That is so freakin' awesome!!!! You are an amazing, running woman!!!

< insert MAJOR happy dance here >

Thank you all. It gives me such a boost to hear people say that they are proud of me.

I think that the people here are just about the only ones that realize that it is something to get excited about as most of you have been in the same position where even getting up off the couch is an effort.
I know that I would never have believed it doable without these forums let alone actually gone out and done it. Thank you Jay for planting the idea and believing in me and everybody else for standing at the sides cheering me on.
I got out the red carpet and put on my designer dress for my oscar like speech :D

My next goal is 8 kms by the end of September. I like that figure as it is exactly 5 miles and at the speed I run it will take me exactly an hour. Can't believe that I am already upping the goals. This is sooooo freaky.

I love that you know when to celebrate a goal and that even while celebrating such an accomplishment you're already setting your next goal! You, my friend, are awesome! The way you drive yourself to become better and better is nothing short of amazing! I want to be like that!

Stacy, you already are like that!!!!!! You have just been on vacation and lost weight!!!! How awsome is that!!! You worked out in a gym and obviously made great food choices. The only difference between us is that I'm a bit further down the road on my weight loss journey but I am 100% positive that you will soon be where I am.

Awww, thank you, sweetie. :) Your confidence in me means a lot to me!

You're inspiring me to do the same, really. I want to start running like you. I'll have to take it really slowly because of my recent back problems, but you really make me want to do it too. :) Sometimes you just have to stop and think that, here at the forum, you have the opportunity to positively influence people from all over the world. You positively influence me, all the way over here on the other side of the world. :)

Thanks Jay and you played a big part in it. I wonder how much further this will spread. You got flumesy and me started and now people are reading our threads and wanting to start as well.
No I never ever imagined myself doing it. I really didn't think it was possible until I read about you doing it and then I thought why not try.
Get running girl, I'm right behind you :D

It's amazing to me and wonderful the influence that we all have over each other :D. It's travelling around the world. It started in England with Jay. Then went to Spain and Canada and now USA and who knows where else. We will conquer the world :D
Just do as much as you can without injuring yourself. As soon as you feel a twinge then stop and build up slowly day by day. Now that's how it should be :D but the reality is that it is so addictive that I am lucky that I haven't injured myself as sometimes I have pushed myself a bit harder than might be good for me. :D

Jay's the reason I started running as well. She just made it seem so doable! And even easy!

Oh my gosh, people! You make me want to cry. All this awesome inspiration flying around up in here! :)

Whoot!

I really wish I could run. I think I'm probably too big though, probably put too much strain on my joints and bones at my current weight. I wonder at what weight is a bit too dangerous to try and run at and what weight would be safer for my body to run at.

Stacy, I started walking first and gradually got further and faster and then started walking up stairs increasing that everytime I did it. It was after months of this that I got around to trying running and even then only did a minute or less at a time. My problem was my heart feeling as if it was going to burst out of my chest which frightened me a bit but that stopped happening reasonably quickly. It's amazing how a body that is used to doing virtually nothing can get quite fit even at my age. I think at the early stages you need to learn to read your body and stop when it tells you to. I really don't think that you should run until your weight has gone down a bit more because if you injure yourself it will be difficult to do any exercise at all.
You have got running to look forward to. :D

Thanks for the great advice! I'm totally on the right track then - I'm walking a lot and I keep upping the speed and duration of my walks. I also do step aerobics which will probably help strengthen my legs and build endurance. So it sounds like I'm on the right path. I'll just keep slowly upping my speed until I can run! I can't wait! Like I wrote in my journal I've been dreaming of being a runner for as long as I can remember, the fact that I'm actually going to some day reach that goal is really mind blowing! I can't wait!!

Just a few weeks ago it wouldn't even have occured to me that it was something that I could do and even less that I would love it. I'm still nervous about injuring myself as it would completely disrupt my exercising and therefore my healthy lifestyle. I also have occasional rest days to let my legs recuperate a bit. You could ask your Drs advice but I don't think that I would have risked it until I was a bit lighter as running puts a lot of pressure on the knees.
PS I hate to put you off as you are so enthusiastic but it will be so great the day that you write here that you have run.

Oh without a doubt! It will be awesome! And no, you're not putting me off, you're just giving me some good words of caution. You're totally right, it's better to be safe than sorry. If one injures their knee it can be a life long injury. I definitely don't want to risk it by pushing myself to do something my body isn't ready for. I totally agree that it's best to work up to it. :) I now have a solid goal to shoot for (besides just dropping weight) and I am really looking forward to the day I can get on here and say "I ran!" - even if it's just for a minute! lol

Thanks again for the great advice! *hugs*

37 mins for 5k is fantastic!! Congratualtions! You are doing so wonderfully. And you are sooo close to your goal. Looove this inspiration flying all over the place. :)

Thanks Juni. I hope that things are settling down a bit for you now and that life isn't so stressful :)

Just beaten my record again :D. I just ran 5.5km at 8km per hour. :D
I noticed when I came out of the gym that they have made a running track over the road which I will be able to use with my gym card. I only saw it from the car but it looks like the track is made of some sort of material which will take the impact off of the joints when I start to run outside.
I didn't eat well yesterday because of having a bit of a party at my house which lasted all day but back on track today.
