New to forum, this is my diet and goal.

What a crappy call it was at rugby aye =[
Still going well on the diet, did the walking ect today. Didnt drink enough water today though!

Well done with the diet and walking.

We all struggle with the water. I fill an old 2 litre pop bottle with water and put it in the fridge at night. I do not pour myself any drinks of diet cola the next day and I have the rule that the water bottle is the only one I can take away from the fridge until the water is all gone. Without that rule I would drink diet cola all day long. I manage to get through it (just) most days.

Some people put a few drops of lemon juice into the water to give it a hint of flavour like some of the expensive bottled water has.

Take care

I think i'm missing something here. Why do you need to drink 2 L of water? I know to drink at least 64 oz., but drinking so much water can imbalance your bodies electrolytes-when you urinate you excrete K (potassium) which takes part in the conduction of your heart. So why try to drink so much water? Is there something I'm missing here?

Hi Caity

There isnt a great deal of difference between 64 ounces and 2 litres. We buy and measure our liquids in litres in England.

64 US fluid ounces is 1.8927 litres. I do not think that the surplus tenth of a litre to what you believe is necessary would do the harm that you imply

oh, well now I didnt even think about that. And no, it wont do anything considering its only a tenth less! Thanks for letting me know!

Still going strong guys. Got a halloween party tonight should be cool.
I went running this mornin at 6am for bout an hour or so, was COLD :)

Well done for staying focused and keeping to the regime. I'll bet you were cold this morning. I didnt go out for my walk until after 9 it was so cold!!!

Enjoy your party and keep a mental note of what calories you have so you can pay for it in exercise later.

Another week down. Going ok guys.

Gona buy some new scales and do some mesurements this week!

Well done for sticking to it for another week. I was sure that you would.

I was really pleased that I got new scales this year. The ones with a digital display are much easier to read accurately. We had limited choice because we had to get ones that go up to big numbers as my husband is cuddly and we wanted to be able to weigh him and I have a tendency to get to be very cuddly myself.

Take lots of measurements as you can add muscle and lose inches in the oddest of places and you want to know what is going on. For me some of the numbers might go upwards and many are going down.

I got the following off this forum somewhere and it is what I follow. I find that I have to get my husband to help me.

These are all the thirteen areas my dietician measures (and the best description of where she does it that I can think of!) in case anyone wants to take measurements. It does help if someone else does it, so you can stand still and upright...but if no one is available, you can do it yourself. Pull the measuring tape snug, but not tight enough to bunch or fold the skin beneath it. Anyway, here are the thirteen areas:

1. Neck (right below chin, where neck starts)

2. Shoulders (at collarbone)

3. Bust (when wearing a bra, to "perk them up" LOL, measure the part sticking out farthest)

4. Bicep (at largest point between shoulder and elbow)

5. Wrist (where it bends when you drop your hand)

6. Ribs (directly under your bust, right where the band of your bra circles your rib cage)

7. Upper Abdomen (largest part between bust and belly button)

8. Waist (measure at your belly button, typically the smallest part of your abdomen)

9. Lower abdomen (largest part between belly button and "girly parts")

10. Hips (largest part of your hips and tush)

11. Thigh (largest part of thigh between foresaid "girly parts" and knee)

12. Calf (largest part between knee and ankle)

13. Ankle (Directly above ankle bone)

Also, when you measure calf, ankle and thigh, you want to have your weight on the leg you are measuring, so do not put your foot up on a chair or something to measure them.

Its really hard to take your own measurements... I've tried and failed LOL!

Since this has clearly been posted by a lady - I would imagine that instead of 3 and 6 you just do chest.

I find that I simply measure waist where I know my waist is. I am so big that my belly button is nowhere near my waist. It is pretty much at my hips.

The main thing is to get a set of places and measure to monitor how they are going.

Thanks Margret :)

I brought some scales today :) ive lost a couple more lb.
I need to get one of the trackers going at the bottom of your messages like you guys :)

Hi Dan

Well done for buying the scales and well done for losing weight.

Congratulations:hurray:

When I set up a ticker I found a sticky that told me what to do. It was easier when I opened a second window so that I could read the instructions one place while following them another.

It will be good to see your weight loss on your signature on every posting.

Take care

It's going so well this week! Been going to gym everyday (sun-mon-tues) and eating well!
I got my sister and her bf to join my gym so I will be going there more, which also = more walking :)

Im weighing myself on sunday ill let you know how much Ive lost.

How is everyone else (involved in this thread) doing :) Especially you Margret :p

Hi Dan

I am so pleased that things are going well for you. :hurray:

And it is a brilliant idea getting your sister and boyfriend involved. It will mean that your gym visits are more enjoyable - and you will want to go more often.

It has the added bonus that it will keep them fit too.

It is always hard to be good with your food too - so well done there too.

Make sure that you post your new weight.

Things are going pretty well for me thanks (understatement - excellent really). During October I lost 12 pounds which was pretty good this far into a long haul project like I have. It is a long hard struggle but at least I am getting there. At the start of the year I was 21 stones - pretty big in anyone's terms for a lady only 5ft 3ins tall. Now I am down to 13 st 4 pounds which (although still fat) is a whole load better. I am the lightest that I have been in the past 20 years and less than 2/3 of my size at the start of the year. I got ill in my mid 20s and suddenly put on a lot of weight then - and I never managed to get rid of it.

I am going to be splurging a little bit this weekend as I am going away for a few days and going to a family party on Saturday. My parents are getting a card from the Queen as they have been married for 65 years (it is like how people get cards when they have their 100th birthday). Anyway I dont expect to lose any weight this week.

Take care

woah thats some serious weight loss!! your at a similar weight that i was at 6 months ago, and since then im down to about 150. so your on the home stretch! your in the hundreds, keep going gal :)

Not going well this week guys. Havnt lost a single lb. I went drinking a couple of times and have eaten alot of crap. Im disgusted with myself...

I cant seem to stay away from the drinking and eating crap 24/7 its doing my head in. I dont wana go out clubbing if I cant have a good drink, and if I dont go to alot of partys because I dont want to eat/drink crap, I will feel like im living/working for nothing because Ill never be having a good time.

I have a question.

I watched a fat doctor program, and they reduce peoples stomache sizes to the size of an egg so they cant eat much.

IF I was to eat the same as this bloke has to now, which is like cereal with protien in the morning, protien bar for lunch, and small can of beans for tea and stuck to it is that appropriate? Or because my stomache is larger do I have/need to have more?

It is really annoying me that I cant stick to one solid diet. I dont have a clue what to do properly, and I think if I want to lose weight I have to cut going to partys/clubbing. But thats gona make me miserable.

I really need some advice/help :(

Thanks,

Dan.

Hi Dan

I cannot answer your question - because I do not have that kind of special medical knowledge.

It may be worth you posing it on "the harsh truth" as there are a few very knowledgeable people look out for questions there - and they may be able to answer for you. I dont think that they would spot the question as it is in your diary.

I can however make a couple of comments about what you have written.

Dont be disgusted with yourself. We are all human. We have some good days, some good weeks, some bad days and some bad weeks. Learn to forgive yourself and look for the positive aspects of the situation - it is kinder, healthier and more constructive.

So you havent lost a single pound. I notice that you do not say that you have gained. Think how much lighter you would weigh if you could say that for every week in the last couple of years.

I think that there are two areas that you are lumping together. Drinking alcohol and eating "crap".

We have already discussed the drinking alcohol side of things and you concluded that you would plan on having so much alcohol in a planned way every so often and you would increase your exercise levels to basically balance out that amount of calories. Have you been doing that - or has the exercise aspect of it fallen by the wayside?

Then there is the eating crap. I think that you need to look into why you are doing this. What you eat, when you eat it and why.

Do you eat this crap in addition to healthy food?

Is it crap food that you really enjoy and suddenly crave?

Only you know the answers - and they will indicate a coping mechanism that you could use to get by.

Maybe like the alcohol you need to cut back and balance with diet.
Is it social eating where you could steer friends towards another course of action?

Let me know - and I will give you my spin on what you could try.

You should be able to incorporate some sort of enjoyable social life into your project - but unfortunately I dont think that there is a magic wand solution whereby you can eat crap and party continually. I think that an acceptable balance involving some hard work is probably going to be involved in the solution.

edit - ESSAY ALERT!!!

sounds liek what ever diet plan your on isnt working. hmmm i dont know about what your trying but this is the way it works for me...

i kinda lost weight as an accident, i turned vegan which is something i wanted to do for years, finally did it and didnt realise that weight loss wass a by product, ive now dropped from a size 24 to a size 14! now im not saying going vegan will work cos its fucking HARD especially if you dont believe the politics but when im eating i dont think of the food, or the points, or calories or whatever, i think of just food and how it tastes. i dont count nothing, i dont weigh or measure anything. my whole 'diet' is based upon my belief in it, and although people dont go on atkins for politcal reasons i beleive this mentality i have (the belief in something more than eating) can work for others also.

this sounds weird, sorry i cant write so well im dyslexic and find it hard to express things so sorry if this makes no sensce! but i think you really have to trust yourself and the food you eat, and you have to believe in yourself and what your doing is for a greater cuase than simply eating a cake e.g. slimming down, sorting your health out and improving your life. when i try and count calorys it just makes me feel like a pig, and makes me very aware of what im eating, for me this doesnt work cos i dont like to feel bad for eating cos its a natural thing right?

never think that you wont eat anything ever again, cos its bad for your brain body and soul. and its like when your a kid and mum says not to do something so you do it just for the sake of it. this often tripped me up at times...if you wanna go out and have a drink fair play to you. i managed to get clean from drugs and drink around 6 months ago and it took a long time to 'have fun' while out without, but now i cant remember what it was like to go out drunk. i guess you jus gotta train yourself tyo say NO and draw the line, between a few drinnks one weekend, or one drink leading to a week of binges. the same with food or anything.

i still go out, and eat crap sometimes (well not exactly crap like most people eat but vegan crap can be quite fatty, haha) and yeah sometimes have a few drinks. no problem. your human. but you gotta start seeing a 'diet' as permemnant changes to attitue to food and the way you eat drink and live. make small changes, cut down on the drinks bit by bit, or try a new drink that aint so bad for yah. food wise, the same. work on excercise also, but dont strain yourself too much. you wont enjoy it and believe it or not, i used to hate exercsie but due to adding a small bit to each day i now look forward to my morning bike ride to uni.

most importantly - look after your brain. dont stress about stuff, it makes you fat ;) if you make a 'mistake' just learn from it and move on, dont kick yourself. gotta make positive changes for life, not just for a dress size or two.

oh and going to parties and clubbing, if you dont drink or smoke, is bloody good for you. im a dj and most weekends am out, playing or raving often from 10 till gone 6am. its gooood excercise, you hear music you like gets you moving and the social element cheers you up. so get dancing

sorry for the long post, im in one of those ' i think im well clever' moods so if this post is rambling and rubbish then its jus mee needing some sleep.

peace x
