Petals diary

Glad you faced your fear and went to your class anyway. And the result was good!

Hi Petal, I feel like a maintain sometimes is a good thing. It's so hard to get the body to let go of pounds, and some weeks the weight is extra stubborn in coming off or there's just a lot of hunger pangs. It's great you go to your class regardless of whether or not you lose! Sounds like a really positive helpful class. I get inspired reading all the delicious foods you are eating, and I made a few new recipes with fresh salsa ingredients because I got inspired reading your posts. Sorry I didn't have time to respond, but you are in my thoughts during the week!

Hi, Petal. I actually think a short plateau is a good thing. I think our bodies need to adjust as we go. It can feel frustrating, but so long as it doesn't go up we know we're doing things right. Your SW class works well for you & your attitude is excellent :)

Thank you everyone , im ok with maintaining . This is a life I need to maintain for ever now and the way I am wired it's life long struggle. I, so much happier the way I feel and look now and if it takes another year to lose another stone so be it. Obviously my aim is to do it quicker but I realise I will have ups and downs and maintains along the way. In the past I would have skipped class if I felt a maintain or gain from shame .

I wore no skirts Last 2 winters as they did not fit me . Just put on a uk size 14 one ( think that's a us 10) and it's a little big , yeah . Sorry no time to reply to all you lovely people individually as I need to get to work.

Rob you have reminded me of a gathering we attended in France but with English people. The food was good basic Fayre , cooked meats , salads , breads , chutneys, potatoes . And wonderful desserts.
That sounds like something I would really enjoy. And my guess is that with Irish and English in France no one had to hide the alcohol!

What is your Irish coffee like? Over here it refers to whiskey in coffee, same there? I've not had an Irish Whiskey in a long time, but I do like it.

The very same Rob. I'm not a hard liquor fan so I don't have tbh. But it is popular.

I love that you really seem to have found the right attitude to your weight & health, Petal. Don't worry about not having time to get around the diaries. There are only so many hours in a day.
Cate it really for some strange reason has clicked with me after years of trying. I just feel happier and even though I know I still have weight to lose I don't worry now. I think because I have committed myself to a long term plan instead of hoping for the short term fix .

This week was hectic with work, study, visiting a sick relative and trying to keep on top of housework etc. Managed to find time for a well needed haircut . Hairdresser noticed my weight loss and said I had lovely cheekbones . A few people have noticed my weight dropping and are asking me what I am doing .

Made a delicious chicken curry yesterday with whole grain rice. It was probably a bit higher in calories as I made for everyone's taste but it fitted in on my plan so all good. I use light coconut milk , garlic, chicken stock and curry spices . Peppers and onion. As I'm supposed to be eating lots of veg or fruit with each meal I chopped an apple and 2 pineapple slices and mixed with my own rice and didn't overdo my sauce portion . It was delicious.

Made some sugar free jellies as husband enjoys them . Fills him up for about 9 calories.

Technology scares me . Yesterday I was looking up French verb books on Amazon on my iPad . Last night my daughter was on Facebook ( or something ) and a sponsored ad came up for the exact same books I was looking at. She was on a completely different device and account. She just mentioned to me how strange this ad came up as we had been discussing French books the day before. Are our devices listening to us . It's creepy.. sorry bit of a random topic there

That´s a great sign for a plan you can keep up long-term. Also: I´ve never understood light coconut milk. Do you know of a reason why people don´t just dilute the full-fat stuff and add a bit of corn starch or something for texture? Isn´t that basically what light coconut milk is? But you pay the same for it as the real stuff.

I definitely get ads for things I´ve discussed on private chat but haven´t googled. Not for things I discuss irl because I´ve deactivated my digital assistants.

I am seriously contemplating getting rid of my smartphone. It's so annoying because I do love it for my Fitbit (sleep score - obsessed!) but I hate being bombarded by ads all day every day.

The chicken curry sounded lovely. Have you noticed an improvement in your skin with all the healthy food you're eating? I am serious need of some green vegetables myself.

Hi Petal,

Your note got me curious, so I did some googling. It turns out Amazon (and may websites) allow third-party companies to track searches in your browser using "cookies". So those third-party companies then leverage that information to place ads on whatever sites you visit which have a relationship with that company. Thus the ubiquitous ads.

How it reached your daughter's account, though, I'm not sure. It's possible they have advanced algorithms that can determine family members and speculate on common interests. But it could be a case of mistaken identity, or maybe you one time you used your daughter's device and now your "cookie" is driving your adds towards her. Not really sure.

Anyway, you can do a lot to disable this kind of thing, though. Here's the article I got the info from, which gives some tips on how to do that. Addblocker's are also very helpful - I have to figure out how to add one to my Safari Browser on the iphone.

How to stop seeing your Amazon searches everywhere

Digital assistants - what are they ??
Jack thanks I'll have a look at that later.
Em my skin is good at the moment thanks . LaMa I suppose the lighter milk is way lower in calories and fat. I must investigate. I do add a little corn flour to thicken it also.
