Omega's journey

Hi Dawn

Thanks for popping by.

Just popping in to say that I am still alive and kicking here - just not getting in too often.

My weight isnt really going down much - but not zooming up much either - just wiggling around. It was 9st3.4 today (129.4 pounds) - but we all know all about day to day fluctuations. I am not going to change my ticker weight from the low weight.

I'm still walking 7 miles every morning - mostly on the treadmill but sometimes I go outside for a change. This is less than I was doing but I am hoping to be able to do it at this reduced level into maintenance. It would be wonderful if I could cut it down again - but I will get to my goal weight before I think about that.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Good job Margaret, and great to hear from you. 7 miles is nothing to sneeze at. How long does it take you to complete that?

Wow!!!
Seven miles............that's like 91 laps on our walking track in the Fitness Center at my YMCA. Haven't ever seen anyone there long enough to be going that many laps! LOL
Keep up the great work. You'll get there. We all know how hard it is to lose that last little bit. And if anyone can do it, it is you.

Thanks for popping by so swiftly girls. It really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and loved.

Well I have to admit that when I do it on the treadmill I tend to hop off it at the end of every mile - not to have a rest you understand. I take a swift trip to the toilet or suddenly remember that I need to get something out of the freezer. You know how things are at home - you suddenly want to put the rubbish / recycling / composting out and want to do it when it enters your head..... I cannot take too long a break though because the treadmill resets its statistics after about 2 minutes - so you dive back to it to make sure that it doesnt do that. I think that is the main flaw with the model of treadmill that we got (Tunturi T60).

I do the walking at 4.3 mph though - so I get it done in just about 2 hours.

I never really care too much about the duration though - just getting the distance done. When I do / was doing it outside I used to stop and gossip to people and do a bit of shopping en route so timing has never really been much of an issue.

It might sound a lot to do - but it is a whole lot more relaxed than trying to fit 11 miles into each day.

My treadmill has got damaged on the running belt - (dont know how) - so until it is fixed I am back to walking outside. I am not too pleased about this as I think that there is pretty much no chance of getting it fixed before January and it is pretty cold (although nothing like the kind of weather that I know my friends on this forum regularly face). I felt truly frozen walking outside this morning.

Rod is off work sick with gout. He got a severe attack on Saturday and hasnt been able to walk since. He had such difficulty getting upstairs on Saturday that he went to bed at 9.30pm because he couldnt face the stairs again that night. At least he can manage the stairs with pain now so he is improving.

He accepts that his weight puts a lot of stress on his joints - but he asks me for chocolate. He has just asked again while I type this. Sometimes we know the consequences - but it doesnt make us be able to take control and take appropriate action. We are lucky if we can.

GOUT???? How bloody awful! :( Geez, I give my best wishes for it to be gone, soon!

Sorry about the treadmill--good thing it's not SNOWING where you're at!

Hey Margaret,

I hope H's gout is better soon. Mine suffers from it very irregularly - trigger foods, eg he was once invited to a special tripe club lunch (work, weird I know) and we were going to dinner that night with friends from overseas. When he met us at the hotel they were staying at to walk to the nearby restaurant, he said his foot was a bit sore. By the end of the meal, he could barely walk, his foot/ ankle was sooo swollen it looked deformed, and he was in agonising pain!
Needless to say - no more tripe!!
It is a very debilitating and suddenly strickening condition, so I sympathise.

Sorry 'bout the treadmill. Am off for a walk myself.

Best wishes, Frankie

POOR ROD! I had gout after my first child was born. It attacked my knee, and it was BRUTAL. Oh, the poor guy. I wonder if they could put him on Colchicine to help. He should also avoid tomatoes for a time, as gout is from a buildup of uric acid, I believe. Apple cider vinegar will also help restore his body to more of an alkaline state, from what I have read.

Sorry to hear about your treadmill! I would be very upset indeed.

So sorry to hear about Rod's gout. :( Hope it gets better soon.

That's too bad about your treadmill as well. Be thankful you don't live where I do, or even someone as determined to walk as you are would probably say, "Forget it!! I'm staying inside where it's warm." :D

Hi Margaret,

I have been away for absoloutly ages - I hope you are doing okay.
I see your weight is still down, so a masive well done for that. Im just totaly stuck but still trying!

Thanks for visiting.

Firstly I would like to wish everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

:party::party::party:

We travelled up to Newcastle after Rod finished work on Christmas Eve. Thus far the weather in my part of England has been much better than is being experienced by many of my friends on this forum. I havent seen any snow yet. I have also had a number of days when I havent had to do a drowned rat impression. Having said that we have had a reasonable amount of rain. The underpass at the big roundabout near where I live (whice allows us to go under the M3 motorway was flooded and it meant crossing the road on the various slip roads. Manageable - but not the safest way of doing things. It probably infuriated a whole load of motorists too - who probably thought that the pedestrians were being churlish.

The treadmill will be out of action for the forseeable future.

From a weightloss perspective - my weight is sitting steadily a few pounds up from my low weight (which I continue to have on my ticker). It isnt racing upwards - but not closing in on my goal weight either. I would have liked to have got there by now - but some things are just a bit hard to accomplish. December is not a good month for weight loss either.....

Despite packing and travelling - I did manage to get my walk done yesterday. I went out for my work today - despite it being Christmas morning.

I have eaten Christmas pudding and 5 chocolates - but no roast potatoes, Christmas cake or mince pies. Therefore - although not an angel - I havent been too bad with my food really.

I have passed on your sympathy to Rod. Fortunately he is ok today - but you never know when an attack will hit. Gout is a very painful medical problem which people tend to associate to older gentlemen. Rod has suffered from it since he was in his twenties. When you can identify trigger foods - it is great because it is simple to avoid foods. He used to love duck and then got so that he knew that he would be unable to walk before he finished eating. It is truly amazing that the crystals can build up in the joints that quickly! Rod was on alopurinol to try to prevent the gout - but he felt that it didnt agree with him. He now takes naproxin - which really just helps him cope with the pain.

Frankie
I am pleased that you are getting back into your walking. It certainly has been of benefit to me - and was of benefit to you last time round.

Anke
it is great to see you popping by.

Cerella
t is great that you have a little more time on your hands - you are always so busy.

Tammy
I have seen the pictures (plus of course your new avatar) and Peyton is truly gorgeous. I know that it is expensive and hard work for you - but you have got a lovely big family there. I bet you are having a lovely christmas with all your children having been excited this morning about Santa having visited. you were neck and neck with me and our weightloss before you fell pregnant. You will lose those baby pounds in no time and then lose what remains of the original problem. Eating healthily, exercising and running around after your children will drop those pounds in no time.

Becky
In some ways my weight is stuuck too. December is not a good time to get things moving.

Thanks for your Christmas wishes. I hope that you are having a great christmas too.

Take care
