One Step at a Time

Oh wow, what a day  At least for kittens it´s easier to find homes than for horses and/or older cats. I say he looks like an Alfred, but that´s mostly because the dramatic pose in the last pic somehow reminds me of a powerful Discworld wizard who decided he didn´t want to die and would prefer to live outside of time as Death´s man-servant.
About the weight: you had a one-pound drop this Wednesday, I think? So it´s really not strange to not have changed today.

OK. I'll throw in a name. He looks like a Smoky or an Ash or Pete (peat).

Wow, that's a lot of horses to be responsible for! Sam and Jack, and Melody and the feral rescue - you will be one happy, busy woman! :) (Was she actually feral in the sense of roaming free, or is she feral in the sense of being out of touch with trainer expectations?)

Your little kitten is very pretty indeed! Smoky, for a name?

Today's update isn't as big as yesterdays (thankfully haha).

Basically just spent most of the morning/early afternoon helping my grandpa plant our large garden. We managed to plant 8 rows of peas, 3 rows of carrots, and about 70 potatoes. So we'll have a pretty decent sized crop this summer and can't wait for when the peas are ready to be picked. There's also a raspberry bush at the back of the garden so it'll be nice to have fresh raspberries as well. Oh, and there's 2 or 3 rubbarb patches. Plus we're going to plant the greenhouse pretty soon too. So ya, we're going to have plenty of fresh produce this year and I'm excited. I also love gardening and weeding so I'm somewhat glad that that I'm not in work right now so that I'm able to actually take part in the gardening process and have plenty of time to do the weeding and such.

Then the evening was spent working with Sam a bit. It started raining so we just did some basic groundwork in the inside arena. He also decided plastic bags are scary horse eating monsters so we had to take some time to just work on that and get him to relax.

But all in all, it's been a pretty chill day. On Monday I'm going to help my aunt paint her fence and some other things and she apparently is willing to pay me for that so that'll be nice and I'll be able to use that to put it towards my unexpected rescue filly since getting her hauled to me is going to cost around $500 - $800 roughly. That's what I get for rescuing one several hours away I guess lol. But it'll be so worth it. Oh! And all the young horses got saved! People pulled together at the last moment to save all of them so that's pretty awesome.

Anyway, so that's today. Kitten is doing well and he even slept with me all night last night and when morning came and he noticed I was awake, he came closer to my face and started purring so I'm pretty happy with how much of a sweatheart he is.

Ya, it's more than I originally planned on lol. And the filly is feral in the sense that she was truly running wild (similar to how mustangs are wild) with 0 human contact. Her first human contact will be her getting caught and hauled this way. Then I get to teach her that humans aren't to be feared and all that other good stuff.

Sounds like you have a really nice community life happening there Ann. I love that you're able to help your grandparents out with the garden and also help out with the painting. I bet they really appreciate having you there.
Sounds like it should be a wonderful harvest. Nothing like eating the food you grow yourself!
That's so great that you hope to run a rescue one day--you sound like the perfect person for it. That's very interesting about training horses--i'm really looking forward to reading about that in the coming months.
So so glad that all those horses ended up being rescued. Just wonderful!

@liza
It's definitely quite nice being here with my grandparents. I'm learning a lot from them and I enjoy helping out so it's pretty good for everyone all around.
And I'll definitely keep you guys in the loop about the training and such since you and others seem interested in it. And it's definitely pretty awesome that all the horses got saved! Very happy that they all manage to live life.

@LaMaria
I'm glad my writing brings you joy. I used to want to be a write (sometimes still do lol) so it's good to know that my writing is enjoyable to read.
Ya, I don't doubt that she'll be terrified. And if all goes well, the little filly will be arriving sometime this week!

As for this weeks update, I've averaged out at 205 - 205.5 lbs. Not bad I think.

Yesterday and today didn't do much since gardening actually made the back of my legs in the thigh area really sore. Like, standing up and sitting down was hard to do lol, never mind trying to ride or walking too much. So yesterday was a pretty chill day with a few stretches to work those muscles a bit. Today was also pretty quiet and worked on more stretches as well as took Sam for a bit of a walk and let him loose in the big outdoor arena so he could burn off some energy there. He really enjoyed being able to run around and it's always a lot of fun to see him enjoying himself.

And the kitten is doing well. My oldest cat, Ivy, can't seem to decide if she wants to play with him or growl at him lol. Tiger on the other hand, follows him around constantly while growling and hissing. Once in a while she swats at him but I just have to look at her or say her name and she backs off. But it's getting better. Either way, I think tomorrow I'm going to post him for free to a good home. I live in a tiny cabin and I don't need 3 cats lol. If I ever move, it's hard enough to find a place to rent that allows 1 cat, never mind 3 haha.

Also, like I mentioned above, that feral filly will be arriving sometime this week as long as things go well. So I'm super excited to meet her and start working with her. I was updated that she's rather underweight so I'm definitely going to be giving her plenty of hay and extra stuff to help her gain weight to where she needs to be. Unfortunately, I'm taking a bit of a hit with her though. While she was cheap enough to rescue, hauling her is going to cost me $1,000 which is definitely a bit of a hit since I don't have a lot of savings and still have a few other things to pay off yet and not having a job makes it a little tighter. But Thankfully things should work out alright in the end and I'll be able to handle it all. Thinking I might try to apply for a job at one the stores that're still open and see if I can manage to get in. Although, if I can't get the hours I need, I'll be better off sticking with EI. So it's an interesting situation to be in. Oh well. Things'll work out, I'm fairly sure of that.

Oh! And final thing is that I'll be going to see Jack on Friday to see how he's doing with his training so that's another exciting thing to go see. But that about wraps up the updates for my weight, exercise, and the things going on with the animals lol.
To date, I currently now have 3 cats (until the little one finds a home), 1 beta fish, and 4 horses (the youngest not coming to live with me till september).

Great pictures of Sam enjoying himself!
Yes, you are a good writer, Ann--i always enjoy reading your diary. Course the pictures help too. I really feel like i get a taste of what your life is like with the horses, your grandparents, the land...
Yes the garden can be quite the workout for the legs--nice that you gave them a bit of a rest and some good stretches.
Your weight sounds great.
Keep at it and say hi to Jack for me :)

Sam is looking great there, running around! I´m not sure you´d even have time to go to work right now, with all that´s going on at home

Ok, so this post may be slightly long and possibly slightly vent-y as a heads up.

Well, you guys know how I took in that little black kitten? Well, turns out he belonged to the barn owners granddaughter. She messaged me through FB and basically started to accuse me of stealing the kitten and saying it was very rude of me to have taken him. I explained the situation to her of how I spoke with the people to tend to the barn as well as the owner and they told me to take him home to take care of him since they didn't want a cat at the barn and he's so young that he's literally fox bait. So anyway, she proceeded to berate me for what I did and claimed they were taking care of him (he was locked up with no litter box, no water, and left over large adult cat food that he would have struggled to eat if he even was able to eat it but if let out, then he could've been snatched up by literally an eagle which we have plenty of or any other creature that decided it wanted a snack).

So ya, that confrontation happened early yesterday morning and I'd planned on riding but I hate arguments and she just continued to accuse me of being a kitten stealer that I actually had a bit of anxiety/panic attack. So thanks to the way I was feeling, I couldn't ride so instead, I worked on cleaning up the pen. I ran into the lady who helps run the barn and told her the situation and she said I did nothing wrong. That girl actually showed up a few minutes later and told the lady how she figured I'd had no right to take the kitten (don't think she realized it was me since her and I have never really interacted at the stables before). Thankfully the lady put her in her place a bit by telling her that she'd witnessed the whole thing of me asking about the kitten and getting in touch with the barn owner about it and all that so I was not in the wrong and whatnot.

But basically, to cut this story a little short, I ended up putting the little guy in a box with water and food and brought him to the stables yesterday evening. I told the girl ahead of time when i would be bringing him. She responded "perfect". I also messaged her when I dropped him off. She responded with a thumbs up. So she knew he was there and yet she didn't meet me there. I proceeded to continue working on cleaning the paddock. I was at the barn till about 9:30 pm or a bit after. She never showed up.

Morning rolls around, kitten is still there. Afternoon comes, kitten is still there. I run into the barn owner and she tells me her granddaughter hasn't been allowed to bring the kitten home. Her dad won't allow it. And the other family member she tried to get to take won't because their dogs kill cats. Thankfully they did leave a bag of small cat food that the kitten can actually eat and continued to use my container for water, but that's all they did. The grandmother/barn owner was left to deal with cleaning up the pee and poop since there's no litter box and he was let loose to wander the tack room.

But ya, kitten is still there. Barn Owner said that her granddaughter has till tomorrow to find a place for that kitten to go. So he's staying at the barn one more night. And if they can't find a home, then they'll give him to me permanently this time. I really hope he ends up at a good home or that I can take him. I literally cried as I left him there for the night. And today when I showed up, he got out of the room and was in the stables but when he heard me, he started meowing and literally ran over to me. He purred as soon as I picked him up and he followed me around everywhere like a little shadow. When I put him back in the room, I left for a few minutes and when I came back, he was sitting in front of the door waiting for me. Breaks my heart to leave him since him and I bonded so quickly. I'm really hoping I'll be able to take him back.

Anyway, so yesterday was a huge drain on me emotionally.

Today has been better. But my shoulders are sore from the 7-8 hours of manure scooping I was doing yesterday and the 3 or 4 hours I was doing again today lol. Also now have blisters on my callasus on my hands so that's fun. But goes to show I've definitely gotten a workout in since my arms and shoulders are feeling the effects. And I'm not even done yet.

Also, today I brought Sam to the farm I live on. That was fun but hes rather unsure about it all. Tomorrow I'm getting up at 3am to go to babysit for the lady and her husband who are heading out to pick up my filly. The filly is about 8 hours away and they want to go in one day to pick her up which is why they're leaving so early. So tomorrow I get to be up early but by evening, I'll have a new filly and I can't wait!

So if you read through all that, I'm impressed. Hope it wasn't too much of a rant, but I needed to get it out since it's been on my mind a lot and I did introduce you guys to the kitten already as well.
Anyway, so here are some pics as usual.

Day 1 of working on the pen cleanup. Also, I did already take out at least 13 wheelbarrows full of manure as well which would equate to a second pile as big as the one you see there and then half of it again.

EYbZk-XUEAAltit
This is the pen today. Got a little over halfway down it. Small hay pile for when the filly arrives tomorrow as well (green pile lol). So after tomorrow, I'm going to work on cleaning all that out which will also help the filly get used to my presence.

Hi ann,
that's really too bad about all that with the kitten! Really sucks that it ended up in a panic attack for you when you were only saving the little guys life! That's really sad about the kitten ending up spending the night alone when you were more than willing to care for him. I hope it works out in a way you feel good about.
I'm glad you feel able to come here and talk about it all. Hope you get a good sleep esp if you have to get up at 3!
Sending you a hug:grouphug:

What a horrible situation! That girl and her relatives sound equally irresponsible.
Sam looking proud and gorgeous though :beating:Wonder what he'll think about the filly; I hope he'll take her under his wing so she'll feel safer.
Our old wannabe-cat-eating dog once found two little abandoned feral kittens. Thankfully he couldn't get to them or he would've killed them but by the time we had them hydrated he realized they were now part of the family and adopted them, carrying them to the sunniest spots to warm up in the morning and snuggling with them as if he'd never done anything else.

@liza @LaMaria
Well, kitten has found a new home I assume. I haven't been contacted so no more need for me worry about him. Still hope he ended up somewhere good though. And thanks for the support, I appreciate it. Definitely was a very hard day so I'm glad I'm able to come here and let it out.

So today was the big day, the new feral filly arrived! :D

I babysat all day which was fine. I got along fairly well with their daughter actually. And eventually, I got the message that they were about to be back in town and soon enough we were at the stables and unloading the filly. It was pretty exciting to see her come off the trailer and prance around the pen a bit. She is scared/worried of humans but that was to be expected. And I plan to spend quite a bit of time out there tomorrow and can't wait to be around her more. I would've stayed out there longer today but it started to rain pretty hard and I needed to feed Sam his supper so I couldn't stay around too long.

Also, I think I'm starting to notice a bit of a difference in how I look with losing weight. I'm not sure where I'm at weight wise at this moment, but when I was about to have a shower today, I just feel like it looked like my stomach has gone down a bit. Maybe it was just a trick of my eyes or something, I'm not sure, but I'm definitely going to take some comparison pics when I reach the 200 mark to see if you guys see a difference so I know if I"m just projecting feeling bigger than I am or not.

Anyway, to finish off todays post, here are some pics of my new filly that I got today when she was unloaded.

Fingers crossed she´ll realized you´re a good egg asap. How exciting about starting to see/feel the difference in weight!

Exciting stuff about the new filly arriving! I'll be interested to read all your adventures with her!
And lovely to see some positive changes with your weight going down :) Looking forward to the before and after pics!
