still a little high but not as high as previous outings as I was paying closer attention and trying to slow the pace.

I seem to have two modes, full steam ahead or reverse. Will take work to learn to slow down without sliding back into unhealthy habits.

You're doing great K&D! I pushed against and over my max HR early on. I don't any more. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but that's how it went. The max HR is what is known safe for a given age for every male. There is obviously going to be a range, but the trouble is not knowing where you are in that range. It won't be a worry soon enough. Keep it up!
