Heavy rain in the morning.

NB - late posting diary entry as we have 3 computers which all are linked together and use the same screen/keyboard/mouse. Hubby was making major changes to the computer where my records and Friday's diary page are held. Therefore when I was able to get to the forum I didnt have my records available.

Hi Wishes

Thanks for visiting. I suppose it is..... I used to work with computers and hubby still does. He keeps building new computers from scratch and he gets old ones from the college where he works. The good thing is that if one breaks we can still use one of the others. There is a limit to how many screens make sense on a single desk - so they all link together and use one. I leave him to it and just happily use them to use email and the forums. He quite happily keeps everything working fine.

It was a real nuisance yesterday when I didnt have access to my data. I could see my diary getting behind and couldnt do anything about it.

Best wishes
Margaret

The panic is almost palpable! Do you ever wonder how you're going to replace this huge project of yours once you reach your goal? Obviously, you'll have to invest time and effort into maintaining the weightloss, but your life is going to seem somewhat emptier, isn't it? I guess you'll just have to hang on to a couple of pounds, to keep you busy - for old time's sake :D

Hi there! Popping in for an evening cuppa. :biggrinjester:

Claudia is an off and on gym rat. Depends on her motivation. She said that ealier in the week she just got lazy, and then on Thursday she flew down to Florida to stay with her sister for a week. So that day was hard to get any exercise in.

Glad hubby is still out walking. How has his eating been? Do you think he's lost any weight?

I'm glad you finally had some dry weather Saturday. :hurray:

Thanks for visiting. It is lovely to see you here.

Auburn

I suspect that maintenance is going to be a project in itself for me. I know that I put on weight particularly easily and looking back my weight was last stable when I was rediculously active in my youth. I have a feeling that I am going have to weigh every day and wear a pedometer all the time for ever. The difficult bit is going to be working out how many steps I need to keep my weight stable. I dont think that hanging on to a few pounds is going to be a problem. I have tons of weight still to lose and a huge spare tyre.

Valerie

Nice to see you here again. Exercise is something that I certainly need. I cannot go for speed the way that you do - but I certainly try to make up by going for distance. We need one or the other to make it effective and I know my limitations.

Kimberly

There is always a cuppa here for you.

I suppose that motivation is vital for us all. Part of me would have thought that Claudia's motivation would come from wanting to escape that plateau of hers - but I suppose that she is so light (and she looks light on her photo) so maybe she is not too worried. They always say that the last pounds are the toughest to get off - so that may be the root of her plateau.

It's a shame that Claudia was eliminated - but I have been looking at the data and actually it is quite possible that 12 out of 13 members of the red team will get eliminated. I would not be at all surprised if I am eliminated before the end of the group phase. Both the other teams have several people that have lost quite a bit of weight and maximised points. They subsidise the people lower down the group making the team average higher. This protects the lower members and retains a buffer for the higher members. The red team does not benefit from this high weight loss subsidy and therefore keeps losing members. If all members of the red team do not maximise points - I really see this scenario happening.

I would not be at all surprised if you ended up in it to the very end. I see that you are currently sitting third - but am sure that there are a number of people up there who will be maximising points leaving the differentiator as total weight lost. Obviously The Krinse with ten pound loss in week one has a major lead. She clearly found the benefit to having an exceptionally good Christmas!

Hubby hasnt lost any weight really (or to be more exact he is pretty much where he started - he lost some then put on quite a bit over Christmas and has now taken off just about the surplus over his start weight). I suppose you could say that being good before and after Christmas means that he hasnt put on any weight this year over Christmas.

Hubby likes to eat a decent amount of meat. Today he has suggested that once current stocks are eroded (we bought groceries yesterday) he would like us to eat more fish and less meat. It sounds like a good opportunity to eat more salmon - but I suppose that I ought to vary it a bit. The temptation is always there to eat salmon and hope that the weight goes down. I think that the move towards fish is a good sign.

Thankfully the weather was dry again today (just a misty dampness in the air for 5 to 10 minutes during the afternoon laps and we can ignore that).

Take care

Hey Margaret,

Just thought I would pop in and say hi! :)
From the sounds of it the teams are having a hard time hanging on to members. I would never be able to do the team scenerio, I would probably dissapoint everyone and wouldn't be able to make it ...

Sounds like your doing well. I am happy you are meeting your weight loss goals!

I binged today, but overall, doing ok. I had an awful dream which struck up the binge. But I stopped during the day. I am sure I will gain from the mishap ...but I am not too scared. It won't be easy getting back on track, but I will .. I am now under 290 and I think permanently ..which I am so pysched I have that much will power .. I am going walking tomorrow in 24 degree weather, or close to it ...probably when it is 20 degrees I will go ...

I shall ttylater hun ...
We don't have rain or snow luckily ..just frigid numbers!
ttylater hun
have a great week!

The red team does not benefit from this high weight loss subsidy and therefore keeps losing members.

IMHO, the exercise / bonus points are a bigger factor. Red currently has 2 members who have perfect exercise / bonus points, while Blue and Black each have 4. Those points outweigh the weight points by so much that it's really working to weed people out.

For this coming week, I predict that Red will be out front. All the points are essentially exercise for this week, and everyone still on the Red team has gotten full exercise points both prior weeks. Whereas 4 Blue team members and 2 Black team members haven't, increasing the chances that at least one of them won't for the coming week. And the tradeoff is 5 pounds of loss for 30 minutes of exercise, so not getting the full 300 minutes in is huge.

I agree with Phoebe regarding the challenge. Red team has lost it's 6 lowest scoring members, leaving the remaining 7 highest scorers. The other two teams have more people, and when those total pts are weighted, the lower pt scorers bring down the avg--giving Red Team the advantage this week. When I made up the challenge, I anticipated that a fairly equal number from each team would end up in the individual phase b/c of this. It's all in the odds..lol. Obviously, the team that gets the most exercise in will take 1st place this week. Weight lost is a lesser factor.

Hey, at least Rod's taken off the weight he put on over the holidays. If he keeps up the walking and eats more fish, he'll probably start hitting new lows. Does he know we're all rooting for him here at WLF? If I do manage to buy a B&B, the two of you will have to come visit for a holiday--just make sure it's some time between late May and October...lol. Then you'll have warm weather. It does get hot here in the summer--into the 20s-30sC 95% of the time.

Anyway, I predict the increase in fish eating will no doubt have a positive effect on your weight loss as well. :)

Thanks for visiting.

I am sorry that you have been in binge mode today. We all do it - and it is never pleasant. Even when you are not trying to lose weight - it is just never a pleasant experience.

Well done for stopping during the day. Stopping is a really difficult thing. Try and make sure that someone will keep distracting you for the next day or so as it can be easy to start up again. Be in peoples company or get lots of phone calls. Getting out on that walk not only helps the weight come off (or not go on) and is a great distraction.

Well done for having got permanently under 290. Other people may think of the weight numbers as big (there are people that will always think that way about anyone that isnt anorexic) - but what you need to do is focus on the fact that you know that you are at a healthier weight than you were. Ignore the charts of what your weight should be - just be aware that it would be healthier if it were less than it is. That way you will appreciate the health improvement that comes with getting from say 290 to 285.

Phoebe and Kimberly

You have to understand that I am not too worried about this - it is after all a game and there is a parallel thread that can be joined. I simply am inclined to look at data and see how things are building up.

I agree to a certain extent - getting the maximum exercise and bonus points is vital to having any sort of chance towards the end. Enough other people will maximise these that you are simply saying "eliminate me" if you dont - the only question being how soon you are eliminated. In the first two weeks too many people on the red team spoke of motivation but did not maximise their points.

I suspect that too many people have taken the attitude that goes "other people in the team have dropped points so I can afford to drop a few and not get relegated". It is a short-termist approach. The team included a number of people who have not been in other challenges and one (mom2) has admitted that she had not grasped that the points carried forward to the next week so she happily dropped points in week one when she thought that she was safe.

The fact remains that certainly Wulsk and I did maximise our exercise and bonus points and currently lie 6th and 7th in the bigger picture. Other teams did score a lot more. Three people from the blue team and two people from the black team maximised and had a higher weight loss and lie ahead of us.

After seeing people be eliminated from all teams - I think that many more people across all teams will maximise their points this week. If everyone maximises their points and the average weight loss is the same - the situation is little different to using the current points and eliminating again. If that were to happen - the red and black team would lose players.

Under such a scenario I would expect that the three remaining other team members would work hard to maximise points (I would and I am pretty sure that Wulsk would) - but all that is needed is for one to go AWOL or drop the ball big-time and another three would be eliminated. Such things are not unknown. In the last challenge Elle and Jaxxy disappeared from my team in the final week.

Kimberly

He does indeed know that many of my friends from here are cheering him on. Every so often he reads bits of my diary (I often leave a window open while he is on the computer - and like all of us I think that he gets a little curious about what I say about him). He sometimes finds things to be very amusing. When I say how untidy the house is he says things like "never a truer word said in jest".

He says that he can feel that one of his coats fastens easier than it did - so it certainly appears that walking is having an impact. I am hopeful that he will keep it up. Having said that he gave himself a day off walking yesterday (Sunday) because he said that he could feel from his knee and back that he had done too much in the previous couple of days. He says that he will walk today though.

He will never do as much exercise as I do now - but a little exercise will certainly have an impact. He still has a very sweet tooth. He tucked into an arctic roll yesterday.

I am optimistic that the fish will benefit us both. He is inclined to eat too much meat - but with fish he generally has much the same sized portion that I have. If weight drops off me - you would think that it would drop off him even more so.

I think that the term that you want to use is "WHEN" I buy the B&B - not "IF".

Visiting you sounds a brilliant idea. I have never been to the USA - indeed only once outside of Europe and since Tunisia is on the Med it doesnt really count.

Take care
Love

You would have a lot of fun here, and if I got a b&b in Ludington, you'd have all kinds of great, scenic places to go for walks. We could walk together--and you wouldn't have to slow down for me. :D

That is cute that Rod reads your diary and gets a chuckle out of it. I think my H would be scandelized if he read mine...:smilielol5: I do tell him sometimes, though, of a few funny things that I know he'll appreciate. Thankfully, he doesn't have much curiosity regarding it.

I hope the increased fish has the desired effect for both of you. :) And I believe I detected a new low on Sunday?? Congrats on that!

Hi Margaret,
Thank you for your kind words. I am really pleased with my 3lb, and I would be so delighted to start university at a normal weight.

I have have been on a diet since forver but its never really worked, something has just really clicked this time, and im sure this forum and the amazing support you and others give me is it!

Thank you again!

Thanks for visiting.

Kimberly

I am certain that there would be some brilliant walks there. I am sure that I wouldnt have to slow down for you. You jog!!! I couldnt do that! You would have to slow down for me!

It takes quite a lot to scandalize hubby. He tends to just find things funny.

Sunday did see a new low. Only by a shade - but a new low none the less. It was up today - but that was only to be expected. I always weigh more before walking compared to after. Sunday I did not eat while I was out and got the new low. Today I had a keep fit class and ate my banana before the class (I didnt want to wobble in the aerobics) and I drank quite a bit of water during the class. This is bound to have increased my weight after the walk. Tomorrow morning I have a class too so it is possible that I may not get a truly comparitive weighing before Wednesday.

Valerie

I love the bunny picture.

Fish works really well for me. I keep very comprehensive records and can almost guarantee a lower weight if I eat baked salmon. It happens a very very high proportion of the time. In fact, I have just checked and my weight was down the next day on 14 of the last 15 times that I had salmon.

Becky

I firmly believe that there is every chance of you being of normal weight when you start university if you simply stay focused and keep being good with your food and consistent with exercise. You have seven months between now and then and you have already demonstrated to yourself that you can successfully lose weight. You are looking to lose approximately twice what you have already lost. You can think of yourself as being basically a third of the way there.

Together we can all make our weight loss dreams come true.

Trust me, the jogging does not last long--a minute or two at a time. Then I have to slow down b/c I'm sucking wind. :D I could hang with you for 5 miles or so, but then I think I'd have to stop. Every year in the city where my office is, the community hosts an American Cancer Society Relay for Life to raise money. It is held at one of the middle school tracks, and all the businesses and groups that take part set up tents and sell things to raise money. Anyway, there is supposed to be someone from each business/group walking around the track at all times. The event lasts for 24hrs--from 3pm Friday to 3pm Saturay. There are some people who sign up to be 24hr walkers (they get pledges from people). 24hr walkers get a 15min break each hour, but must walk the rest of the time. You can bank your break minutes and take them at the end if you like--so a total of 18hrs must be spent walking. I am going to try to do that this year--it's in May. You would be great for that, with all the walking you do. Too bad you don't live closer--we could be 24hr walkers together. :D It's a lot of fun. At midnight a local pizza place provides free pizza. In the past I've always signed up to walk during that time. I grab a slice, walk a lap, and then get another piece. I eat it while I walk..haha. Nearly every hour they have some event going on to keep it interesting. Plus they play music so you have something to walk to. At 4am last year, I was cruising around the track, walking to the beat of the music. :biggrinjester: I had a blister from hell the next day, though.

Congrats on the new low! I hope tomorrow brings new lows for both of us.

I'm glad Rod isn't easily scandalized. I guess my bawdy humour might amuse him. :biggrinjester:

Have a great Tuesday! I probably won't be online until 5pm my time tomorrow, as I have a pretty busy day.

Hi Kimberly

That is a great idea having all the business send people on a charity relay like that - I bet it raises loads of money. Anything that means free pizza sounds great - especially to the old me. I used to love pizza - but have pretty much managed to avoid it since February. I used to really love the stuffed crust ones... Walking to music sounds good too. I do walk a lot - but eighteen hours of walking in a day sounds A LOT. I am not sure that I could do that - but it is one heck of a challenge. If I was closer I would certainly give it a go. I tend to walk until I am ready for a rest. I think that you would have to sit down a lot for a couple of days beforehand and a couple of days after. You wouldnt want to go out for much of a walk the next morning. If you do take part - wear a pedometer. In fact - do as I am currently doing (I had problems with my pedometer a couple of weeks ago and it was robbing me) - wear two pedometers. That way you are less likely to get robbed.

I am not surprised that you got blisters. Sadly they are something that often comes with a fair bit of walking. I must admit that I have been suffering more from cracked heels recently. I put on the special cream and bandage them up and then things are not too bad. I think that on Friday I must have twisted my left ankle a little. I was not aware of it happening - but it has been causing a little pain since then. During Friday's keep fit class the teacher said that everyone may feel an exercise that we had just done in their feet and legs the next day. I initially put my ankle down to that - but now think that this is unlikely to be the case. I hope that it sorts itself out soon.

New lows are always most welcome. I hope that you get one. I might have some salmon later in the week to see if I can encourage one. I love new lows. I know that I cannot weigh weekly (I can put on too much weight in a week so not knowing my weight worries me too much) but even if I could - I wouldnt. If you weigh weekly you can only ever hope for one new low per week. If you weigh every day and things are going well (and you weigh with scales that weigh to a tenth of a pound) you can often get a few new lows in a week. I have had 3 new lows in the past 7 days. That is quite a lot of pleasure that you would miss out on. Life is tough enough without depriving yourself of simple pleasures. Obviously that doesnt happen every week - but one thing is for sure - if you would have got a new low weighing weekly - on at least one day during the week you will get a new low.

Edit
Managed to not drink much water or eat my banana at yoga (convinced myself that if I got hungry half way through it would aid the meditation in the final 15 minutes after 1hr15mins of stretches, poses etc) so headed straight for the scales on getting in. OK - I know that it is just a numbers game because it was into the afternoon and I hadnt eaten - but new low on the scales 3 times means that I take it 11st10.8 i.e. 164.8 pounds).

I hope that by the time you read this your busy day has gone well and the less busy part of the day is enjoyable.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Rained a little in the morning and again during the afternoon laps. Hubby did not come out walking because he had been for a walk during the day and got his pedometer up to over 8,000 steps. He rarely gets over that for the day if we do go out for a walk – so we decided not to go out again in the dark, cold, wet evening.

General Data:

Morning walk = 6.3 miles
Round the block = 6 times
Extra exercises = keep fit class
Weight = 11st 11.8lbs (i.e. 165.8 pounds)
Steps = 32,515
Distance = 12.57 miles

3 weetabix, sweetener, 350 ml skimmed milk
