Petals diary

Hi Petal! I hope you can find a good balance with the long work hours so you can still put your goals for yourself as very high priority!

Hi all I'm really sorry I am just struggling to get here right now . I don't know if it's the shorter dark days or what but they fly by .
All is ok though . Exercise still flagging but food ok .
I'll check in as and when I can .

Yeah, it's exactly a month to the shortest day of the year, then we get light again! Can't wait!! Great that food is going good as that is really what works for weight loss. Big hugs and hope things continue to go really well for you!!

Thanks everyone . Woke early his morning so got time to catch up a bit .
Yes we get dark about 4.30 pm . Today our sun rise is 8am and sunset is 4.30 pm . It's worse now as we are having lots of rain so the days are dull and dark .

Work is ok I'm dealing with the stress . Son is back to his old self just about so I'm not so worried there anymore . Daughter still plodding along and hubby and I getting on pretty well so all is good .

I'm not talking much about diet or exercise even though I'm aware this it a diet forum lol. I'm doing ok right now although exercise seems to be gone out the window. I miss the drier weather and I will look forward to evening walks again each night it's dry enough . Food I'm eating a balanced diet .

Not much else going on except I'm aware Christmas is approaching and I have nothing bought for anyone . Only person I worry about is my daughter at this point and she loves lots of little things to open . I do spend a lot on her just because I enjoy her delight . But I'm getting clueless on what to get her. May see now tomorrow for Black Friday what deals I can pick up . But need to sort soon in order to have it on time .

Happy thanksgiving to all our American friends and to everyone else

Thanks Petal! I love Thanksgiving. Any excuse to be grateful!!

We just got a few nice things for everyone ordered online, and it added up so quickly. Mostly we just like spending time with extended family at Christmas. J has wonderful siblings, and my daughter loves all her cousins. So it's just nice family time.

It's nice when things are going so well that there isn't much to talk about. Domestic peace and tranquility is under-rated, I think!

Well I did quite a bit after so I am pretty pleased . My phone pinging with delivery notifications. Tbh we don't buy for many just a few young niece and nephews . For me Christmas is my main time of year I get a decent break and I read watch movies and walk . Also catch up just for a day or two with old relatives and a college friend or two . But it's my one time of year I consider down time . Love it .

Time is whizzing by . That's good though . Had a good weekend as the weather dried off a bit and did 2 super hikes followed by a walk Monday night in town and saw the Christmas lights .
Work is busy , my daughter is studying for Christmas exams so not much free time. Have a lot of things happening at the moment but all good .
Hope everyone well x

Nice to hear from you, Petal! Glad you´re doing well. The Christmas lights are so pretty in Vienna, too. It´s a joy to go out for an evening walk, despite the wet and the cold.

I love walks at night. Will have to copy you and go see the Christmas lights, too! Glad all is well!!

Hi everyone just caught up on all your diaries. Im mesmerised how you all get time to write so much . I think I'm gone very anti screen time and just don't get to switch it on so much now and I can't bear it on phone . I have a constant headache last few days so even on less than usual.

I am having a few health issues with my BP so am anxious about that and of course the anxiety not helping . Few little other things too but I'll sort it . One positive was my weight was lower than last time I was at the doctor .

Had a night out with friends on Thursday and my son came home for the weekend Friday so just been having some family time which was nice . Today I'm minding my niece and nephew so that will keep me busy. Will hopefully watch a Christmas movie maybe . Happy Sunday all x

There are much better things to do with the hours of your life than forcing yourself to be online when you don´t enjoy it. We are however always glad to hear from you and I´m happy to hear the weight´s going in the right direction. Take care of that blood pressure.

Lol I do like online a lot but it doesn't like me . That's why I keep iPad in my room so only access minimal times . Used to use my phone but my eyes just not able for it . If I had it in kitchen I would probably do nothing when home

The joys of genetic eyes and starting to age :p:p

Thanks LaMa yes keeping eye on the BP , was pretty high this morn , I feel a bit vulnerable over it , my dad had it and had 3 strokes so I'm scared which is probably making it worse

Hi Petal! Good to hear from you, but sorry to hear about your blood pressure being high. I have been taking my mom to the urgent care center because of extremely high blood pressure lately, so have been researching it a lot. Sorry if this is too much information or if you already researched all this, but I have a good list of foods compiled that are recommended on the DASH diet (dietary approaches to stop hypertension) to help lower blood pressure:

Potassium rich foods help get excess salt out of your system –
Leafy greens including spinach, broccoli, cukes, eggplant, sweet potatoes, potatoes, mushrooms, peas, pumpkins, avocados, bananas, tomato sauce, kidney beans, bananas, kiwi, cantaloupe…

Flavoniods help prevent hypertension and lower blood pressure –
Berries, onions, tree fruits, nightshade veggies, celery, artichoke, snap peas, broccoli, parsley…

Nitric Oxide help open blood vessels and lower blood pressure –
Red beets, garlic, dark chocolate with more than 60% cocoa solids, organ meats, leafy greens, citrus fruits, pomegranate fruit and juice, watermelon, red wine...

Magnesium rich foods reduce blood pressure –
Acocado, dark chocolate, almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, legumes, tofu. Seeds like sunflower and pumpkin seeds are high in potassium, magnesium and other minerals…

Fiber –
Pears, strawberries, avocado, apples, raspberries, banana, carrots, beets, broccoli, artichoke, lentils, kidney beans, split peas, quinoa, oats, almonds, chia seeds, dark chocolate, …

Calcium lowers blood pressure –
Yogurt and dairy.

Omega 3s lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, lower triglycerides –
Fish like salmon, mackerel, oysters, sardines, anchovies, flax and chia seeds, walnuts, soy beans.

Pistachios reduce blood pressure.

Olive oil contains polyphenols which reduce inflammation and lower blood pressure.

Anyway, hope it comes back down quickly! Hope things are good otherwise!!!

:iagree: with LaMa. We love hearing from you, but don't feel bad about not being able to keep up with diaries xoxo
If high BP is in your family, there is every chance you may need medication. My Dad died from a heart attack at 71 & his Dad had numerous strokes but lived to his mid-80's. I have a very healthy diet but am unable to get my BP down without meds. I have accepted that. I tried for years to get it down without success. After insisting on a referral to a cardiologist I then found out I have an Aneurysm in my ascending aorta. Now, this doesn't bother me as I am the one who sensed something was not quite right. I do feel in tune with my body. I am glad I am taking meds. I am glad I saw the cardio. He advised me that the best thing I could do was to drastically reduce my salt intake, which I did. It hasn't grown at all in 3 years.
The worst thing with high BP, other than salt is stress. (I'm talking to myself now as well). The more we worry, the more we worry. Finding ways to cope with stress is going to be my highest priority from now on. Take care of yourself, Petal xoxo

Thank you all for the useful words . Marsia plenty of health foods there and lucky I love them all . Yes cate it runs in the family . I'll be glad to get it sorted and if I need meds I'll take them . I feel pretty anxious but I'm looking at it too as a life changer for me . It's made me feel a bit calmer reading your story . I didn't think I was stressed per se but I have been dealing with stress and upset . Thankfully my family are good . Want to hug you all right now :grouphug::grouphug:
