New to forum, this is my diet and goal.

Hey! I finally have a couple minutes to tell you what I thought would be something for you to try related to diet. I mentioned before about the protein shakes and I think those are great for nutrition and low in calories. They are pretty cheap depending on what brand you buy-any protein shake even soy with 20 g or more of protein is just what you need. You can use water or milk or juice to mix it with. What's really easy to grab and cheap is lunch meat and canned veggies. I keep fat free turkey meat and canned green beans as a staple in my house and whenever i feel hungry i just have two slices of turkey with half a can of green beans heated up in the microwave-it's filling, fast, cheap, and low in calories, and it has some carbs along with good, lean protein. You want to try to buy turkey meat and green beans that are low in sodium (sodium causes water retention), but if not you can always rinse of the meat and beans and that helps a lot. So, shakes in the morning and/or lunch, lunch meat and beans for snacks and lunch if you want, and as far as dinner....I would say eat what your mom fixes only eat less of it bc you do need some complex carbs like potatoes or rice...if its pasta or pizza i would opt to eat a very small amount and supplement with some veggies. Anyways, I hope this helps-of course its up to you, everyone is different. Let me know if you need anything!
Caity:)

I think im going to follow Dr Chris Steele's PROVEN Fat Farewell Diet Plan.
It's do able.

I cant have protien shakes. I tried it 3x from the gym and all 3 times it has given me a really bad stomache ache hehe.

Thanks for the help guys :)

Hello Dan and welcome. It's always good to see fellow Britons on this forum. And you've definitely come to the right place for help and advice.

1. We cant afford to buy all the best fresh healthy foods, just have what my mom makes at home. Which is fair enough. It's not fair for mom to have to buy extra food, the whole family isnt on a diet its only me with the problem! Most nights it would be like a curry, pizza, spaghetti bolognaise, chilli.

I'll let you in to a little secret; eating unhealthy food is more expensive than buying fresh veg, fruit, meat and fish. Buying fresh ingredients costs about £20-£30 per week per person. Good quality, home-prepared food is more nutritious and better for you and you'll lose weight more quickly if your body is getting proper nutrition. Also, drinking a minimum of 2 litres of water per day (I drink 3.5) will help you lose weight by preventing water retention. Cutting down on salt also helps prevent water retention.

But being fat stops me from doing alot of things I want to do, like sports, swimming ect. It sounds silly that I wont do things cause I dont like my size but thats the way I am.
I hear you bro! Going to the swimming pool etc is just about the most embarrassing thing you can do if you're overweight. It's difficult, to say the least. I get paranoid about my man boobs and stomach which is why I wear as many clothes as possible and avoid swimming pools at all costs. having said that, I've lost four stone since I've been on this forum and I feel much less self conscious than I did when I was 18 stone. It really is worth the effort.

Anyway mate, I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss. :beerchug:

:) Alrite mate, nice to see a fellow Brit too!

I started the diet today, went fine. Had special K for breakfast, soup with brown bread for lunch and meat for tea. And drank a litre of water.

Thanks for the post mate. So what did you do to lose your weight?

Hi

I have confidence that you will get results with the Dr Chris Steele diet advice. It worked for Charlie and it is working for me. If you check my diary you will see that I have basically let it evolve into something that I pretty much repeat on a day to day basis. I do still go back to that website if I want to check up on something or get inspiration.

The best two things that I have bought this year has been

1. a set of accurate bathroom scales (ours were broken and we needed some extra good ones as many do not go as high as we needed - my husband is over 25 stones).
2. a pedometer. I have been wearing one all the time for quite a long time. My husband has recently started wearing one. I put the pedometer on as I get dressed in the morning and wear it until I go to bed. It lets me see a full picture of the amount of walking that I have done in the day. It is not just the part of the day when you decide to do some exercise that you burn calories - it is all day through. If you make a note of your step count and mileage (I put mine in a spreadsheet) - it challenges you to do more. The British Heart Foundation and various other official bodies recommend that we should all aim to do 10,000 steps a day. I do vastly more than that - but I am in the fortunate position of not working so I can devote more of my day to this project than most people could ever devote. I am using the walking to drive off the weight.

Take care

Best wishes
Margaret

Thanks for the post mate. So what did you do to lose your weight?
Simple really, I count the calories of everything I consume and make sure that I eat around 1200-1700 calories per day. I always eat nutritious, home-made foods like soup, salads, stir-fries and lots of fruit. I also do 40-60 minutes on my exercise bike every day, which I find easy because I watch TV whilst doing it. :D

I've got to the point now where I don't feel hungry all the time. My body has adjusted to the new regime and I feel satisfied eating small meals. Of course, I drink lots of water which helps to subdue the hunger anyway.

I lost the weight pretty quickly as you can see from my diet ticker (The big line in the middle is where I took a six week break lol). The feeling you get from losing the weight is a really great motivating factor.

I wish you the best of luck mate!

xdanx,

Thought I would chime in, not sure if you are or not:)

I am a guy also and can tell you you are on a path to yo-yo at some point in time. Also what you are doing will provide larger numbers in month 1 and smaller numbers beyond that.

Couple of thoughts
1. You need good healthy calories to keep you metabolism up, and to give you energy to hit the gym hard. I used to diet like you, go crazy for a while. I would feel bad sometimes, sometimes dizzy or really tired. But I ignored it becuase I was a tough guy and pushed through it and still worked out. Ultimately my body rebelled and my weight loss slowed dramtically becuase my metabolism was all out of whack.

2. It's great that you realize it's a combo of food and exercise. Doing either by itself will not work nearly as well. Keep it up eventually you will see big changes that will jump up on you quickly.

3. I know you don't want to hear this but the alcohol is a bunch of killer calories. I know you brits love your pints but that is like multiple litres of sugary coke a day. Here's what I would try if I were you. If you get yoru diet straightened out try a complete achohol abstinence for 2 weeks. Just see how it impacts your weight loss. Then introduce some back in but be sure to count the calories in your diet.

Thanks alot for the posts guys. I really see why this forum keeps people motivated cause its helping me alot to keep going.

Been on the diet since monday, its thursday mornin now so congrats to me :)
Been doing the walking everyday too.

The drinking is such a problem for me.

I can cut it out for 2 weeks, but every 2 weeks me and mates go clubbing and ill end up having a few pints on the way and about 8 bottles when I get in the club cause theyre only £1 ea (BARGAIN!) :p

So every 2 weeks theres gona be a problem. Is it gona hurt THAT bad?

Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan

Well done for sticking to the diet and doing the walking. If Charlie could sort himself out with his problem - you can lose your surplus few pounds.

Bottles of beer at £1 each are not a bargain if they prevent you from having the body that you want and deserve.

Most of us enjoy the taste of alcohol - but I think it fair to say that for the majority of us - we drink because of peer group instincts.

Most people when young (believe it or not I can remember that far back) go out drinking in a crowd of the same gender. That is when you are inclined to drink the most. There is an apprehension that if you dont keep up with the crowd you might get teased.

If you were looking for a girlfriend - I bet you would be more impressed with a stranger's appearance and figure than in how much alcohol she was consuming.

Girls look at men in exactly the same light.

If all this cannot focus you into drinking less on that one night in a fortnight then there is always the option of earning the right to have it.

One of my friends has dieted successfully with weight watchers. She wears a pedometer like I do. She likes going out at the weekend and enjoys a few glasses of wine then.

I know that in order to be able to have the wine that she wants she knows that she has to go out and run 5 miles each day - 7 days a week. This allows her to maintain her weight.

You would need to calculate the calories in the beer that you drink and calculate how much exercise translates to that. If you make sure that you do that amount of extra exercise then that should cover the beer.

It seems a shame when you could say to the lads that you have started a fitness regime and have something a lot easier to burn off. Only you know how important the actual consumption of alcohol is to your enjoyment of that night out.

Three pints + eight bottles of beer every two weeks shouldn't be that much of a problem, provided it IS only every two weeks. That's 1500-1800 calories which only amounts to roughly 110 calories per day if you spread it out over the two week period. Like Omega said, you can exercise more to account for the difference.

However, it's best to avoid it completely if you want to lose the weight as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible. Also, you'll enjoy going out with the guys so much more once you get down to your target weight. What is your target weight, incidentally?

Thanks alot for that post Marg, im giving it some thought.
Ideally id like to be like 12 or 13 stone (I dont want to be real skinny)

The thing that will make me feel bad is that Im working hard doing the diet, then when it comes to the weekend I cant even get hammered (which is what I like doing on the weekend).

I know I want to lose the weight, but if Im not even gonna enjoy myself on the weekends it seems as though its just a bit over the top. I dont wana effect my social life and stuff. To be honest - by the way this is REALLY sad; if im not drunk I dont go and have a dance and stuff, but if I am I do. Thats not the reason I do, but I always end up having a way better night if Ive had a drink. I admit thats really sad but thats just the way it as at the moment for me.

Ah what to do, what to do.

Thanks for the replys again guys. Took the dogs for a walk today, about 30mins or a bit more so thats good.

Hi Dan

Well done for walking the dog - it is all good exercise and going to help you get where you want to be.

You say that you like getting hammered - but it sounds more that you like what you have the confidence to do when you are hammered.

It sounds to me that you are using the alcohol as a confidence booster more than anything else. And especially for going dancing and chatting up girls.

Is it that you need to practice talking to girls? They are only people - just like you. There are a million ways that you could do that.

Maybe as you gain confidence you would be able to cut down on the amount of alcohol you consume and ideally not require any - just leave it to the choice of the moment.

There are bonuses in that strategy. If sober you would be able to remember what happened and wouldnt risk not being able to remember her name!!!

Would I be right in saying that once you've had one drink you can't stop until you're drunk?

If that's the case you're showing early signs of alcoholism. I know because I am one. I also can't go out to social events unless I'm under the influence of alcohol. It's very much a confidence thing and - let's face it - getting drunk is far more enjoyable than staying sober, particularly if everyone else is drinking.

But seriously, be careful with the drinking. You might think it's harmless but the damage to your liver and brain is cumulative. Some people have a genetic predisposition and die of liver-related ailments in their early twenties despite feeling like they're in perfectly good health. You might want to consider going to your GP for a simple blood-test which determines your liver function. I'm presently awaiting the results of my latest one lol. :beerchug:

Hey! Good job on the exercise-keep it up! Give yourself come kuddos for keeping up with dieting and exercising-it's always a struggle. I have to agree that the alcohol isn't the fastest way to lose weight, but a drink on the weekend won't set you back too far. Although, you know that it WILL SET YOU BACK. So it's up to you. I've seen a lot of liver cirrhosis and it's not pretty, so really consider how much you torture your liver when you drink until you pass out or just when you drink a lot. But you know that i'm sure. Good luck!

Thanks alot for the quick replys :)

Nah I can talk to people fine, im not a shy guy to be honest. I just like getting drunk now and again. Normally more than once a week but I think im doing well in saying ill only have a drink every 2 weeks. It's just when im in the club or whatever, I WANT to have a drink. Not be drinking water and stuff all night. Come on guys, its nice to have a good drink. I just think completly stopping is a bit OTT for me.

I need to see how much its really stopping me. If its such a big issue maybe I will stop.

Dan

Hi Dan

I am pleased that you have confidence. It means that you can take that concept out of the equation.

We all have times when we eat and drink things that are not 100% focused towards our diet goal - check my diary and see what I ate last Friday and Saturday. I know that a takeaway chicken korma on Friday and vegetable samosas on Saturday lunchtime were not wise choices. But I still weigh less than I did this time last week. I know that I would have weighed less again if I had not had them - but I am human at the end of the day.

If you fancy the beer do as we discussed earlier - set a limit - calculate the calories and then calculate extra exercise. Do the exercise over the fortnight and see how it goes.

It may be that you find the extra exercise no hasstle and decide like my pal that you will do the exercise to enable you to go out drinking every week. Know that it delays you getting to your goal weight - but accept that you deserve the night out as a reward.

Hi guys. Went well again today. Had 2L of water aswell, and walked dogs for about 45min and did some running :)

But had some vienetta ice cream at night =/ Will do an hours walk or so tomorrow.

Hi Dan

Well done. Two litres of water is something that I struggle to get through. I alsmost always get there in the end - but it does take effort.
The walking and running is well worth you doing. I walk such a lot now (although I never run).

I am pleased that you have got into the idea of paying for the vienetta with some extra walking. That is just what we have been talking about. I knew that you could do it!

Aw thanks alot. Today is going well too, but tonight is the rugby, england is playing and am going to town. Hehe I will try not to have so many drinks.

Hi

I am pleased that Saturday went well - apart from the rugby score. If you drowned your sorrow - remember - you can total up the calories and do exercise to cover it.
