Omega's journey

At least it was only drizzling out today...lol. Do you have a rain poncho?

I understand how you feel about your walking. I haven't exercised since Saturday due to my cough, and I'm feeling very guilty about it. I think in the back of my head I realize how easy it is to go back to unhealthy habits.

Thank you for visiting me again. I always love seeing you here.

Janice

My weight is still wiggling very much on a par with yours (although obviously I have a bigger BMI). I did dip down a couple of days ago but went straight upwards the next day. This often happens. I note from my diary that I am about to start retaining water any day so am wondering whether that is having an impact.

An ancient ricketty treadmill sounds very good to me. I keep thinking around the idea of ditching the spare bed and getting one.

One of the joys of living in England is that we get lots of rain. We get quite a bit of it during all four seasons.

Kimberly

The jacket that I am wearing most of the time is very warm and supposedly waterproof (although has been saturated during some of my walks). I got it when my weight was on the way up in 1990 and it is now quite a lot of sizes too big. For a lot of years it was a lot of sizes too small. I got it for when we were in Finland (Helsinki) when hubby was doing some work with Nokia there.

I also have a storm jacket which is more waterproof but not as warm and is bigger again.

One of the joys of being this size is that I have very few clothes that fit me right. Other things are various sizes of too big. The thing is that I dont want to spend much money on clothes until I get to the size that I want to be. My decision to send any clothes that I could find less than a size 20 to charity shops is one that I have regretted. Thankfully a couple of items slipped through the net and I am wearing those. My size has changed a lot. I am still wearing size 32 nighties for instance.

You were right not to go to the gym if not up to it. From 26th May to 3rd June I did not go out walking at all because I was ill and on antibiotics. Obviously I started it up again immediately I could and got straight back into the swing of things. I even lost a little weight that week.

Despite this knowledge - I am so much happier if I have done at least one decent walk in the day.

Take care

Hi Maraget~
I would be so mad if my instructor were to bring in a sweet treat :drool5: for everyone after I just busted my butt!
Like you I probably would not have been able to resist. :blush5:
Good on you for only having a small slice. :hurray:
And I am glad that the rain as let up for you.
They are saying that we may see a sliver of sun today. I think I might go outside and wait for it! :toetap05: LOL I am soooooo craving some sunlight right now. I think I should live in Florida or somewhere the sun shines regularly.
Have a great day!

Hi Bellaryna

I must admit that I was less than impressed with the yoga teacher. That was my first dietary sin of the holiday season. I am sure that I will weaken many more times!

I had salmon for the main meal and walked a bit extra to try and counteract the damage.

I could understand it if we were doing cookery - but an exercise class!

At least no rain so far today (Wednesday) but frosty all morning - but bright and not as cold as it looked (white always looks very cold).

I think that there is much to be said for living in warmer climes. I keep dropping hints to hubby about Greece - but he doesnt seem keen. We have a lot of friends in one of the 3 sunniest villages on one of the sunniest of the Greek islands.

Take care

You know you just make me salivate :drool5: thinking about all these exotic locals! LOL And then when you start talking about how sunny it is.......oooohhhh I just wanta go!!!! LOL!!
That's it if you end up going on "holiday" I'm coming along!
I pack lite and I don't eat nearly as much as I use to so you won't even know I am there!!! hahaha

Hi Bellaryna

What do you think it does to me. That is where the main of my friends live.

Just go into google and put in Gennadi Rhodes (i.e. the name of the village and island).

Two recent summers we ended up staying 6 months. Hubby claims to be too fond of his job currently and not willing to kiss it goodbye. So I am walking in rainy England instead of wandering round a Greek island.

Not fair!!!

If I did get - I would be more than happy to introduce you to all the locals.

Okay that is it! If you go, I go! Oooooo how exciting that would be! I think I must have some wanderlust in my veins cuz' I am always dreaming of places to go see.
I would walk anywhere you wanted for however long you wanted!!!
I once had a guy at work tell me that all I would ever have to do to get him to do something was bat my eyes and pout. Have you tried this? LOL:smilielol5:

If batting my eyes and pouting still worked with hubby we would be out there now.

Unfortunately hubby seems to have been immune to things like that in more recent years.

We will have to put our walking in the sunshine plans on hold. I will let you know if hubby relents. Then you can bat your own eyes at your hubby.

Oh well! LOL :smilielol5:
At least the sun has finally popped out here. Hopefully before it hides itself away again I will get a chance to go for a walk myself.
But for now everything that needs to be done on the inside of the house is hollering at me.
So I will just pull up all the blinds, put some rockin' music on and get to cleaning!
Catch ya later!
Oh and the batting eyes thing never did work on my hubby either. :biggrinjester:

When hubby was about 22 years old the batting eyes thing worked quite well. Funnily enough he has aged since then.

I have got my main walks for the day in now (just turned 10 miles). I will only go out again if hubby willing to go for a walk when he gets in from work.

Enjoy your walk in the sun (and musical cleaning).

LOL Margaret..

You may have ta get a lil more pervier than batting lashes. :sifone:

HAHAHA! :p

Your logs are just fantastic as usual!

Yer doin' so great w/water..

I'm still stuck between 32 oz - 48 oz per day.. I just can't seem to go any higher..lol

~Whelp, you have a Great & Goal Reaching Wed. Doll!~

Hi Stacy

The water is not easy - but I kind of make myself do it. The only problem is I sometimes am still drinking it late at night and then I need to go to the toilet a couple of times during the night. The trick is to get it finished by about 10pm - but I dont always manage that.

As far as hubby goes - the problem is that we have been together a very long time. Over half his lifetime to be exact (I am a little older than him). The thing is - he can read me like a book. He knows exactly when I am up to something and when some ulterior motives seem to be at play.

As I said before - when hubby was 22 years old - the batting eyes thing worked quite well. The pervier things worked pretty well then too!

I hope that your Wednesday is great and goal reaching too.

Take care

Hi Margaret,

Just stopping by to say hi. And a question, how many hours a day does it take you to do your walk outside? And has your pace varied from when you first started? And is it the same route every day or do you mix it up a bit?

I know I am a bit of a creature of habit and have a couple of walks mapped out that I do, so I am a weee bit boring in that regard. I don't kmow how long my walks are, when hubby has time I will get hime to drive them in the car and see.

Best wishes,
Frankie

Hi Frankie

Well most days are pretty similar. I am in many ways a creature of habit (probably more so than you) and if I find something that works I tend to stick to it. In the morning I have a very regular 6.3 mile route - but twice in the week I change the order of the roads that I go along. Both routes cover the same roads - just the order changes. I occasionally add some extra little bits on - and I may pop down a road to go to a shop or two on the way. I also stop off and go to my keep fit and yoga class en route on those days. The thing that I like about the route is that it takes me past
a/ our local parade of shops where there are banks, post office, chemists, newsagents, bakery, etc
b/ a few local "posh" streets
c/ along the riverside
d/ past some big old houses
e/ near a walled garden
f/ near a couple of parks
g/ near the war memorial
h/ where I have my classes
i/ past some nice churches
j/ some medium sized supermarkets
k/ not far from a very big supermarket
l/ there are a few toilets en route which can be useful at times

Although some people have suggested some other routes for a change - they really do not appeal compared to the route that I have and when I know the mileage it suits me just fine.

If I dont add much extra on or stop and talk to someone - I am normally home about 2 hours and 10 minutes after I left. My general pace has certainly improved since I started in February.

There are definite benefits to sticking to a similar route. I have got to know some people that live or work en route. There are also people that regularly walk dogs, walk or jog there that I often talk to. I think that I have turned into a bit of a local eccentric and quite a lot of people seem to have noticed me walking and losing weight. Two complete strangers stopped me and spoke to me while I was out today.

Later in the day I go out and do however many laps round the crescent where I live and the road that it comes off.

I rarely do less than 5 laps in a few bursts of activity through the afternoon / early evening. I rarely spend less than an hour doing laps - but as I say it is broken up.

If you use a pedometer - once it is all set up and checked you can use it to find out approximately how far you have walked. No use currently - but may be useful for new walks.

Take care
Love

That's awesome that you're getting to meet different people in your neighborhood, Omega. I just met a couple of people in my neighborhood today too that I've never seen before. I'm a bit of a recluse (not a misanthrope or anything, just introverted and content in my own company) so I really don't know my neighbors that well. But when I have my dog with me, they feel compelled to stop me for a chat.

Sometimes it's nice living in the South, where people force you to socialize. :D

Anyway, keep up the great work! You're doing an amazing job, and you're such an inspiration!

LOl@ batting eyelashes. That still works for me if I do it right. :biggrinjester:

Your walking route looks very scenic and interesting. It's cool that people stop to talk to you. When I was walking in better weather, there was one nice lady who frequently walked her dog while I was out walking. Her dog (Alsatian) took a liking to me and Gus and I always had to stop for a quick pet...lol.

Glad to hear hubby went with you around the block twice.

The Greek Isles sound magnificent. I know a few people who have been, and they absolutely loved it. I don't blame you one bit for wanting to go there. Could you take a little trip by yourself? I'd ditch hubby and go without him...lol.

I hope your salmon dinner tonight makes the scale go down tomorrow. Shame on your yoga instructor for bringing in the goodies. She should have brought in a healthy, diet-friendly snack instead. :D

Thanks for visiting and giving me lovely words of encouragement. I really appreciate it.

I like seeing people on my walks that I have got to know. I think that I have got to know most of the postmen in the area because we are all there every day. Also quite a lot of the dogs keep there owners having fairly regular habits.

I must admit that I enjoy people noticing how much weight that I have lost. All these strangers that start speaking to me mention it. I dont hold back. I tell them that I have lost 8 and a half stone. They all seem surprised - I think that anyone can lose that much in a year.

Kellye

Welcome to my diary.

I have long classed myself as being somewhat reclusive too. I think that it stemmed from never knowing quite how someone would react to someone that was of a different order bigger than the vast majority of the population. I had to lose quite a lot of weight before I stopped being morbidly obese.

I was a bit concerned earlier in the year when strangers started speaking to me as I wondered how they were going to be. So often though, people have been so nice. I have had such a lot of nice comments.

Kimberly

I know the thing that is holding hubby back from going to Rhodes - and that is because he is convinced that he would need to go first class or business class to get into the seat. For a number of years we have not been able to get into the seats of cheaper airlines - but the seats on such as Olympic economy were ok. I admit the seat was pretty tight on him the last time that we flew and he has put on weight since then. The last two times we went out - we drove. That has a lot of advantages (no problem with plane seats, generally more civilised, nice drive through France, Switzerland, the Alps, Italy, Greece, 3 nice ferries) but it is quite a lot slower so does not fit into a standard 2 week trip. My initial stance was that the ideal solution was for him to leave a job which does not appreciate his talents and us spend another summer there. I could rent a room really cheaply on a long term basis and be fine. He doesnt want to leave his job. I have said that the ideal solution in that case is for him to lose a bit of weight and he has time before next summer to get back to where he can get into the Olympic economy seats.

He came up with the idea that he fly business class and I go in economy. I am pretty sure that he was joking. I retorted that was a great idea and since we would not be sitting with each other there was no need for me to be on the same plane. I could go out a couple of months earlier and leave a couple of months after him to no disadvantage. He didnt seem to like that idea. He has a fairly old-fashioned notion that we should be together. We have spent comparitively little time apart over the years. He always seemed to want me to go with him on business trips and I used to try to make the time to do so. The stupid thing is that it is one of the few places where I could go by myself as I have such a lot of friends there. I have more friends there than here.

I must admit that I was livid with the yoga instructor. Everyone else in the class is thin - but I have never made any secret of my project. They all know that I am actively trying very hard to lose weight. Heaven knows how many temptations are going to come my way before the month is out. I just hope that the keep fit teacher has more sense at the last class this coming Monday.

Take care
Love
