Pharinet's Journal

Snack
1 Orange

Comments:
I struggled here. I really really wanted something with lots of carbs. I was thinking cheesecake. I found a recipe or two where I can actually have cream cheese (low fat) and strawberries, but I still don't have a lot of healthy foods in the fridge yet. Grrr. Must go shopping this weekend.

DAILY TOTAL = 1095

Comments: The problem is, I was hungry a lot today. I still feel hungry. I can look at my day's intake and know I ate, but I just don't feel satisfied. I'm under by about 100 calories, but I have a hard time believing that a 100 calorie difference is really going to matter that much.

Today sucked. I tried to stay positive, but it really really sucked. I had a headache all day. I was hungry no matter what I ate. I didn't exercise and it isn't because I couldn't, it's because I wouldn't. I am not happy with myself today. I sure hope I do and feel better tomorrow.
(gah, I hate sounding whiney like that...)

Breakfast
Lemon Zinger Tea w/ 2 tsp Honey
1 Orange

Total = 146

Comments:
I'm going to try to be more positive today. By yesterday evening, I was downright miserable. I don't have a headache this morning, so that will help my mood. :)

hope you have a better day today...

What calorie range are you shooting for on a daily basis?

Heya, Mal! Thanks for stopping by!

I try to stay within 1200-1300 calories per day. I find that days when I allow myself more 'meals' I do better. My schedule just makes it really difficult. After 28 years of eating when and how I want, figuring all this out becomes pretty overwhelming. I'm working on ways to fit good food into my schedule. If you have any tips or tricks, I'm all ears! :)

Exercise
40 minutes of Tae Bo (abs workout today)

Comments: I'm running a bit late today, but the exercise was worth it. I didn't want to do it, but I made myself move. I need to do that more often...just make myself.

Snack
Slice of white bread w/ 1 tbsp peanut butter
Unsweetened Iced Tea w/ Splenda
Total = 166

Comments: I plan on buying some whole wheat tortillas this weekend. I think they have less calories than white bread...maybe I should check into that. Anyway, I gotta get going...

If your grocery store carries them - look for the La Tortilla Factory tortillas - tehy make a rosemary and olive oil a green onion and a whole wheat - ALL of them are packed with fiber - the green onion and whole wheat are like 50 calories per tortilla and have 8 grams of fiber and taste good too... (makes for a good quesadilla or just wrap for a sandwich... )

Thanks so much for the suggestion! If they don't have that particular brand, I know there are quite a few varieties at my local market that I can check out.

Lunch
Salad w/ shredded cheese and balsamic vinagrette dressing
Unsweetened Iced Tea w/ Splenda

Total = 239

Comments: None.

Snack
Pear

Total = 98

Dinner
1.5 cups Tuna Noodle Casserole
Unsweetened Iced Tea

Total = 571

Comments: Although I'm over 1200, I'm most likely going to allow myself a snack later if I feel hungry...something between 80 and 100 calories so I don't go far past 1300.

I need to remember this more often too. It does make a big difference.

Regardless of any (small) calorie difference between a white product and the equivalent thing made with the whole grain, the whole grain one will feel more substantial - it will take more effort to eat and longer to digest, and keep your body chemicals on more of an even keel.

Good to know...I assume by "feel more substantial" you mean I'll feel more full? If so, BONUS! Feeling full is good. I hate eating and still feeling hungry!

TOTALS FOR 3/6/08
Dinner and Beyond...
Well, I don't have a calorie count for dinner because I promised myself I'd just enjoy my b-day meal...and I did!
We went to the Olive Garden. I had a lot of salad. I had one breadstick, but I skipped the usual alfredo sauce for dipping. Then, I ordered the braised beef tortelloni, and it was fantastic. I ate about half because I was "saving room" for dessert. Hehehe. For dessert, I had the chocolate tort with strawberries and caramel sauce. Yumm! I also had 1 and a half glasses of white zinfandel and some water. J bought me chocolate covered strawberries, but I only had one later that evening.

I don't really feel bad about not having a total calorie count for the day. I know I ate more calories than I should have, but I know I didn't eat as much as I once would have, so that's progress.

Exercise
Well...it was my birthday...and J did get us a romantic room...does that count? ;)

TOTALS FOR TODAY (3/7/08)
Breakfast
Skipped it. Got up late.

Lunch
Chef's Salad (no egg) w/ ranch dressing
2 cups of coffee w/ sugar and half and half (I gotta remember to bring Splenda packets w/ me)

Snack
Banana

Dinner
2 salad wraps w/ dressing

Snack
No Sugar Added Fudgesicle

DAILY TOTAL = 1004

Comments:
I'm too tired to post individual calories for each meal today. I'm also pretty certain that I'm over 1004. I couldn't find a good description of the chef's salad I had, so I did the best I could with what info I had. I'm guessing it was at least 100-150 calories more than what I entered into my total for today

Exercise
DDR BABY!!! WOOT!

I'm glad you had a great birthday! Doesn't sound like you missed out on anything at all to me!!

and now you have DDR - yes!! Magic!! (I haven't ever used one, but I just know they are the way to go for people who like to dance! Like you ... and me.)

and yes, by "more substantial" I meant you'd feel more full - and for sure that's important to someone who's trying to eat less calories than they used to!! :D

I'm not good about posting on the weekends, but I am still keeping track of my food.

SATURDAY 3/8/08

Cream of Wheat w/ strawberries

1 Plum

Exercise
About an hour of DDR. I'm getting better at it already! lol
The only problem is that my feet and calves tend to hurt when I do it. I stretch before, during, and after. I'm sure once I get used to the activity it won't hurt so much.
