New Here! Wanting to get fit.

Dawn - sorry about another blister. Check and see if you have a Fleet Feet shoe store or another running specialty store. They will check that you have the proper shoes for your feet. In my area they are not anymore expensive for the same shoe at a chain sports store. While you are there, pick up some good wicking socks. Whatever you do, don't wear 100% cotton ones, you are asking for trouble with those. Check out Runner'sWorld.com for great info about shoes etc.

Keep up the good work, but for now, do as suggested above, use the bike or elliptical for a couple of days so your feet can heal, but hit the shoe store with blisters and take your old shoes so they can evaluate you properly.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I took the day off from the gym today - when I woke up the blisters were looking partially healed and I didn't want to ruin it. I wrapped my foot today with some gauze and sports tape to protect them from dirt (I wear these strappy sandal things to work). Tomorrow I will do some elliptical and my arm work out. I'm thinking that saturday I'll probably have to keep up with the elliptical instead of the treadmill too.

I can't afford to buy shoes until next friday without borrowing from our savings (which i am like SO tempted to do lol). I definitely want to get those special socks at least.

Well, like i said this morning was lazy. Breakfast was oatmeal + a piece of watermelon and a vitamin. Lunch will be couscous with a chopped up hotdog and some onion with an apple and baked chips + fiber one bar. Snacks are a peach and a granola bar.

Hope everyone is doing great and thanks again for the advice!

Dinner last night was a lean pocket with some couscous, veggies, and a few baked chips. Dessert was skinny cow!

Yesterday after work I went to the New Balance store (everyone told me New Balance was the way to go as far as good running shoes) and hemmed and hawed between 2 pairs for awhile. They had a really comfortable pair of shoes that were wayyy expensive...130$!! They also had a pair that was on sale, they were marked down to 50$ from 80$. I ended up purchasing the cheaper pair with some synthetic socks. The guy who was helping me at the store seemed...kind of knowledgeable. I bought a pair of 6 1/2s, since I couldn't remember if my shoes at home were 6 1/2s or 7s. Well, i get home and I see that my old Nike's are 7s! I try on the New Balances at home and I feel like they might be a little bit tight. =/ I decided to go to the gym and see how they felt after this morning.

Well, this morning I went to the gym but didnt' want to run for fear of aggravating the healing blisters....so I did the "Arc" trainer, which I've never done before. It felt...much easier. It said I burned the same amount of calories that I do running, but I was no where near as winded and my heart rate was no where near as high, so I actually felt like i didn't do much. The foot pedal things on the arc trainer seemed to be sloped down a little, and my toes were rubbing against the inside of the shoes. I'm not sure if I didn't tie my laces tight enough or what, because when I walk they kinda feel ok....

I think I'll go back to the new balance store and pick up the 7s anyway.

So, exercise was 33 minutes on arc trainer, arm weights and 100 sit ups.

Breakfast this morning was oatmeal + vitamin, lunch is sushi and no idea what dinner is!

I went to the New Balance store again this morning and decided to pay the extra money to get the WR1223 shoe for the extra 50$. I tried them on in a size 7 and they felt like heaven, so i figured I'd spend the extra money. I'm going to give some running a try tomorrow - I might run a mile and then elliptical for the remainder of an hour to try out the shoes.

Lunch was sooo good. Spicy crab roll, mmmmm.

Well, I have some great news. Today I managed to convince chris to join the gym with me!!

I'm actually really excited for him because i know how much better I feel now that I go regularly. The lady who signed me up agreed to only sign him up for 14 months, which is the time that's left on my contract. Of course nothing is set in stone until we actually get there and sign up, but I am so excited that we are going to go.

I'll probably still do my cardio in the morning and then go to the gym with him 3x a week to do weight training. :D

After work yesterday chris and I went to the gym and he signed up!!

I am SO happy. He did some dumbell weight lifting and showed me some workouts I can do. Then I suggested the elliptical (he has bad knees) and we did 20 minutes of that together! It's been a long time since I've done the elliptical and I was surprised at how little effort it took. I barely broke out a sweat in the 20 minutes - Chris was sweating like crazy though!

I think we're going to go tomorrow together.

Dinner last night was a lean pocket with veggies and some chicken rice and a few baked chips. Dessert was of course skinny cow.

This morning it was time to test out the new shoes - so i went to the gym and ran my 5 miles (time - 59.10 minutes with 3.5 incline). My feet felt fabulous! I love love love my new shoes. The new synthetic socks helped too I think!

It was very hard to finish the 5 miles today lol. I was dying, but i did it!

I didn't have much for breakfast, 1/2 a fiber one bar to just keep me going - I grocery shopped earlier than usual today and I'll eat lunch at around 12:30.

Lunch will probably be a low fat hot dog with a fruit salad and some baked chips.

Tonight we are going to our friend John's house to watch the UFC fight and they want to order a pizza. I'll most likely eat dinner at the usual time and bring some popcorn or something to snack on. I'll be good!

Dinner last night was a lean cuisine ravioli meal, I made couscous and garlic herbed broccoli & carrots to go along with it. Dessert was a healthy choice sorbet bar.

We did go to our friends to watch the fight but I had a headache so I had chris bring me home early. i didn't snack at all, so I was happy about that!

This morning I had raisin/walnut/date oatmeal with a multivitamin. We are going to the gym this afternoon so chris can weight lift and perhaps I can talk him into doing 20 minutes or so of cardio.

Lunch will be a low fat hotdog with a fruit salad, a little couscous and some baked chips. Snacks will be cherries, a peach, and a fiber one bar.

I think for dinner I'm going to shake n bake chicken breasts. :)

Last night i had a chicken breast (boneless/skinless) with shake n bake, veggies, and a little couscous. Dessert was skinny cow.

We did end up at the gym yesterday when chris woke up, and we did arm weights. He showed me a lot of new things I could do and it was fun! I'm sore this morning but it's definitely a good sore, not the "omg i can barely lift my arms" sore. We did maybe 15 minutes together on exercise bikes too (he hates cardio, so I take what i can get from him).

This morning I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2 miles in 23.10 minutes and then I walked out til 30 minutes was up. I did some lunges and 100 situps too.

Breakfast was a low fat multi grain waffle with a little peanut butter/jam on top and a bowl of watermelon and cantaloupe with a multivitamin. Lunch today will be a lean pocket with an apple, baked chips and a fiber one bar. Snacks are a peach, some cherries, and a yogurt granola bar.

Chris's mom cooks tonight and we are having steak, so I'm going to try to be very good. I'm not sure if i'll make it to the gym tomorrow morning because i have to pick my dad up from the airport at 10:45 pm (thats if the plane is on time) and that's way late for me (i'm usually in bed by 9). I might try to take the day off from work.

We are planning to go to the gym together again tomorrow so I suppose if i don't make it in the AM i can do some cardio when we go together.

Hey Dawn! You are doing some amaaazing work in the gym!! :hurray: I'm so impressed. And inspired :)

~Kristi

Hi Kristi! Thanks for coming by!

Dinner last night was very very bad. I had a lot of steak and mac n cheese...and a few olives in oil with garlic...and a few pieces of fresh mozzerella....mmmmm.

This morning I woke up late and made it to the gym to do my cardio. 30 minutes, I did the 2 miles in just under 23 minutes and walked out the rest.

Breakfast was a low fat grain waffle with a little peanut butter and jelly and a bowl of fruit. Lunch was 3/4 of a shake n baked chicken breast with couscous, an apple and some baked chips. Snack was a peach and some chex mix.

Im hoping to make it to the gym tonight with chris, but he is really sore today from sunday, so we may not make it.

Dinner will probably be a lean pocket or something.

Dawn - you are doing amazing. So cool that Chris decided to join you at the gym. Maybe he was afraid you'd start looking at some other guys. LOL It's awesome you can WO together.

how's the weight coming or are you not tracking that anymore? From your ticker it looks like you are holding steady which is good.

Your dedication to getting to the gym early in the morning is very inspiring. I'm a night-goer right now. I guess I'm just having issues with getting up in the morning... Your doing great, and now you have a partner to go lift weights with :)

-Sam

Hi BDM and Sammy! BDM, i am still tracking my weight, but it hasn't changed...like at all. it fluctuates a pound or so a day, so I dont bother updating the ticker. I'm not sure i'll lose anymore at all =(, but I'm comfortable with what I eat and the amount of working out I do, so I guess I'll just give it time. I'm not at the point where I want to workout more/eat less just yet.

I can't believe i forgot to update yesterday, thats the first time...ever, I think!

Well, I'll just start with yesterday since with my poor memory sucks - if I can remember anything about Tuesday I'll add it!

I've ran in the morning every day this week. I have been thinking about changing the running routine to 6x a week, 2 miles 5 days and 3 miles on saturday instead of 2 miles 4 days and 5 miles on saturday. The 5 miles is really rough and I think i'd prefer to spread it out. I'm wondering if one day off a week is enough though...

Tuesday we actually did make it to the gym together, I worked out arms and had a good time with Chris. He actually did some cardio, a mile, walked 1/2 and ran 1/2. I was proud of him, he HATES cardio.

Yesterdays eating was alright. Breakfast was a low fat whole grain waffle with a smear of peanut butter and jam and a bowl of watermelon and canteloupe (i eat the same thing every day lol). Lunch was sushi, which was bad as usual (spicy crab roll, mmmmmmmmmm). Dinner was couscous, a chopped up low fat hot dog (45 cals) with ketchup and spicy mustard and also some broccoli and carrots. I made hamburger helper for chris and one of his friends and ended up eating a biscuit which was not so great, but w/e. I also had a skinny cow for dessert.

Yesterday and today I was brave enough to try the newer treadmills at the gym. They have built in fans and they are soooo nice. I also decided that watching tv shows on my zune actually is more interesting than music, so I've been watching/listening to Top Chef as I run lol.

My 2 mile time this morning was something like 23 minutes and 30 seconds. I did a full 30 minutes on the treadmill though, walked out at 3.7 with a 5.0 incline. I also did 100 crunches.

Breakfast was instant oatmeal, fruit and vitamin. Lunch is lean pocket, apple, baked chips, and fiber one bar. Snacks are a nectarine and another apple and a granola bar.

Dinner is sushi with my dad, but I behave better at the restaurant we go to. I haven't been brave enough to try brown rice yet, maybe tonight I'll give it a shot.

Tonight I am going to the gym with Chris after dinner, I'm excited!

Well, my dad canceled dinner on me, we're going to go tomorrow night instead. I'll probably have some lean cuisine or something instead. =(

Chris and I made it to the gym last night, I did some arm workouts with dumbells and man, it was haaard. I did some stairmaster too, but not much - maybe 10 minutes, but omg it was more than enough...i HATE the stairmaster lol.

Dinner was weird, chris ordered chinese food and I had 1 piece of honey garlic breaded chicken (bad) and one beef teriyaki skewer (bad). I also had couscous, a chopped up low fat hot dog, and edamame. A strange meal to say the least! Skinny cow was dessert.

This morning did not get off to a good start. I thought I was going to get a work bonus with this weeks payroll but it wasn't there when I woke up =(. Then, I transferred some funds from my checking to my savings since my payroll was in..but for some reason the debit posted before the payroll credit (even though the payroll was there under my current and available balances this morning) and it showed a negative balance in my account transactions. I called and the lady didn't really sound like she knew what she was talking about - at first she told me that even though my payroll is deposited and shows as available at midnight its not REALLY available until 7:30 am - then she backtracked and said that as long as they are listed under the same date that credits come before debits and I'm fine. I guess I'll see. Then I went to the gym and forgot my towel so I drove home to get it. Then I weighed myself and the scale was up. =(

OH WELL!

I did 30 minutes of treadmill this morning, my 2 miles was in under 23 minutes and I walked out the rest as usual at 3.8 with 5.0 incline. I only actually run for 20 minutes, i wonder if that is enough? I also did 100 crunches.

This week is my first week doing my running 6 days. Tomorrow I'm going to go to the gym with chris and run 3 miles and do workouts with him. He gets up much later than I do though, so I'll probably be annoyed that we won't make it to the gym until like 10 lol. Usually on saturdays I'm there at 8 (when they open).

Breakfast this morning was a kashii honey wheat waffle with a smear of peanut butter and grape jam with a bowl of watermelon and canteloupe + a vitamin. Lunch will be healthy choice minestrone soup, an apple, some baked chips and a fiber one bar. Snacks are a yogurt, a nectarine and another fiber one bar.

Dinner tonight is sushi with my dad (yay). Chris and I were going to go out to eat this weekend but since I didn't get my bonus I'm not sure we'll still go.

Hope everyone is great.

Dawn - you're doing great! I would ignore the weight too. You are probably losing inches though with all the WO's you are doing. Great job.

Hi Dawn! Just checking in on you and hope you had a great weekend. How's everything with the bank? Did it all work out?
