Well today is the first day of my new life. A life without excuses and where I watch what I eat! I've been guilty of just talking about weight loss but never just really doing it. This will change today for me!

The only issues I might have in the near future are Thanksgiving and a dinner party this week. I need to learn how to cope with these types of events so instead of my usual pig out and then diet attitude, I am going to try to learn how to deal with these things.

My two biggest challenges to overcome are:

Eating fast and just because it's there; I've eaten many meals just out of the fridge! I also have some emotional eating problems...I eat sometimes when I'm frustrated or stressed with something.

I'm going to keep a mini log of what I eat & how much exercise...just to keep me honest. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing yet but I hope to work it out in time!

Today - banana, 1 coffee (2 tbsp milk, 1 tbs sugar), 16 oz. water., about 3 oz. of a meatloaf type of creation(with lots of tofu, onions, carrots & hamburger) 1 cup carrots, salad w/ low cal dressing, 1" pumpkin pie top crust part off (oops) + one coffee black (I'm starting to hate coffee - gives me the worst heartburn! I need to drink more water instead)
Walk the dog (30 min), light house cleaning (30 min).

Welcome Paige - you're taking a big step in the right direction: admitting the problem and being accountable for it.

You may want to look into tools like or bot have tools for tracking calories and exercise.

Good Luck!!! :D:D

Thanks pequin! I'll look into spark people. I've seen Fitday before...it's great! I hope I can put a link to this place.

I might try the wine, chocolate, cheese lifestyle starting on tuesday. I need to shop and read up on it first.... I feel I need some sort of guideline to follow.

I'm guessing that your are refering to this:
I beg you - please don't try to take a fad dieting way out. It will only bring you heart break!

that's honestly not a fad diet.. it's a lifestyle change that is really calorie counting and allows for occassional treats.. you aren't having just chocolate and wine for dinner with a side course of cheese... it's healthy eating of freshly prepared foods.. (it's marie claire's version of the french women don't get fat book - minus the disgusting leek soup :D

Welcome to your diary...

one of the tricks i'm trying to use to slow down my eating.. is take a sip of water between every bite.. it allows you to get more water into to you.. plus it slows you down a lot

lol @ leek soup

Sounds like a fad (or at least too good to be true)... guess I need to read up a bit :D:eek:

It looks like it's a diet based on moderation. I can see how it might work though the food is a little too uppity for me... not a can of pork n beans on whole site lol.......

its totally anti any kind of processed foods.. you can have pork and beans.. but you are making it yourself... from scratch- i think you even have to go slaughter the pig :D

You guys are too funny! :D Slaughtering the pig! lolol I might not miss an ol' can of pork and beans but mac & cheese mmm.

I'm wondering if the plan is a good one for me. It sounds so yummy. The problem right now is my husband does most of the cooking (I'm lucky I know..but fat too!) so I'm going to have to do the cooking now since French food is not something he is into either! He is a comfort food kinda guy. Lots of carbs.

I totally appreciate your concern pequin. I was thinking, from the name, that it sounded fadish like too until maleficent came along! I've been on too many fad diets! I hate the word diet in general since it brings up feelings of short-term punishment!

Love the water tip maleficent! Thank you!!!

An Early Thanksgiving

I'm Canadian and today we celebrated Thanksgiving. Luckily my husband and I were invited to my brother's place. We only made two things - a salad and cranberry sauce. We left it there so I'm thankful, on this Thanksgiving, that I don't have leftovers!

I filled the majority of my plate with roasted veg. and salad. Then added a little stuffing, sweet pot., mashed pot., turkey and a few tbs of gravy. I also had a very small portion of 2 different deserts...one was pumpkin brule (the best thing I have ever tasted!). Just the one meal today...it was enough!

I could have done a lot better but I'm actually happy with my efforts. I didn't go back for seconds or eat full portions of the 2 deserts. I don't have tempting leftovers & I don't feel that I ate like someone on a diet but like a regular normal weight person on Thanksgiving.

I did notice I was hungry a few hours after - This always happens to me after big meals!

I noticed I do that too - like clockwork! Especially after Chinese food..lol Glad you had a good day and congrats on no leftovers. That my friend is an accomplishment in and of itself!!

Thanks pequin! Bad news though - my mom dropped off a whole load of them! :( I couldn't just slam the door in her face and say take it back! LOL. It's mostly turkey though so that should be fine I think. I'll just give the stuffing to my husband.

I'm feeling super fat today...I put on all my weight in the waist and tummy which is supposed to be the worst kind. My legs and arms aren't that fat but
my tummy is a sorry sight! All I have to do is look at my new lovely stretchmarks and I'm motivated!

Today - 1/2 cup granola & yogurt (this has a lot of calories I noted afterward), nectarine, coffee (1 tbs sugar & milk), 4 baby dill pickles, seasoned clams on french bread (cilantro, wine, canned clams, tiny pat butter, garlic, parm. cheese - thought I'd experiment without fresh clams. Not good. I'm a lousy cook!), 1/2 ounce blue cheese, 2 cups sweet peas.

happy thanksgiving... :D

and mac and cheese is permissible.. just not the kind witht he powdered cheese that comes in the blue box.. you don't have yto go so far as to milk the cow and make the cheese and harvest the wheat to make the pasta... but make it from scratch, so you know what's in it.. and you can make a healthy version of it.

ellie krieger, on the food network, did a healthy mac and cheese recently yhat looked incredible... chefmd has one on their website that's also yummy looking :D

Well, I'd say your on the right track as far as being concious of what you eat and thinking of healthier alternatives and stuff. I heart mac & cheese and I have not had it in so long. Lean cuisine has a mac and cheese you might try, but watch out for the sodium in those premade dinners...its a killer!

and lol@ the leek soup Mal...I once tried the cabbage soup diet...ick! I made a much better version of the cabbage soup a couple of months ago when I decided to add steamer clams and muscles to the mix...yum!

Thanks maleficent! Mmm real mac & cheese sounds really good! I'll be looking into those pictures/recipes soon! Are you following a French sort of plan by the way? I was trying to figure that out.

Hey Iwan naloseit & Kaitie! Thanks so much for dropping by! I might just look into that lean cuisine mac & cheese!

I've actually decided that I'm not up for French cooking...I can't cook at all. It's pathetic. So I think I'm going to snack on really yummy or strong tasting foods that will give that sense of satisfaction...then fill up on vegetables and fruit. I know many people think fruit is bad for weight loss due to the sugar content but I've never been into cutting it out. I figure if it's untampered with (and known as food) it's got to be good for you and something you should eat.

Hope you all have a good day!

I eat lots of fruit and never even considered the calories in it. as long as you stay stay away from the canned packed in syrups, I don't think the calories in the fresh stuff will effect very much.......
