My slimming journey

Enjoy your horror movies. What are they showing? The Sound of Music and Dirty Dancing? The mere thought of having to watch those sends shivers down my spine.

Nothing like a good horror movie -- I hope you had fun! Have you ever tried air-popped popcorn? I just drizzle on a little olive oil and salt. A huge serving is under 250 calories.

Brilliant stats for the year so far. I agree with the others - your summary posting is great...

I also agree that preparing snacks for the horror movies is an excellent move... that is the kind of effort and creates the environment for you to be so very successful.

Its great to see you reaping the rewards of your weight loss by finding yourself with more energy - able to walk and climb to locations with much less effort than would have been the case.

Hey wow!! you are preparing your own snacks to go out!! Kudos to you!
I hope you had a great night!
It was sooo fab and while they were diving into the chocolates and hot dogs and nuts, I stuck to my meat & salad and fruit.

I second what Justina said....kudos to you for making your own snacks! :) That's great! Good luck meeting your goal on Monday! :)
Tx, was hard to watch them eat all these yummy things.

LOL, you crack me up!

Great job, Mands! Keep at it and your goal will be a reality. Watch the sodium in the hot dogs and snacks!
I WISH I could have a hot dog - I can only eat what is on my list of foods with Cohens. Your food is your medicine.

No popcorn allowed - I'm afraid. If its not on the list it ain't going into the mouth.

So kinda pissed off today as I was wanting to reach my 400g goal already and instead I'm on a plateau and weighed an additional 300g this morning. SERIOUSLY!!! I resisted ALL forbidden foods over the horror weekend and I'm plateauing?? AAARGGH!!

Some days it's so frustrating getting on that scale!

Anyway.... weekend was good. Watched The Rite( Love Anthony Hopkins), The Apparition, Insidious, Paranormal Activity 4 - was a fab weekend with great friends.

What is the mini challenge for this week pls?

Maybe it is food weight... try thinking about whether your toilet activity explains it...

Try feeding the stats into fitday and see if you can see a reason for the gain...

I couldnt believe that 2 cups of plain boiled celeriac would send my sodium high on Saturday...
Maybe a plain veg that you had gives an explanation for it...

I hope the scale starts cooperating for you soon. I know that's super frustrating when you're doing all the right things. The scale will catch up eventually. Glad you had a great movie weekend! :)

Stay strong, Mands. Eat right, drink right, add a bit of exercise and it WILL swing in your favor. It's math! :)

OK, I confess I don't know what Cohen's diet is, so I'll look it up to better understand your process.

(BTW, I'm not allowed hot dogs or popcorn either!)

Mands, You'll lose the weight doing Cohen's 100% so don't get on the scales so often!!!! Our weight fluctuates so much & it will do your head in! Good for you sweets being so organised at the week-end. Preparation & planning are so important. You'll get there Mands. You know you can do it & you will xo Cate

Hey Mands - great work on taking your Cohen's safe snaks to the horror-movie party- and your success on resisting all those forbidden foods !! - it takes a lot of will-power to resist with goodies around you - your will & determination are an truly inspiring !

- and don't fret on 300gm( roughly 1/4lb.. ? ) .... I smiled when I read you are frustrated with 300grams... as I have been envying your progress... ;) .... I have been thinking I might check out Cohen's diet myself ( after I read about you 22lbs/6weeks loss- + ~ 3.6lbs/week)... I would give (almost) anything to be able to lose that quickly... ! ( i think I might be able to access Cohen's here in Canada- there's something I read about on-line support - they email lab results/diet etc.)... (am thinkin' about it...)

Hope your plateau ( very small one at that) is over real soon !

All this support from everyone is exactly why I'm on this forum - you guys pick a gal up and get me going again!! All the support is really appreciated!

I feel a tad bit emotional this week as it is one year ago that my baby Cheeky (our chihuahua) passed on to doggy heaven. She was my life....and one of the reasons why I fell of the wagon soooo badly. She was my rock, my strength, my everything and I miss her everyday. For 15 years she was our little girl.....BUT I promised myself that life's punches won't harm my health in any way any more. To get rid of the pain inside of me, we made plans to go for a long walk along the beach today.

So my plateau is over, lost 500g this morning. So I'm 200g from my first mini-goal.

Cate - I have to weigh every morning, I'm obsessed! I feel it keeps me focused.

Omega - Definitely bowl movement related as I struggle with it quite bad.

Jen - I think the scale is getting with the program:)

Don - Cohen's is a great diet for me. I've tried many and this one is the perfect fit!

Maryann - Cohen's is awesome Maryann. My weight loss is slowing down now to about 1 - 2kg a week. But I'll take any loss!

To all the exercise machines out there...what exercise or weight lifting would I have to start with to tighten up my tummy and legs. As I'm losing weight I can see these parts shrinking but it looks a bit "loose" if you know what I mean. Also my chicken wings needs desperate tighten up. So any advice would be appreciated.

My hubby gave me advice but just wanna make sure its the right thing.

hey sweetie, have you tried body-sculpting? I absolutely love it! I used it last time to tone up (when I was down to 200.
I just borrowed a DVD from the library. But you can check out some trailers on youtube/amazon. So you can try before you buy?
I used to do classes before - which was amazing - loved it. Now I don't have that option.

Most important thing is that spot reduction (IE losing more in certain places) isn't necessarily impossible, but really, really hard. The best bet is just to lose weight everywhere. However stronger muscles can do a lot to improve the appearance of fat in certain areas even if it's hard to actually get rid of it. The fat will still be there until your overall body fat drops, but stronger muscles will help neutralize some of the hanging and bulging that fat tends to do.

The chicken wings = triceps exercises (and you should biceps with those for balance)
Tummy = abdominal exercises (hard ones)
Back legs = calves, hamstrings and glutes
Front legs = quadriceps (the elliptical machine works those pretty heavily)

Those are the muscle groups for those areas and you can pretty much look up a ton of exercises online for them that way. The tricep extension is among the easiest exercises to do in my opinion.

I'm sorry for your loss of you puppy. Good job keeping on track during a hard time with the one yr anniversary of her passing. Great loss!

I was MIA yesterday as it was a bad day.....emotionally wise. Relived the day a year ago, when we found my little doggy's body. It was the worst day of my life. She was my companion, my little angel for 15 years. Feel loads better today as I can't allow myself to relive that for more than one day. I'm quite good at locking feelings up. The great thing was that I didn't turn to chocolates to console myself.

Anyway some fab news for today........ I REACHED MY FIRST MINI GOAL of 95kg!!!

I clocked in at 94.5(208lbs)!!! It feels totally awesome and it drives me more for the next goal of 90kg(198lbs)

Thank you for all the advice on the exercising - will definitely check into that.

FANTASTIC, Mands!! Great job! And kudos to you for not caving in to chocolates in your sad times. That's growth!

Great job on reachin your mini goal!! And not giving in to chocolate in an emotional time! That's hard to do and you did it!

Weight today 94.3kg (207lbs). Was movie night last night while I was checking out the new Photoshop to see if it's worth the upgrade. Can't wait for the Oscars which is on tomorrow but I will only be able to download it on Tuesday. I'm a total movie & series freak, so love these award shows. I normally do photo editing on my one screen with a movie on the other screen. Gets me through the hours.

Plans for today, a bit of house cleaning, washing and then chillaxing!!

I totally love this and thought I would share:
