Welcome Auburn and Mom2
Auburn
No-one needs any kind of special pedometer for this thread. Any old pedometer will do.
Some pedometers produce stats and others do not.
If yours simply tells you the stepcount - post that.
If you really want to know the distance it is not a difficult calculation. You need to measure your step length. This may be for instance something like 24.5 inches. You can measure this easily enough by measuring 10 steps and dividing by 10. In some pedometers you get the opportunity to key this in so that it is all set up.
If you multiply the stepcount by the steplength you get the distance walked in inches. Since that is too big a number for us to handle - you can convert it into miles by dividing it by the amount of inches in a mile. This is all that the pedometers do that display the distance in miles.
My pedometer does not convert to calories.
Mom2 - welcome to this little group. Would you believe that I walk all day - or at least it seems like that. I wear my pedometer all day long from first thing in the morning until last thing at night because every step we take burns calories and helps us towards the steps that we need to do to stay healthy. I have a medical problem which means that I put on weight extra easily and have difficulty taking it off - but I have discovered that I can get a near normal rate of weight loss with dieting if I walk excessive distances. This is a revelation for me - as I had struggled many times over the past 20 years to escape very definite morbid obesity and failed every time. I am fortunate in that I do not work - so I am effectively able to be a very large full time athlete. Every morning I go out on a 6.3 mile walk. In the afternoon I go out on another walk - often in the region of 3 to 4 miles. Sometimes in the evening I take another short walk when I am in my normal routine. In addition I attend various keep fit classes.
Mom2 - Well done for getting in your 10K steps.
Stacy - Well done for going out on that walk.
