Nothing tastes as good as fit feels!!

So here it goes.......

As I sit here writing this diary entry I am currently weighing 195 pounds. This is the heaviest I have ever been in my life, and it is not a good feeling. I find myself tiring out easier than before, sweating more from simple tasks, and just having a lack of energy when I get home from work. My clothes don't look so great on me anymore, and I find myself wearing the same 4 pair of pants in rotation because I refuse to buy anymore size 13/14's, lol.

My reasons for seriously beginning my weight loss journey now are two fold. Firstly I want to be healthy, feel better about the way I look and wear those jeans and skirts that have been sitting in my closet for a couple of years.

Secondly, I have decided to be a kidney donor for my brother who has kidney disease and is on dialysis 3 times per week. His nurse has told me I should lose weight before the operation to reduce my risks.

I admit I am a carb addict, (bread, pasta, pie, yummy yummy pie, french fries), and I looove anything with lots of cheese, and looove white wine.

I was very thin in my teen years and constantly tried to gain weight, well I accomplished that goal in my twenties, lol, thus the yo-yo dieting began.
With every diet I would lose weight, go off the diet, and then gain an extra 5-10 pounds.

I have now committed myself to get rid of this extra baggage that is slowing me down and preventing me from helping improve my brother's life!!

I look forward to sharing my journey with this forum, and making improvements in my health daily.

Weight loss goals for 2008:

1st Quarter Goal (3/31/08) (170)
2nd Quarter Goal (6/30/08) (150)
3rd Quarter Goal (09/30/08) (140)
Ultimate Goal )12/31/08) (135) or less!!

I would rate yesterday as a 2 out of 10 as far as effort in my weight loss. I did walk for 1/2 hour, but I didn't eat as clean as I should have.

So today I plan to continue the 1/2 hour walk, drink at least 8 cups of water, and limit my meal portion. I am aiming for a 5/10 in effort today!!

Welcome to the forum, I love the title of your journal. :)

And that's an amazing thing you are doing for your brother.... he's lucky to have you.

So tell me, do you have a plan mapped out with regards to how exactly you are going to go about this?

Thanks Steve.
I admit my plan for weight loss is still a work in progress. I am walking for at least 1/2 hour each day, will do some cardio at the gym 3 x per week (bike, eliptical, treadmill). I am also becoming more concious of what I eat. I am trying to eat less packaged, greasy, starchy foods, and consume more natural foods (fresh veggies, nuts, fruit, whole grains).
That's my plan so far. For me it's not too over the top and is more of a lifestyle change than a diet.

Thanks Steve.

Welcome.

Here's a secret for you.

It will always be a work in progress. ;)

I am walking for at least 1/2 hour each day, will do some cardio at the gym 3 x per week (bike, eliptical, treadmill).

That's a fine start. This will serve as a nice caloric *bank* allowing you to eat more than you otherwise could had you not been doing any cardio whatsoever.

Eventually you might want to consider throwing in a handful of resistance training sessions each week.

But one step at a time.

I am also becoming more concious of what I eat. I am trying to eat less packaged, greasy, starchy foods, and consume more natural foods (fresh veggies, nuts, fruit, whole grains).

For most beginners, this will truly be enough. A simple house-cleaning of the things you put into your mouth is usually enough to reduce energy intake enough to initiate weight loss.

Eventually, you might have to start tracking intake more strictly. When that times comes, you can turn to something like or .

That's my plan so far. For me it's not too over the top and is more of a lifestyle change than a diet.

That's a good outlook. Remember there really is no right or wrong. If you're beyond a beginner stage you eventually have to learn to fly, or you fall out of the nest. But trying to fly to soon will leave you face-planted on the ground. Pace yourself and work on consistency. You will get a LOT of mileage out of consistency.

I give myself a 3.5/10 today for my weight loss effort. Not the best rating, but better than it has been for the past year. I did my 1/2 hour walk before work, did about 20 minutes of stretching before that. I skipped breakfast because I was running late, and ended up eating 4 peices of pizza and a big salad at work. I skipped dinner, but did manage to drink 7 glasses of water. Oh I also had a can of ice tea at lunch and a large coffee with sugar and cream before work, and 2 glasses of wine after work.

I left 2 apples on my kitchen table to take with me for breakfast tomorrow, and have prepared a salad cheese wrap for my lunch.

I really like this journaling proccess, it is helping to keep me accountable for my actions.

Well, when I weighrd myself this morning, the scale showed that I had lost 2 pounds. I'm now afraid to step on the scale again, it may say I'm back up by those 2 pounds...lol

Today was a 3/5 day for me. I walked 1/2 hour to work, 1/2 home from work and another 1/2 hour later. That's the good news. The not so great news is that I went out for drinks tonite and had about 4 beers:angelsad2:

I skipped breakfast again.

Had a coffee and 3 peices of breaded fish, a big salad and 1 & 1/2 cups of baked fries for lunch.

I had a bowl of canned peaches and 3 oatmeal cookies for a late afternoon snack

4 beers in the evening

I also found a work out buddy!!! A teacher in my school will start going to the gym with me 3 x per week.

I think you should give yourself more than 3/5 for losing 2 pounds!

Glad to see you getting a good start on your weight loss. I also love these forums because they keep me accountable for my actions. That's why I decided to come back. I also like your rating system, that's a pretty neat idea that I've never seen before, and I might start doing that :blush5:

Keep up the greatness, and try not to skip so many meals!

Thanks guys for your help and encouragement.

I agree, I need to stop skipping so many meals, because I just binge later because of hunger.

I set up a little work out area in my living room today!! I have free weights, work out mat, and an eliptical machine. My plan is to exercise, while I am watching tv. I'm walking daily and still going to the gym, but I can do some easy moves at home too on those days when I don't want to go to the gym.

I messed up in the eating department this weekend, so I'd rather not write about it, just forget it and continue on my progress.

Tomorrow is Monday and the start of a new week!!

Wishes, a long time member on this site, is doing the same thing for her brother... that's excellent that you'd do that.. and what a great reason to lose some weight :)

Today one of my co-wokers told me "I think you look great the way you are".
That was the nicest thing I felt anyone has said to me in a while. For some reason hearing that seemed to take the pressure of feeling FAT off.

It hasn't detered me from my weight loss goals, but it was really nice to hear. Today I walked to and from work, 1/2 hour each way, I went for a walk on my lunch break 1 hour, I missed breakfast, ate chicken cuury, rice, cucumbers, and water for lunch, and had a large salad for dinner.

It's my "time of the month" so I feel extra tired, have not gone bak to the gym yet, but......

Today was a 7/10 day for me!!!!!

I love getting compliments. they're always so motivating. it was very nice of them to say that, and I'm sure it's true! Keep up the great work.

This week I continued to 'think' about my weight loss journey. I walked to and from work most days. Me and my new workout partner start the gym on Monday!! Lunch has been the biggest meal of my day this week.
Unfortunately today I was so busy all I had was 2 coffee's and a muffin.
I feel sick, I probably won't eat dinner, but I wrote out a meal plan for tomorrow in my diary.:nopity:
