Omega's journey

You are so right about Sam walking on the treadmill. It would do her a world of good.

If she can jog for 12-15 min without stopping, she can do some intervals on the treadmill w/out becoming exhausted. I really try to push myself when I go out walking (most of the time :D ) by jogging for a min or 2 every 5 min or so. It really makes me feel great when I'm done--like I've really worked hard. It actually increases my energy levels.

Walking is also really good for toning the legs and glutious maximus. :D

Have you noticed this happening from all your walking?

I have certainly lost a lot of inches from my legs and indeed a fair bit off my bum.

My thighs although still large visibly shrank - one leg at a time and are much better than my waist (odd at the front - it is in at the sides and sticks out at the front) and tummy. I have surplus pounds all over - but if we could choose where they came off next I would not be choosing my legs at all for a long time!

I really try and step out when I walk and keep to a steady pace. I dont jog (too scared yet I suppose - all sorts of issues including what would happen if I a/ collapsed with a heart attack or b/ broke a leg, couldnt walk and got really fat again) but I do keep the fairly fast steady pace going for quite a few miles at a time.

That's great! Jogging isn't necessary. I didn't do it for ages b/c i was afraid of injury, too. Also, not having health insurance scares me. By the time the weather gets better and I start walking again, I'll have HI so that won't be a factor. Also, I should be considerably lighter by then, making the impact on my joints better.

Keep on rollin', Margaret--I know you will. :) :hurray:

I must admit my BMI is too near 30 to feel safe about my situation regarding medical expenses too. A morsel of food can put me the other side of it at the minute.

Thanks Kimberly and Margaret!

I am going to try and incorporate the jogging bursts into the walking session to increase the time Im on the treadmill and burn more calories without getting tired too fast.
My treadmill is a pretty old one which doesnt have too many options, but I figure I dont really need those as Im only using it coz I cant get out of the house much for long walks, and the day still hasnt come when we can control the resistance/incline/etc of the ground we walk on outdoors right? so why should I bother with all that at home!

Margaret, I just want to say I feel so happy whenever I hear from you...and I was really touched by the way you introduced me to Kimberly

Bless you!

Love,
Sam

Hi Sam

I dont have a treadmill at my disposal so all my walking is done outside. On days like today when it has been very cold and wet (the forecasters said there may be snow but there hasnt been yet) an old very basic treadmill sounds a definite step up.

I am more than happy to help you in any way that I can.

I am sure that you and Kimberly will soon be considering each other to be firm friends.

Take care

Hi Angel

It certainly has been cold enough for snow here. It was bitterly cold - almost biting!

So if it snows are you going to run out and play snowballs and burn up some calories or sit and look at winter snow scenes?

I have just spoken to my parents and there is loads of snow in Newcastle.

Take care

You want snow????? I'll fed ex ya some!!! LOL 'Cuz trust me I got plenty!!!! Just look at my avi!

Hi Dawn

You certainly have tons of snow - and a really nice avitar.

My hubby was hoping for snow because he thought that the powers that be might shut the college where he works for the day and he would get an extra day off.

I was just glad that it didnt snow so that there was no problems with my walking. I did keep by blocks walked to 5 which is the minimum that I normally do in the afternoon - because it was cold, wet and dark and I was still walking.

Take care

Hello Margaret~
Yeah we got lots of snow. But they say that it should warm up to 58* on Monday. I say I'll believe it when I see it!
I can understand wanting there to be snow so you could get an extra day off work. But Walmart (I work in one of the distribution centers) doesn't care about snow. You'll be there regardless. In fact last year we had a blizzard and many of the counties around here had snow emergencies. Basically you weren't suppose to be on the road unless it was an emergency. But Walmart didn't care. You showed up for work or else you got wrote up. And a few people didn't come to work and already had so many write-ups that they were let go.
Hard Core.

WOW that is harsh! how can they justify that?

HI

Now no snow comments just how great you are continually doing LOL

Jogging is a huge step and really not for me either i am still walking like you and picking up the pace which to me is just as good as jogging but without damaging my knees legs ankles etc not to mention how much i would be gasping for breath, getting on the treadmil at the gym is different you have no choice but to jog and there is always someone there to pick me up when i fall off (which i am positive will happen soon)

Hope your day is going well

Hi Dawn

It is tough that Walmart take that attitude with you when the authorities say to stay off the roads. The only good thing that you can say is that at least you know where you stand up front. That is better than companies / organisations that pretend to be all fluffy and caring and then suddenly show their teeth after the event.

For most of my working life I was a computer contractor so there was not really a cosy employer / employee relationship going on. It was all very temporary contracts and if you didnt go to work you didnt get paid - so no paid holidays or paid time off sick - and there was no concept of long term security of employment. I am not complaining because we all knew where we stood up front and they paid a premium because our relationship was different.

I have known people believe that they had a cosy employer / employee relationship who were bitterly disappointed when their employer failed to show them the same loyalty that they had recieved from staff for many years.

I imagine that you will be looking forward to Monday's weather - even if it isnt as picturesque.

Take care

Hey there Margaret!! hope your New years was a good one!! I see you got on a good Challenge team too, YIPPY, but you know I'm scared to death, as I know how quickly you lose weight, MAN I'm going to need to step it up a tad just to stay up with you. LOL LOL your a true inspiration, and I'm so happy your here!! Good luck in your challenge!

Kim

I got loads of visitors while I was replying to Dawn. That's what comes of writing a message while making and then eating a meal all at the same time.

Thanks for visiting

Sarah

We havent got snow either so no need to feel envy of west London yet if it is snow you are after. As far a jogging goes - I wouldnt even dare jog if I was at a gym crowded with people. You are braver than me!

Angel

I used to like to play in the snow when I was your age. It will certainly burn tons of calories. I seem to remember that the trick was to aim a snowball at a good-looking young man - not that I would ever lead you astray or anything!

Kim

Good luck in the challenge too! I think that we are both on good challenge teams. The thing that you forget is that I have had generally good overall weight loss - but my weight loss is always very skewed. Every month I enter the 2 pound a week challenge - and every month I explain that I consider my results to be a success even though I have only lost as much as two pounds on one stellar week and the other weeks I have lost a small amount, stayed static or had my weight go up. This is despite maintaining my food control and exercise across the whole month - not having good days / weeks and bad days / weeks like most people would imagine. In the last challenge I had a week when my weight stayed the same and a week when it went up!

The thing is - I really wouldnt be at all surprised if my weight goes up next week. It has been drifting up by a fifth of a pound a day most days this week.

It is more than possible that I will be one of the people kicked out next week if everyone is good with their junk food and exercise.

One of the reasons that I was stunned by my December result is that I lost most of the weight during the week that included Christmas. My weight was static for the 8 days until Christmas Eve. I truly thought that my December weight loss week would not happen or be a gain.

Take care
Love
Margaret
