On my way to 63kgs

Darn right you should be proud when you go to that gym! You have worked hard to get as far as you have on your own! Anyone that see you there will not be thinking "She needs to lose 7kg!". If they think anything, it will be, "Oh..someone else trying to keep fit." But ITA with Muddy that most people at a gym are into their own little world and don't spend time focusing on what others are doing... so chances are they won't think anything at all about you...

Would you work with a trainer, or work out on your own?

The wedding plans sound like a DREAM! It's all very charming and creative.

And January for dress hunting? That gives you HEAPS of time to get to goal and be maintaining. Perfect!

Haven't updated for a few days. Been eating properly and lots of walking but not much else. Don't expect much of a weight loss this week. I think I really need to step up the exercise if I want to continue losing weight. I'm definitely going to join the gym at the beginning of July as it is getting really hot now and only really feel like walking although I've bought an mp3 player and it really makes me walk faster.
I so need to do that - get an MP3 player. I know in the past when I've had one it's helped keep me focused and allowed me to work out longer. As for the heat, I know what you mean. The heat has kept me doing most of my exercise inside lately, though tomorrow The Sweetie and I plan on going for a long walk after the sun starts to go down, light enough to see but dark enough to cut down on the heat. lol

Off to see the place where my son wants to hold his wedding this afternoon :)
Congratulations on your son's upcoming nuptials! I've never been to a wedding! I hope you take lots and lots of pictures!

Got all the family round for lunch today and we're eating traditional Sunday paella but I have bought really lean meat instead of the usual fatty meat that we put into it and will go easy on the oil. I've been making it like that for months now and nobody has noticed the difference. It usually has ribs and chicken with the skin on and about 2 cups of oil but I now make it with chicken breast and fillet pork. Still plenty of calories overall but I eat probably a 1/4 of what I used to.

Mmmm Sounds good! :D I've cut down the fat and cals out of all my dishes too (substituting with lean meat and Splenda, etc) and The Sweetie doesn't seem to notice a difference at all. lol Yay for that!

Hi Muddy, thanks for popping over to my thread :) I can't tell you how happy it makes me to think that anything I say or do can motivate anybody. Deep down I know that people aren't going to look strangly at me at the gym, it's just years worth of insecurities that make me like that.
Wow just got the chance to read through your entire journal and you really are an inspiration! I feel a bit honored that someone as dedicated and good as you helped motivate me to keep going so far. I really appreciate it :)

And definitely take that attitude with you to the gym. When I work out with my trainer or just by myself, anybody I see at the gym - no matter the size - automatically gets respect points. If someone is going to make fun of someone for wanting to take care of their body and make themselves healthier, well that person is someone I have no interest in getting to know. Basically, screw them!

But to be honest, most people at the gym are to self-absorbed in what workout they are doing to pay attention to anybody else, at least in my experience.

Anyways, all this talk of exercise has motivated me to go get mine done today. I'm with you though, I'm going to my gym instead of running/walking outside because it's sooooo hot.

Keep up all the great work! You might not realize it, but knowing of your successes and your hard work to keep it up inspires me to keep up with mine! :)

Hi Rox, I think that it is really expensive to work with a personal trainer but I will need advice off somebody there before I start using the machines. I'm going to go on Monday or Tuesday and get some information.
The good thing about going shopping for wedding outfits in January is that it will keep me from over indulging over the Christmas holidays as I will have to try on clothes soon after. The problem is that we have xmas then new year, then spanish kings day and between xmas and the 18th of Jan we have 6 family birthdays so it will be a bit of a challenge.
I have had long hair for years, far longer than it should be for my age but never wanted to cut it as I didn't want to draw attention to myself, well last week I got my husband who is a hairdresser to cut
it to above my shoulders and I really like it as it makes me look younger. I don't even mind the compliments when before I used to cringe when anybody complimented me as I thought they were just trying to be nice to the fat lady :)

Amazing that you have never been to a wedding before Stacy. I love weddings and am particularly looking forward to this one. I have a lot of family coming over from England who will love it as it is so different from a typical English type of wedding. My sister is a photographer and will take loads of great photos. She's great at getting candid shots with her telephoto lens.
My husband hasn't noticed the difference in the way we eat now except for the fact that he has lost a few kilos and looks much slimmer especially on his stomache and chin. I find that I rarely eat meat now. Probably once or twice a fortnight. We're eating loads of fish now instead which I am loving especially salmon. I'm really starting to appreciate the natural taste of food and don't even want the high calories sauces that I used to pour on everything. Yesterday I had a baked potato with baked beans and scrambled egg and and I enjoyed it so much it tasted like a gourmet feast to me

Yeah, I really would love to go to a wedding. What is even odder is that my grandparents where professional wedding photographers for 40 years (they retired recently)! They got to go to hundreds, if not thousands, of weddings. lol And I still never have been to a real wedding. I hope to someday be married myself, though. At least I can go to my own wedding...I hope. I asked my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years if he ever thought of getting married and he said: "Yeah, but I still want to have fun for a while." ...WTH does that mean? lol Does he think that we won't have fun anymore if we get married? I KNOW he doesn't mean fun with other people because we've lived together for 2 years and the only place he ever goes is to work and home. lol

Hahah I know right? The Sweetie is actually shocked when I tell him that what he just ate had WAY less calories then the way I used to make it. He's notice that he's losing weight though - his face is much thinner than it was, and it's only been 2 months!

This last bit I totally could have typed myself. This is exactly the experience I've had lately. Since eating more healthy it's almost like my taste buds have had their "reset" button pushed! lol I so love the taste of "clean" food now, the fresh tastes of vegetables, fruit, and even whole grains. Everything I eat now seems to have 100% more flavor, even though most of it is stuff that I used to think had "no flavor". lol God help me I actually LOVE eating healthy! I thought this would be a journey of deprivation, extreme willpower, and missing all my "favorite" foods. But I find myself not even wanting most of the junk that I used to find so irresistible. Sticking to the new lifestyle is almost effortless now! I love it!

Just got back from the beach with my husband. I'm a really weak swimmer so I took one of those foam tube thingamies. We swam out to some bouys about 100m out, did exercises with the bouys and then swam back to the beach. We reapeated this 4 of 5 times and then layed and sunbathed for half an hour. Had a great time and exercised at the same time
Going to have steamed salmon and veg for lunch.

eyckmans, i have been quietly reading your journal for a few weeks now. i think you have such a great attitude towards healthy living and are doing great. congratulations on your son's upcoming wedding. things must be crazy busy for you right now with all the planning etc. good luck. and yay for going to the gym. i need to find me a good gym soon. when i move back home. im working in a different country these days.

have a fantastic week. will drop by to say hi often now. :)

Thank you Juni nice to meet you. It took me over 20 years of being overweight to get to this stage and if anything that I write can encourage somebody to do it before they get to my age then I will be delighted. Having this journal helps as I feel I owe it to all the people that cheer me on to be successful.

Just been down to the gym and it's only 40 euros to enroll for 6 months and you get full use of the gym any time of the day. There's a trainer there to access you on the first session and to generally help at other times.
I've got a friend that spends the summers here in Mallorca and she arrived today and said that she would come to the gym with me. I'm so glad as I'm much more likely not to make excuses not to go if I have to take somebody else. Also I won't have to face the embarassment of walking in there on my own. Been a bit lethargic today so I'm looking forward to getting started on the gym.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I have been following your steps :)

Congratulations on the gym! It was such a big hurdle for me....and it took a couple of weeks or three to really swallow it if you know what I mean.
Now I feel I belong there...like its my place and I dont care what people think.

So well done! Looking forward to your next post on how sore you will be! lol

Have a great day!

Yay for joining the gym. You will find it an actual real friendly place, especially with the people that work there. I'm always greeted by my first name and asked how my day is going, and so on. And they are more than ready to help you if you have any questions.

Keep it up! You'll find it very nice to work in there instead of outside in the heat. :)

P.S. I'm jealous with all the wonderful scenery you have around you to go enjoy outside with. I love to workout outside, even in the heat, but it can get pretty boring around here. Gosh it would be so pretty to walk along the beaches. So jealous of you haha :p

I'm sure my nervousness about it is unfounded. I think that people will probably just get on with what they are there for and not take a lot of notice about what I am doing. I just keep getting this horrible feeling in my head that all these super fit people will be laughing at me puffing and sweating but it's probably very far from the truth.
I love to be able to exercise outside as well but it is starting to get too hot to do anything but walk especially as I never can go early in the morning and often can't in the evening and I really want to up the pace a bit now which won't happen unless I go to an air conditioned gym. We usually have pretty mild winters here so I will be able to go outside again all winter.

I forgot to say that I met up with a friend yesterday that I hadn't seen since she was here last summer and she just stood and gawped at me with her mouth open. She said that she didn't recognize me until I got close and that I look 10 years younger. It's nice to see reactions like that from people that you haven't seen for a while. Although people that I see regularly do comment on me looking better I always think that they are just being nice but reactions like that can't be anything but genuine. :D
I'm still not good at taking compliments though. When anybody compliments me I always feel the need to point out that I actually still have quite a big tummy and that my wrinkles are worse. I don't know why I can't just accept the compliments gracefully. I really need to work on that, I think it's a self esteem thing.
I might even hunt out some before and now photos to post. I think I am ready to do it now even though I never imagined my self ever being able to do it.

I'd LOVE to see some before and after photos of you!!!!! I'm sure you look really great, judging from the reactions you're getting!

LOL. I don't look really great but I just looked so bad before that there is a huge difference. :D
I'll take some photos when my daughter brings my camera home.

Something I just read in another thread reminded me that I have had a big bag of mini easter eggs in by bedside cabinet since easter. I was eating one a day and then totally forgot about them. Wow that is progress to actually forget I've got chocolate. Normally they would have gone in one day. :)

HAHAH! That IS progress! I'm like you used to be, usually when there is something chocolate in the house it calls to me like ever hour until I give in or throw it out. lol That's why, at this point in my weight loss, I don't keep anything tempting like that in the house. I'm sure there will be a point when I can have those things in the house again and not be so tempted by it, but I've just not hit that point yet. lol I'm so proud of you for being at that point! You're amazing and you continue to inspire me! :D

Thanks Stacy, but I don't think that anybody would be proud of me for the last couple of days. I have been so lethargic. I had to force myself to walk yesterday after a very lazy day but couldn't get into it and came home after half an hour. I realized that it was because I haven't been sleeping enough. The warmer weather keeps me up later so it was well past 1.30 that I went to bed 3 nights running and up before 8. Last night I went to bed at 11.30 so hope to feel more energetic today. I really need to get started at the gym but can't until Monday or Tuesday.
lol I'm so proud of you for being at that point! You're amazing and you continue to inspire me! :D
