Progress and Setbacks - the Road Ahead

Did 5 miles today and the pace and heart rate are both improving which is very positive. Felt better out there today as well so all around a positive sign. The scales have been all over the place so will be interesting to see where they end up tomorrow.

Thanks Butterfly, Tru, Cate and Lama

So I think I've figured out why the scale has been flying all over the place lately. The spot I've been using to weigh myself is not quite level so only three of the four corners has been firmly on the floor which has the scale jumping +/- 3 pounds so today I've found a spot that is level and all four corners are solidly on the floor before weighing in.
The good news is that the weigh in was lower when the scale was well positioned.

258.4 and 33.4% body fat. It's nice to be back in the 250's again.

Ooo that´s nasty! Glad you could fix the problem, I remember from my WW days that people had all kinds of rituals to make sure the scale gave the "correct" result but if your scales are on strike there´s no way you can win.

My scales were doing the same thing! But when I got a flat surface my weight went up:(

Yep, scales back to bouncing around again today no matter what surface I use. Think I'll ignore the scales and start measuring by comfort level in clothes and belt notches as it's also a good reflection of progress. As long as the exercise and eating remain on target, the weight and scales will take care of themselves eventually (it is difficult to not let the scale affect my mood however)

Clothes are feeling more comfortable and dropped to a smaller belt notch today without cutting off circulation to my legs.

Good thinking K&D. Scales are mean creatures & are designed specifically to do our heads in ;) How your clothes feel is a much better sign anyway....Cate tells herself :blush5: You are on a clear path that's for sure xoCate

Great progress K&D! The heart rate monitor is how I started running. It's a great way to moderate and see progress. Keep it up!

Went out to the basketball court to shoot a few hoops yesterday (boy do I suck) then decided to add in exercise by putting in a penalty (set of lines)for missing more than 3/5 free throws. [ bad decision number 1] I survived a couple rounds and then went on a bad shooting spree so found myself getting a *LOT* of exercise as each set of lines left me more tired and less capable of hitting shots..

After losing count of the number of missed shots/lines, bad decision #2 walked onto the court as I was about to leave. Young guy half my age asked if I wanted to play some 1 on 1 and instead of the smart play of leaving I foolishly said why not. After about three minutes the guy was looking very concerned for my safety and kept asking if I was ok to continue. 1 on 1 is brutal as it has you constantly moving and there's nowhere to hide. Let's just say my high school coach would not have been impressed with my defensive efforts which mainly consisted of waving one arm above my head and using the other to prop myself up by resting it on my knee.

Only real regret is that when I decided to shoot baskets instead of going for a run I left my HR monitor in the locker. I figure if I had brought it with me I'd have solid knowledge of what my Max HR is since I was red-lining it for the entire 11 point match.

Shoulder is sore today so went for a 20 minute walk/jog on the treadmill.

Sounds like a great way to get a lot of exercise in!! That's the kind of exercise I like, sports that don't feel like you're working out!

Few bad meals on the weekend and weight has tipped up slightly as a result. No good would come from worrying about it now so going to focus on the week ahead and getting back to the gym.

Great jog/walk yesterday. Had intended to go for a shorter run but decided to try out a new route and ended up covering 7.5 miles instead of the 4-5 that I was aiming for. Was almost three miles out before I started heading back but didn't have a map/phone and instead of turning back I attempted to run a loop. Loops don't work so well if you have no idea where you're going apparently... who'd a thunk it.
Currently at 21/40 mile jogging goal for the month so right on target.
