Hey Maragret

Your food is so consistant:)That is good for you - I need to take some lessons in that department...Ive been too random lately and caving into stress and just not much time or energy for exercise - Im slowly digging myself out though...I wanna get totally back into things by the next challenege.Slowly but surely!!!

I was wondering about the next challenege and wanted to run something by you...It is ok to say no...LOL...But I was thinking about hte trams and thought it might be cool to be with you and mom2 - Just a thought - however...we are really big weight loss looosers like to be dependant upon in a challenege...

I need to refocus and get it together here and start dropping some numbers...

That is cool about your nephew - I use to play rugby in high school:) and I loved it!!!

Hey Margaret. hope you are having a great monday.

football is great as lond as its not taken too far by the fans. have you seen Green Street? that really put into percpective how people react to games and how all the riots come about. it is quite scary. its good we don't get that where i am. i remember when the football ground was 5 mins from my house (its moved now) every game day our street used to be packed and all we heard all day was the crowd! it was really nice and lively especially when someone scored. i miss those days...

its surprising how many man utd and liverpool fans are around. its the big 4 that get most of the support! i suppose they deserve it lol!

x

Thanks for visiting.

Cerella

I appreciate you offering me a team place for the forthcoming challenge. Back on pages 251 and 252 of Kimberly's journal - she and I agreed to be on the same team for the next challenge. I am sure that you and Mom2 will find a great third person for your team - maybe someone with nice regular weight loss (unlike my horribly skewed loss!) I am sure that you will do great because I know that like me - your exercise is guaranteed.

I have to say that I found it difficult to change my food plan - I had kept to the old one for such a long time. Sometimes things need to be changed about though. I do eat tons of food. I couldnt cope on one of these magazine diets where you have a few low cal meals a day - and that is it. I like to have snacks just about all day long.

I am sorry that you are not getting the time to do as much exercise as you would like. I swear that I am the most tranquil that I have been in a long time - all down to doing as much walking. Exercise really does help with the stress side of life.

You know as well that as long as we manage to be firm with our food and do plenty of exercise - the pounds do come off - maybe not to our preferred schedule - but it does happen.

Angel

I havent seen Green Street. I do however agree that sometimes these things are taken a little far.

It's a shame that the football ground moved away from you. Urban regeneration happens everywhere. Every time I go up to Newcastle I see changes. It gets so that you hardly know your way around your own home town.

A lot of people do support the big teams. My hubby views people that support a team from an area other than their own or somewhere that they have major connections (as hubby has with Newcastle) as being a GSB. I am sure that you realise that the GS stands for glory seeking in this acronym. Not wanting to suggest anything about your brothers of course... Hubby tells his brother and nephew this (they both like Man U). His niece likes Chelsea - so that is ok as it is fairly near here.

Take care

Hey Marg!!

Your family sounds awesome. I love it when you tell stories of the people you love and the places you've been. I just love stories. LOL.

Greek patriotism sounds like it's quite hilarious. I would have loved to have been there, but I'm sure I would have gone home with a significant amount of hearing loss. Haha.

You know what always amazes me about you, that you always, (no matter what) walk at least 5 miles when you exercise. I have very much respect for that. I ran five miles for the first time last night instead of my usual four, and I'm telling you, I could do it everynight only if I LOADED up on carbs beforehand. I had enough stammina for sure, but my body really needs more food if I'm to run that much everynight.

Really Marg, I consider you a great friend already. I just love visiting your journal. You're so determined and dedicated and it's absolutely inspirational to not only me, but others I'm sure.

I hope you're having a wonderful Monday, deary!!

((big hugs))

Morning Margaret!!!
Glad to see/hear that your weekend went well. The sun kept shining here all weekend long allowing the kids, hubby and puppy many opportunities to get out and romp. Of course I had to go to work. So my "sun" time was limited.
And of course as fate would have it the sun is not shining today and they are calling for a snow storm to come in late tonight early tomorrow. BAH!! :cuss:
But before the weather can turn bitter again I plan to get out and walk the block. I just can't stand another day stuck inside!!!
Hey if you and Kimberly are still looking for a 3rd team mate maybe you guys could consider me? I work so much better at these challenges when I am in a group. Knowing that there are others depending on me really keeps me motived.
Even though I did well with the BLS Challenge as soon as it became all individual I noticed that my motivation slacked off.
Please give it some thought.
Well I hope that your day is going well.
I am "off" to figure out my menu. You know the thing that I was telling you about on Saturday.
Well catch ya later.
Ciao :seeya:

Thanks for visiting. I hope that your Monday is going well.

Rae

I love my family a lot.

One difficult thing with being 48 now is that my parents are quite old. My father is 90 and my mother is 85. This means that I have to come to terms with the fact that I may not have them for too many more years. They have outlived their siblings (not to mention quite a lot of my older cousins) plus many of their friends. They are good for their age in that they are still able to look after themselves. They cannot do much that they were able to do when they were younger though. I would like to get to visit them more often than I do - but it is quite difficult with me living 300 miles away from where they live. I do phone them every day. There is much to be said for not moving too far away from your home town. You can sometimes get better career prospects - but there is a price that needs to be paid.

It is quite amazing the stories that come out when we all start gossiping around the forum. We all accrue a lifetime of them. It is just a question of someone saying something that acts as a trigger.

The thing about Greece is that you have to get used to the Greek way of doing things. Once you get used to it - it all makes sense. Some of the most amazing things happen in the villages. I mentioned that the cars looked funny driving around the village. All the roads are very narrow. That is because the rule is that the properties either side of the road have to give a metre to the road. That means that the roads are mostly 2 metres wide. If it is any wider than that - mostly it means that someone has kindly given up some extra of their land. If that is the case - and then they argue with their neighbours or someone that uses the road a lot - they might suddenly decide to put a wall a metre into their side of the road to take back their land.

I have been on a walk which was over 6 miles long every day since 9th July apart from 20th December. I store my long walk info and my daily mileages from my pedometer. My total miles walked over some of that time are:
August..... 295.89
September 335.63
October.... 350.18
November.. 322.76
December.. 301.09
January..... 360.62
February.... 272.14 (until 24th Feb)

I actually put quite a lot of thought into how much walking I should be doing into the future for maintenance - and how I am going to get the remaining weight down and migrate my habits from current to future requirements.

I certainly dont do any running like you do though. I havent even dared try to jog yet!

I am really pleased that you joined the forum because I value your friendship too. You are pretty inspirational yourself - you have done so well. I believe that I am going to make my weight loss dreams come true this time around - but I wish that I had done it twenty years ago. You have not only achieved a very similar amount of weightloss to myself - but you have managed it at such a young age.

Dawn

In all honesty - Kimberly and I have not discussed teams other than on those pages of her diary - you can read them for yourself. I dont even know whether she has remembered the conversation. I was planning on leaving the choice of a third person to her - she puts so much time and energy into the challenges that I will be happy to just fit in. I will have to find out whether she remembers about the conversation! I hope that she hasnt forgotten and arranged to be in a team with someone else!

I hope that you enjoy your walk. It is good that you were able to enjoy the better weather a little over the weekend - but bad timing when that is when you work in such extreme cold temperatures. It is such a shame that you are going to contend with more snowy weather very soon.

I hope that your new approach to food works well for you. Having the ability to eat tons of snacks that build a balanced diet works for me. It means that when I am not out walking - I seem to spend the main of my day constantly nibbling something. Even when I was at my biggest - I used to only eat one proper main meal each day on the evening. My lunch was often sandwiches and other than that it was grazing on snacks. At least now my snacks are nutritionally sound.

Take care
Love

Wow! Those Greeks know how to celebrate! ahaha! I think I would've been afraid of getting shot! :D

As to the challenge, MsGhettoBooty and I have already planned on trying out for the REAL Amazing Race together, so I thought it would be fun if we did it together here. She hasn't been around much, lately, though, so I'm not sure if she will want to. If not, I would be happy to have Bella on my team. :)

I'm happy that your hubby sounds like he is rather keen on going back to Greece this summer. I'm sure you'll work out all the details of the trip in no time.

Hi Kimberly

I thought that you Americans were used to guns. Funnily enough it never even occurred to me that we might get shot - even though the people tended to be drinking while watching the football games. I think that my blase approach was probably engendered by the fact that we were sitting watching and talking to Greek people and it amused them. It was more a case "look now it is Manoli shooting" and laughing. Quite a lot of the young men go hunting on Rhodes. They all handle firearms of course because there is still National Service - so all the young men have to join the army - irrespective of their education level or career possibilities.

I am getting very optimistic about a holiday in Rhodes this summer.

So you are going on the real Amazing Race with MsGhettoBooty! That is a brilliant idea - anything with a decent chance of winning a million dollars (which as I understand it is about half a million pounds) has got to be well worth trying. A share of half a million would be very convenient for many of us. That would certainly bring forward your guest house aspirations.

I am perfectly happy for you to choose the third member of our team - so just let me know who it is. It would be nice for you to have a dry run with MsGhettoBooty - so that makes sense. If she is in the process of moving house she might be too busy though.

I was very impressed by Dawn's performance on the challenge before Christmas when she got zero points one week. It was a major achievement as it was the week she had an operation. She was under doctor's orders not to exercise (and the bonus was exercise that week). As she came out of surgery she had gained quite a few pounds of bruising. I really expected her to get a negative score. She clearly didnt comfort eat at all (either before or after surgery) and managed to get her bruising down to get back to the weight of the previous week. Someone with that kind of determination can be a strong team member. If MsGhettoBooty is not available Dawn is certainly worthy of your consideration.

Naturally - if my survival in a challenge depends upon their performance - I will find myself visiting their diaries to encourage them (and check up on them). They are likely to find themselves on the target end of some nagging if I deem it appropriate. Thankfully people very rarely need to be nagged.

Take care

Marg, it amazes me how much fruit you eat. You must NEVER get sick.

Everytime I read your calculations, I wish there was green here. There's nothing but snow outside so I couldn't walk around the block even if I wanted too. Your journal reminds me that spring is right around the corner and I cannot wait. I will be at the park EVERYDAY.

Hope you're having a good Tuesday, love!!

Hi Rae

I never realised what bad winters so many of you get over there. The worst that I have had this winter is a frosty white icing-sugar dusting first thing in the morning covering everything and making things a little slippery but no snow as such. We do however get possibly more than our fair share of rain over here.

At the first sign of sniffles in this house - we both start taking echinacea. I am sure that helps to fight the germs. Until very recently I ate a lot less fresh fruit - but lots and lots of dry fruit. I actually also take a multivitamin and extra vitamin C as part of my vitamins / supplements. I must admit that I dont get ill very often.

I thought that you Americans were used to guns.

Most people here only use their guns for hunting and as protection. I am pretty sure that it would be illegal for someone to run around firing their gun into the air! That kind of thing might happen in Texas (heehee), but not here in Michigan where we are civilized. ;)

So you are going on the real Amazing Race with MsGhettoBooty!

We are going to apply for the show once we hit our goal weights--but there is certainly no guarantee we'd get on it. I'm sure they receive thousands of applications. Also, if I am pregnant, I highly doubt they'd let me on the show. :)
.

Dawn is certainly worthy of your consideration.
I have no problems with Bella, I just want to make sure Sheryl isn't interested first, just b/c of our AR aspirations. :D

They are likely to find themselves on the target end of some nagging if I deem it appropriate. Thankfully people very rarely need to be nagged.

Don't be nagging me, lady! Or I'll slack off in rebellion. Hahaha :biggrinjester: I think you know by now that I rarely require nagging in the challenge area. I may slack off in the beginning of the week, but I always get my act together, rarely drop exercise or bonus pts. :)

I would expect no less from you. I havent observed how others operate though - and I have no intention of being eliminated through someone else's lack of focus without trying to turn things around. I suspect that you feel the same!

Marg, it amazes me how much fruit you eat. You must NEVER get sick.

No kidding!!!!! I actually went out and bought a case of clementines (and some strawberries and apples :)) after seeing your diary....my mouth started watering just thinking about them! I wish I could get myself to eat that much fruit. I went from eating none about two months ago, to at least eating 2 servings of fruit daily as well as from 0 to at least 4 servings of veggies a day. So I guess I'm making some progress! Looking at diaries like yours pushes me to actually look at WHAT I put in my mouth, not just how much :).

Hi keepitoff83

I love the fruit element to my current food plan. I often think that we forget how much we enjoy fresh fruit - and all the different varieties. Until recently I had totally forgotten about how much I love pears. I am currently quite hooked on comice pears and am leaving other pears aside in the fridge while I eat the comice ones. The next ones that I buy will definitely be comice. I am currently eating gala apples. The great thing about fresh fruit is that if I decide that I really want more than normal - I can have more and it really doesnt have much impact on things. Apart from when I am out walking and going to my keep fit classes - I seem to spend the entire day nibbling.

It certainly sounds like you are making some great improvements to your nutrition. I am sure that like me you used to think that you were eating in a fairly normal healthy way - but I certainly found as I learnt more about nutrition and tried to apply it to my diet that there was definite room for improvement. Even when I was big I ate a fairly repetitive diet. So many of us do. I now eat the same thing every day - and I have calculated it all out so that I get a lot of nutritional benefits from it - and the only real variable is that I slot in a different main meal each day. If I want any extra snacks I have them but I try and make it something healthy.

Take care

Thanks Shannon.

It was very tasty and really cheap. I managed to get 2 courgettes at a bargain price (10 pence) so decided to have something based on that. Hubby was having something else. I always begrudge paying the silly prices for courgettes since we have a plentiful supply all summer long when they grow easily. I normally have loads of courgette meals in the summer and hardly any in the winter.
